Absentee Ballot Instructions

If you will not be in the county of your residency on Election Day, you may vote absentee ballot. In order to vote by absentee ballot, you must obtain an absentee ballot application. An absentee ballot application is availa-ble on the Nassau County or Suffolk County Board of Elections websites. You may also call the Board of Elec-tions and request an absentee ballot application. Complete the application and return it to the Board of Elections no later than one week before Election Day. The absentee ballot application deadline for this year is Tuesday November 1, 2016. The Board of Elections will send a ballot to you, on which you mark your vote. If you are going to submit your absentee ballot in person, it must be returned to the Board of Elections Office no later than Monday, November 7, 2016. If mailed, it must be postmarked no later than Monday November 7, 2016. For Absentee Voting in NY, you must meet one of the following qualifications: absent from your county or, if a resident of New York City absent from said city, on Election Day; unable to appear at the polls due to temporary or permanent illness or disability; or because you are the primary care giver of one or more individuals who are ill or physically disa-bled; a patient or inmate in a Veterans' Administration Hospital; detained in jail awaiting Grand Jury action or confined in prison after conviction for an offense other than a felony. If you are unable to get to your polling place, or stand on line at your polling place, due to condition of health or age, you may vote by absentee ballot. Follow the process as described above with one exception - check the box that says Permanent. An absentee ballot will be sent to you for every subsequent election, including primaries and special elections, without having to reapply.

FEDERAL LEGISLATION

The Conscience Protection Act [S.304], passed by the House in July, sits in the Senate. Anoth-er pending task is the confirmation of a Supreme Court justice to replace Justice Scalia. In the July/Aug. 2016 Imprimis, Oklahoma AG

Scott Pruitt notes cases & issues awaiting that confirma-tion: - Friedrichs v Calif Teachers Assoc. was left unresolved. It’s of interest to pro-lifers re the question “can the Gov-ernment force you to give money toward a cause you op-pose?” - Conscience protection cases (Zubik) were sent back to lower courts in May. Some may get to SCOTUS again. The new Justice will affect which cases the Court hears, not just the outcome. The Court declined to hear (June 28) the appeal of a Washington State pharmacy family who refused to sell morning after pills. A similar case, and laws restraining abortion, may be heard anew. Lawyers for StemExpress, the abor ted baby-parts bro-kers who sued videographer David Daleiden, have asked to be removed from the case. (Lifenews.com 8/25) The Reach Every Mother and Child Act (REACH, S.1911/H.R.3706): Rebecca Oas, Ph.D. and Lisa Cor-renti commented in the August 26th C-Fam Friday Fax, “World leaders and the US Congress claim to be united about at least one thing: ending preventable deaths in childbirth and infancy by 2030. But while pending US leg-islation enjoys bipartisan support and avoids mention of the hot button issues of abortion or contraception, it would divert grants away from real maternal health programs, including faith-based, and funnel them to groups endorsing abortion. [REACH] falls short in prioritizing evidence-based interventions that prevent and treat the causes of ma-ternal and child mortality. The REACH Act guidelines are based on an existing USAID initiative, ‘Acting on the Call,’ which relies on implementing organizations mostly known for their population control and abortion practic-es…Highly problematic is the measurement guidelines established within the REACH Act as it seeks to measure progress in terms of reducing the number of maternal and child deaths, as opposed to the ratio of deaths compared to the number of live births…making birth rarer does not nec-essarily make it safer. [REACH] calls for the measurement of lives saved, or “deaths averted,” which involves count-ing events that do not occur, yet for which the US can claim credit…Women in poor countries deserve to give birth safely, not to be urged to avoid having children.” Steven Ertelt reported at LifeNews.com on Sept. 6 that President Obama has proposed a new rule that “would essentially prohibit states from defunding Planned Parenthood…The proposed rule from the Dept. of Health and Human Services (HHS) could prevent states from blocking Title X funding…to companies like Planned Parenthood.” Rep. Diane Black stated the administration and HHS “have taken the unprecedented step of thwarting states’ rights with a shady proposed rule change that pre-vents states from funding the providers who will best serve their citizens.” She plans to “use the full force of Congress

NEW YORK STATE LEGISLATION

NYS Attorney General Eric T. Schneider-man issued an opinion in early September

that “could lead to more abortions of viable, late-term un-born babies…A1970 NY law prohibits late-term abortions after 24 weeks when unborn babies are viable outside the womb…Schneiderman believes there should be exceptions to the law… [Schneiderman] argued that the 1970 law con-flicts with more recent Supreme Court decisions about abortion. He believes the state should allow late-term abor-tions in cases when unborn babies have a potentially fatal disorder or when the mother’s health is in jeopardy. The attorney general described the exceptions as limited, but they are not. In Roe v. Wade and its companion Doe v. Bolton, ‘health’ exceptions for abortion are defined so broadly that they allow basically any abortion. “The use of ‘life and health’ of the mother really means abortion on demand throughout all 9 months of pregnancy,” said Den-nis Poust of the NYS Catholic Conference. The legal opin-ion does not overturn the law, but it does give hospitals and abortion facilities the legal grounds to start doing late-term abortions and challenge current law, according to the NY Times…Lori Kehoe (NYSRTL) previously told LifeNews, “If a mother needs to end her pregnancy in the third tri-mester, it can be safely ended with a C-section…No one has to die. A third trimester abortion takes days endanger-ing a mother’s life and results in a dead baby.”” (Micaiah Bilger, 9/8/16, LifeNews.com)

and the grassroots strengths of the national pro-life move-ment to defeat this absurd rule.” On Sept. 8, Senator Lankford introduced the Dismember-ment Abortion Ban Act, which would prohibit late-term dismemberment abortions across the US. Rep Chris Smith has sponsored the House bill (H.R.3515). Zika virus funding is still being held up in Congress because it doesn’t include funding for several Planned Parenthood facilities in Puerto Rico. Pro-abortion politi-cians blocked the latest version of the bill Sept 8th claiming PP is essential in fighting Zika because it provides contra-ceptives and other health services. Abortion activists have stated that pregnant women who contract Zika should be able to abort their child because of the possible risk of birth defects. PP staff in Miami are going door-to-door giving women ‘Zika kits’ and fliers which directly or indirectly promote abortion. (Micaiah Bilger, LifeNews.com, 9/8/16)

A study by the New England Complex Systems Institute looked at 12,000 pregnant Columbian women infected with Zika. None of them had a baby with microcephaly. Some scientists feel the real danger is the pesticide pyriproxyfen. It was sprayed in areas with a high rate of microcephaly. It was put in the drinking water in Pernambuco, Brazil, where there is a high rate of microcephaly. More research is need-ed. (Bradley Mattes, LifeNews, 9/2/16)

Life News - 4 - October 2016

Breast cancer surgeon Angela Lanfranchi has stud-ied the link between abortion and breast cancer for decades. She has been a practicing breast cancer sur-geon since 1984. After hearing an interview with Dr. Joel Brind, she began collecting data in her own prac-tice. She asked women about their reproductive histo-ry – number of pregnancies, how long each pregnancy was, how they ended. She found that premature births prior to 32 weeks, abortions, never having children or having them late in life contributed to an increased risk of breast cancer. This increased risk is related to hormonal levels in a woman’s body and the changes in breast tissue during pregnancy. Dr. Lanfranchi noted that most breast cancer risk factors are related to when a woman is exposed to es-trogen and how much estrogen a woman is exposed to in her lifetime. Women who never get pregnant, who have children later in life, and who have more men-strual cycles are at an increased risk because they are exposed to more estrogen. A pregnancy that ends early also increases the risk because in early pregnancy breast tissue reproduces rapidly and begins to develop into milk-producing tissue. However, the breast tissue does not begin fully maturing until 32 weeks of preg-nancy. Mature breast tissue (after 32 weeks) is highly cancer resistant. Immature breast tissue is cancer-prone. When pregnancy is interrupted by abortion or miscarriage, the greater amount of immature breast tissue increases the risk of breast cancer. If a pregnan-cy is cut off before 32 weeks, the immature tissue leaves more places for cancer to start. Dr. Lanfranchi cited 34 statistically significant world-wide studies that support the link between abor-tion and increased breast cancer risk. There have been at least 73 studies between 1957 and 2013 related to induced abortion and breast cancer. Fifty-seven of these studies showed a positive correlation between abortion and breast cancer risks. Thirty-four of these were statistically significant. 16 of these studies showed a negative correlation, but none of these were statistically significant. She stated, “How do people deny the link between abortion and breast cancer risks? There is sort of a willful ignorance…They don’t connect the dots.” She noted that most major cancer groups deny the risk. One reason for this is that major government funding groups ‘shut the door’ on abor-tion breast cancer research. In 2003 researchers at a National Cancer Institute workshop basically decided not to study the link or provide funding for studies. Dr. Lanfranchi said their strategy is not to talk about it an-ymore. According to Dr. Lanfranchi, another reason is fraud. She admitted that this is a strong word to use, but it could be a possible factor in the cover-up of the abortion/breast cancer link. She referred to a 2005 sur-

vey in the journal Nature, which asked several thou-sand scientists funded by the National Institutes of Health to report their ethical behaviors. The survey found that 15.5% of researchers reported (anonymously) that they changed the design, meth-odology, or results of a study in response to pressure from a funding source. Lanfranchi added that doctors and researchers face pressure to deny the abortion/breast cancer link. Some researchers who exposed the link have been ostracized and lost work. A new documentary film, “Hush”, sheds light on the cover-up of the abortion breast cancer link. The ‘pro-choice’ director, Punam Kumar Gill, concludes at the end of the film that although she believes in a woman’s right to abortion, she also feels that women are not being informed on the risks of abortion.
