SYNOPSIS
Ro+erta 9Bo++ie0 eter and hyllis li'ed in a omforta+le home in =ondon.
Their father was a i'il ser'ant while their mother was a housewife. Their parents
were wonderful and #ind people. They also had a maid to do the house wor#.
7ne day0 two gentlemen ame to the house to see their father. -oon after0
he followed them out. $e was ta#en to prison. $e was aused of +eing a Russian
spy. The hildren did not #now why their father left with the two men +ut their
mother #new. -he #ept it to herself and did not tell the hildren.
-oon0 they had to mo'e to a modest ottage in the *or#shire ountryside.
The ottage was situated near a railway station. The hildren>s life re'ol'ed
around the passing trains0 wor#ers at the station and the town?s people. Their
mother wrote some stories to earn some money to +uy food and for other
neessities. t was hard at /rst to +e poor +ut they soon learned to li'e with the
little they had.
They learned not to steal oal from the railway station e'en if they ha'e so
little oal to #eep warm. Their life was full of ad'entures. @or instane0 they
managed to stop a train when a landslide o'ered the tra#s. They found the
in8ured +oy 9hound in the train tunnel and managed to get help for him.
They li#ed to wa'e at passing trains. n time they made many new friends
and forged a speial friendship with one old gentleman in partiular. The old
gentleman gets to #now them and helps them in 'arious ways. $e +eomes
instrumental in the release of their father from prison. @inally0 one day their father
returns home and e'ery+ody is happy that now they are together again.

him. Bo++ie persistently reasoned with er#s a+out the good intentions of the
'illage people gi'ing him the presents until he relented and aepted the gifts.
