PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

What can I say? Naples, the Ritz and Tiburon Golf Clubwere all terrific! I am sorry for those of you who stayedin the frigid northern climes. After our Monday 8:30shotgun was deferred because of a line of heavy rain andthunderstorms that came through, our weather was nearperfect- low 70’s with beautiful sunshine every day.

This year both the hotel and the golf service could nothave been more accommodating and pleasant. The golfpros really came through by rearranging their afternoontee sheet Monday so that our shotgun could be changedfrom 8:30 to 12:30 to avoid the storm about to arrive.

It was great having all the golf right outside the Ritzback door. The hotel did a first-class job too. Horsd’oeuvres and cocktails were superb and our banquetmeal was perfectly prepared and served.

As I believe the membership knows, because we wereshort of our commitment to the Ritz last year we agreedto return in 2010 and 2011. We were short again thisyear, but less than 2009, thanks to the efforts of mem-bers like Tommy Oates who answered an email plea andcame at the last minute. (Please note in the awards sec-tion that Tommy was rewarded for his good deed bycoming in second in his flight with his partner SkipDavis!) Final numbers are not yet in, but we may haveto sign up for 2012 as well. After the way we were roy-ally treated this year, that will NOT be a problem!

Congratulations to our championship teams- JohnRussell and Barry Campbell in the Seniors division andPaul Player and newcomer Rodger Johnson in the GrandSeniors. Our ladies champions were Clifford Boyd andJoan Priory. All of the winners are listed inside, buteveryone who attended was a winner.

We have initiated a new incentive for recruiting mem-bers: anyone who sponsors a new, paid up member for

2010 will receive a dozen golf balls of his choice at thefirst event the sponsor attends this year. Our first win-ner was Paul Player; keep up the good work, Paul.

Next on the schedule is Hammock Beach in Palm Coast,FL. Last year those who came unanimously voted toreturn. The resort has two terrific golf courses and thebeach is right outside your door. What else could youask for? See you there!

FROM THE SECRETARY

After many years in the resort business we had highexpectations from the Ritz and from Tiburon. I’mpleased to report that at every opportunity both theresort and golf club exceeded my expectations! Ourmembers were equally happy with their experience andwe’re looking forward to going back next year.

Naples attracted a fun group of long-term members,newcomers and guest partners. We would have likedmore participants, but we had excellent competition onthe course and great cocktail parties. In addition to thefive newcomers named inside, three members broughtguests as partners, and two guests have applied formembership.

Congratulations to all our winners and to NortonMontague who scored a hole-in-one on the 144-yard12th hole of the Gold Course. It was Norton’s third ace.

Building on the new guest policy adopted last year, weare planning our summer event at The Greenbrier as aMember-Guest. The format is 54-hole team match play.Go ahead and invite your guest now and mark your cal-endars for August 22-26 for the Chairman’s Cup
