Global Outreach “Just-In-Time Project Management Presentation” for NYC Visit by Aviation Industry Corporation of China September 10, 2014 Dr. Pan Kao of the PMI Los Angeles Chapter contacted PMINYC to offer an opportunity to meet with a 24-member delegation of the Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC) from Beijing for an exchange of experiences, methodologies and lessons learned from large-scale projects. On short notice over the Sep 7th Sunday afternoon, Suzan Cho, VP for PMINYC Outreach, formed a small, high-performance team of four project management experts: Edward Kleinert, PMP; Lawrence Mantrone, PMP, CSM; Anita Dhir, PMP, and Te Wu, PfMP, PgMP, PMP. This special meeting of the minds took place at Touro College, Graduate School of Business in downtown Manhattan.

On behalf of PMINYC, Suzan extended a warm welcome to the 24-member Chinese AVIC delegation. Suzan was able to give the introduction in Chinese, presenting information on PMI and PMINYC, membership benefits, global connection, and the abundance of resources. Speakers gave their presentations with the aid of an interpreter:

The Business Case & the PM Life Cycle Model (Edward Kleinert, PMP) The PM Framework, Predictive to Adaptive (Larry Mantrone, PMP, CSM) The Value-Added Services of PM and Lessons Learned: Impact of Technology &

Procurement (Anita Dhir, PMP) The Enterprise Project/Program/Portfolio Management & Strategic Business

Q&A and active discussion with the participants lasted past the originally allocated two-hour timeframe. It was achieved in record time with a commitment to quality each step of the way. Special thanks go to Edward for stringing together the professional presentation slides!

PMINYC is very grateful for all the speakers for their generous last minute support to make this possible. We were happy to have this opportunity to share Project Management insights with our special guests from abroad. One more bridge has been built across the global mosaic. This was truly an unforgettable event!

Special Libraries Association (SLA) NYC Conference & Expo September 18, 2014 The Special Libraries Association (SLA) is an international association of library and information services professionals, and SLA-NY is one of the largest chapters. The SLA has identified project management as a core competency of information professionals. During a day of professional development, Mimi Rosenfeld, PMP, PMINYC Program Manager of Outreach Communication, represented PMI and PMINYC in a panel discussion about project management for the information services environment. The panel was organized and introduced by Clara Cabrera, Team Lead at the WilmerHale law firm, with a PM certificate from NYU-SPS. Robert Drzewicki, PMP, Content Information Manager at Gartner and Adjunct Instructor at NYU, moderated the panel discussion. Other panelists were Eric Stedfeld, Project Manager/Systems Analyst at NYU and Mitch Brodsky, Project Manager at the New York Philharmonic. Mimi started off the discussion with an overview of the project management framework. Eric followed with information on the benefits of the project management methodology, along with do’s and don’ts. Mitch gave advice on best practices to ensure success when managing projects. The group then exchanged ideas about challenges and training for project managers. When asked about the most important skill for project managers, Mimi emphasized communication skills, and all the other panelists agreed. SLA-NY will offer a three-part series on project management this fall and is looking for more panelists. If you are interested in sharing your knowledge and experience, Mimi can provide more information. Contact: Mimi Rosenfeld, [email protected]
