SpeedCEM® PlusThe self-adhesive resin cementSpeedCEM Plus is a self-adhesive, self-curing, resin cement with optional light-curing, offering an ideal combination of performance and user-friendliness.

Not every restoration can be completely and evenly cured with light. Strong self-curing capabilities offer an additional measure of reliability when seating opaque or non-translucent restorations. SpeedCEM Plus produces high bond strength values on zirconium oxide, base metal alloys and on dentine without light activation. This has been confirmed in internal and external studies.

Bluephase Meter IIDental radiometerBluephase Meter II is a precise radiometer for easy verification of curing light intensity.

With the help of the Bluephase Meter II, the light intensity [in mW/cm2] as well as the light power [in mW] can be measured quickly and accurately at any time. Readings are obtained in three simple steps: Measure the diameter of the light probe using the template on the back. Enter the value and illuminate the sensor.

Bluephase Meter II is suitable for all types of curing lights.

An insufficient light cure can have two possible causes:

Light-curing

1. The light intensity emitted by the curing light is inadequate (e.g. because of a technical defect).

Check the light intensity regularly using a reliable measuring device (radiometer) such as a Bluephase Meter II to be sure that you are getting the correct amount of light. As the light intensity is always measured in relation to the light emission window, the diameter of the light guide should first be determined and then entered into the radiometer. If the curing light emits a light intensity of less than 400 mW/cm2, we recommend buying a new one.

2. The initiator system of the filling material Some composites respond to a different wavelength range than the one covered by your curing light. You should make sure that the emission spectrum of your curing light matches the relevant wavelength range of the product you are using. Universal curing lights covering a broad wavelength range (385 – 515nm), such as the Bluephase Style with integrated polywave technology, are especially useful here.

Note: Fillings that are not properly cured may cause postoperative sensitivities. We therefore recommend that you should measure the light intensity of your curing device at least twice a year because you will not be able to see, with the naked eye, if the light intensity of your curing device is too low.

How do you know when dentine is wet enough for bonding?After the etching procedure, the exposed collagen fibres on the dentine surface should be encapsulated by a homogeneous and thin layer of adhesive to achieve a stable bond to the tooth. For this to happen, the tooth surface must not be overly dry. Otherwise, the collagen fibres may collapse. Collagen collapse is a phenomenon that may occur after phosphoric acid etching as the collagen fibres are exposed. The collagen fibres cannot be seen by the naked eye. It is therefore difficult to evaluate if or when the dentine surface has become too dry.

Some adhesives fail to infiltrate over dried collagen fibres properly and this may lead to a significant reduction in bond strength. Adhesives such as Adhese® Universal are based on a combination of water and ethanol as the solvent to restore moisture to collagen fibres that have collapsed because of desiccation.

This type of adhesive is suitable for both wet and dry bonding techniques.

Suitable for direct and indirect restorative applications.

Collagen fibres are in a vertical position if an adequate degree of moisture is present on the dentine surface.

Collagen fibres collapse if the dentine has become excessively dry.

Special propertiesFluoride and its concentration are not the only factors that provide clinical success. Properties such as the homogeneous distribution of its components (i.e. fluoride), depot formation, viscosity, flow and wetting properties, adhesion as well as aesthetics determine the quality of a fluoride varnish.

Homogeneous solutionFluor Protector S contains fluoride in a homogeneous solution, rendering it ready for immediate application. This is in contrast to inhomogeneous preparations which need to be mixed before use. In this case, it is difficult to ensure that the insoluble particles are evenly distributed.

Immediate fluoridation of enamelA homogeneously dissolved fluoride source with 7700 ppm ensures the entire dose of fluoride is available within a very short time. The fluoride concentration amplifies once dried (approx. 4-times higher concentration after setting).

High-Yielding fluoride depotAfter the application of Fluor Protector S, finely distributed calcium fluoride-like particles form on the teeth. During acid attacks, these particles break down into calcium and fluoride. The dense covering layer acts as a depot from which fluoride and calcium are released over an extended period. Consequently, the acids cannot directly attack the teeth.

Low viscosity for complex surfacesThe low viscosity of Fluor Protector S provides optimum flow and wetting properties. In contrast to thick, viscous fluoride varnishes, Fluor Protector S is easy to distribute. Furthermore, it readily flows into complex surface structures and is readily absorbed.
