I believe it fits any time of year especially around Christmas. The title of the story is “The W in Christmas”. Each December, I vowed to make Christmas a calm and peaceful experience. I had cut back on nonessential obligations - extensive card writing, endless baking, decorating, and even overspending. Yet still, I found my- self exhausted, unable to appreciate the precious family moments, and of course, the true meaning of Christ- mas. My son, Nicholas, was in kindergarten that year. It was an exciting season for a six year old. For weeks, he'd been memorizing songs for his school's "Winter Pageant." I didn't have the heart to tell him I'd be working the night of the production. Unwilling to miss his shining moment, I spoke with his teacher. She assured me there'd be a dress rehearsal the morning of the presentation. All parents unable to attend that evening were wel- come to come then. Fortunately, Nicholas seemed happy with the compromise. So, the morning of the dress rehearsal, I filed in ten minutes early, found a spot on the cafeteria floor and sat down. Around the room, I saw several other parents quietly scampering to their seats. As I waited, the students were led into the room. Each class, accompanied by their teacher, sat cross-legged on the floor. Then, each group, one by one, rose to perform their song. Because the public school system had long stopped referring to the holiday as "Christmas," I didn't expect anything other than fun, commercial entertainment songs of reindeer, Santa Claus, snowflakes, and good cheer. So, when my son's class rose to sing, "Christmas Love," I was slight- ly taken aback by its bold title. Nicholas was aglow, as were all of his classmates, adorned in fuzzy mittens, red sweaters, and bright snowcaps upon their heads. Those in the front row- center stage - held up large letters, one by one, to spell out the title of the song. As the class would sing "C is for Christmas," a child would hold up the letter C. Then, "H is for Hap- py," and on and on, until each child holding up his portion had presented the complete message, "Christmas Love." The performance was going smoothly, until suddenly, we noticed her; a small, quiet, girl in the front row hold- ing the letter "M" upside down - totally unaware her letter "M" appeared as a "W". The audience of 1st through 6th graders snickered at this little one's mistake. But she had no idea they were laughing at her, so she stood tall, proudly holding her "W". Although many teachers tried to shush the children, the laughter continued until the last letter was raised, and we all saw it together. A hush came over the audience and eyes began to widen. In that instant, we understood the reason we were there, why we celebrated the holiday in the first place, why even in the chaos, there was a purpose for our fes- tivities. For when the last letter was held high, the message read loud and clear: "C H R I S T W A S L O V E" And He still is. Pastor Duane January 2020 The Ringgold Reflector

I know the New Year is about to begin, but when I read this story written by a mom’s personal experience from Christ-

mas, I had to share it with you. I believe it fits any time of year especially around Christmas. The title of the story is

“The W in Christmas”.

Each December, I vowed to make Christmas a calm and peaceful experience. I had cut back on nonessential

obligations - extensive card writing, endless baking, decorating, and even overspending. Yet still, I found my-

self exhausted, unable to appreciate the precious family moments, and of course, the true meaning of Christ-

mas. My son, Nicholas, was in kindergarten that year. It was an exciting season for a six year old. For weeks,

he'd been memorizing songs for his school's "Winter Pageant." I didn't have the heart to tell him I'd be working

the night of the production. Unwilling to miss his shining moment, I spoke with his teacher. She assured me

there'd be a dress rehearsal the morning of the presentation. All parents unable to attend that evening were wel-

come to come then. Fortunately, Nicholas seemed happy with the compromise.

So, the morning of the dress rehearsal, I filed in ten minutes early, found a spot on the cafeteria floor and sat

down. Around the room, I saw several other parents quietly scampering to their seats. As I waited, the students

were led into the room. Each class, accompanied by their teacher, sat cross-legged on the floor. Then, each

group, one by one, rose to perform their song. Because the public school system had long stopped referring to

the holiday as "Christmas," I didn't expect anything other than fun, commercial entertainment songs of reindeer,

Santa Claus, snowflakes, and good cheer. So, when my son's class rose to sing, "Christmas Love," I was slight-

ly taken aback by its bold title.

Nicholas was aglow, as were all of his classmates, adorned in fuzzy mittens, red sweaters, and bright snowcaps

upon their heads. Those in the front row- center stage - held up large letters, one by one, to spell out the title of

the song. As the class would sing "C is for Christmas," a child would hold up the letter C. Then, "H is for Hap-

py," and on and on, until each child holding up his portion had presented the complete message, "Christmas

Love."

The performance was going smoothly, until suddenly, we noticed her; a small, quiet, girl in the front row hold-

ing the letter "M" upside down - totally unaware her letter "M" appeared as a "W". The audience of 1st through

6th graders snickered at this little one's mistake. But she had no idea they were laughing at her, so she stood

tall, proudly holding her "W". Although many teachers tried to shush the children, the laughter continued until

the last letter was raised, and we all saw it together.

A hush came over the audience and eyes began to widen. In that instant, we understood the reason we were

there, why we celebrated the holiday in the first place, why even in the chaos, there was a purpose for our fes-

tivities. For when the last letter was held high, the message read loud and clear:

"C H R I S T W A S L O V E"

And He still is.

As I prepare to end my term on the Deacon Team of RBC, I just want to thank all of you who have supported the Deacon ministry in the past 3

years, as well as those who have served before, and those who will be serving in the future. The Deacons are here to serve and support RBC and the

community. I hope that you will continue to use and support them in their ministry. There are many exciting changes occurring at RBC, including

new ministers joining our children and youth ministries, as well as other programs we are going to be putting in place in 2020.

Joining the Deacons for 2020 will be Ray McDowell, Mac McDowell, David Johnson, and Robbie Parker. They will be joining the returning 2020

Deacons: Brian Horne, Ronnie Emmerson, James Snead, Larry Collie, Chris Bass, Sammy McCormick, Billy DeMott, and Lawrence Gilbert. As

you can see, RBC is being left in great hands for the Deacon Team in 2020.

As we move into the New Year, I leave you with a few quotes to ponder in 2020 and beyond:

*Of all persons the Christian should be best prepared for whatever the New Year brings. He has dealt with life at its source. In Christ he has disposed

of a thousand enemies that other men must face alone and unprepared. He can face his tomorrow cheerful and unafraid because yesterday he turned

his feet into the ways of peace and today he lives in God. The man who has made God his dwelling place will always have a safe

habitation.

Aiden Wilson Tozer

*I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.

Paul the Apostle

*Be at war with your vices, at peace with your neighbors, and let every new year find you a better man.

Benjamin Franklin

*Maybe this year, we ought to walk through the rooms of our lives not looking for flaws, but looking for potential.

Ellen Goodman

*Write it on your heart that every day is the best day in the year.

Ralph Waldo Emerson

May God continue to bless us all in 2020 and beyond.

beside me, I know I can make it through any hardship. Prayer is so powerful. A special "Thank You" to Pastor Duane, Ron-

nie & Suzanne, Brian & Cheryl for being with Ray and supporting him during my surgery.

Thank you all so very much. Sara McDowell

Dear Church Family, Thank you all for the many gifts you have given us in this Christmas season. Thank you for the cards, for the gift

cards, for the gifts of food and money, and for the gifts you made with your own hands. All of these gifts are wonderful because we know they are given with love. The love you lavish on us is the greatest gift you could give and you give it

generously. We thank God continually for bringing us to Ringgold. We cherish each moment.

We love you all, Duane and Dena

Dan and Choir, I wanted to send a special Thank You for the Christmas Cantata that I was blessed to hear on Sunday, December

15. As a choir member's wife, I know how much hard work goes into the Christmas and Easter Cantatas and all the spe-

cial music we get to enjoy throughout the year. I have always said you guys are the best (you rock). God has blessed our church with so much talent and love for music. Again, the Christmas Cantata this year was awesome. Thank you all

again. Sara McDowell

Our shut-in for January is

Charles Anderson

775 Countryside Drive

Ringgold VA 24586

You may leave your cards for

Charles in the mailbox through

January 31.

Thanks to all who have been a part of the J.O.Y. Club

this year.

So many of you have helped each month to make our

meetings special with delicious food, clean up and

other duties as needed. However, we couldn't have

made it without some men in the group who went the

extra mile to lend their help, cooking skills and

muscle power! A huge Big Thank You - you know

who you are!

I hope 2020 brings many blessings and good health to each of you.

Weather permitting, we WILL meet on Tuesday, January 28th at noon.

Wow! What a Joy it is to be part of the Ringgold Baptist Family.

More than six years ago I was welcomed by a group of people I did not know. Needless to

say, there was a lot of apprehension on my part, but since our beginning together I have felt

more love and caring that I ever anticipated. Thank you one and all for the kind, loving sup-

port you offer. God bless.

The incredible RBC Choir did an outstanding job presenting our Christmas Cantata this year.

“Joy! Unspeakable Joy!” was a definite “hit” amongst you all. And we certainly enjoyed the

preparation and final performance – our gift in remembrance of the birth of our Lord and Savior – Jesus Christ. Merry

Christmas!!!

Now we look forward to Easter. Easter 2020 is on Sunday, April 12.

We really need more participation in the choir AND any other musical talents you have to share with the congregation.

Young folks especially… Talk to me or anyone else in the choir. If you have a talent playing guitar, for instance, we

can use you… or flute, or saxophone, or violin, or drums, or any other instrument. But…

I’d be remiss not to ask for singers. If anyone wants to join the choir, it’s real easy. You just show up on Wednesday

evenings at 7:30 (of course there are Sunday mornings also). No audition, no interview, no exams. Just bring your

voice. I don’t care if you only sing in the shower or the car. God will forgive all your iniquities as long as you bring

your voice and accept Jesus as your Savior.

“I play the notes as they are written, but it is God who makes the music.” – J.S. Bach

In Christ,

Dan
