January 2013 Newsletter REMINDER TO ALL MEMBERS
Lockheed Martin's Workplace Security policy, SEC-003 is strictly enforced. One provision of the policy is a workplace free of weapons, which includes Firearms, Ammunition, Bows and Arrows. The club must emphasize this policy to our members. Additionally, a state issued CCW permit does not supersede nor over ride this LM policy. Members wanting to store firearms or archery equipment during the day ONLY, must contact Gene Adamson (303-971-1531) for access instructions.
Call Plant Protection (7-4646) if you have an incident or injury on the range.
ADDITIONAL REMINDER TO ALL MEMBERS AND RANGE USERS
• Please be careful when driving on the roads, the horses may not move out of your way. • Gate signs are in place indicating when horses are in the pasture – if the sign says “horses in
pasture” they need to be kept closed. New signs have been added to help make sure it is clear if the gate should be open or closed.
• Archery Hunting boundaries have been significantly constrained due to hazardous propulsion testing – adherence to restrictions are MANDATORY – see Archery Section and your Archery representatives for more info!
• Watch out for Rattlesnakes at the range! • If you do not have your child’s Hunter Education (HE) or Home Firearm Safety (HFS) Card
you will be turned away from being able to shoot. Run a copy of the card and present it to the RSO the next time you are out. As these cards never expire, if you provide the copy once, you should be Ok for the future. If you need to get a copy of your HE card, call the Division of Wildlife or show a license that has the proof of Hunter Ed verified on it.

NRA CLASS SCHEDULE
Basic Pistol (BP) and Personal Protection in the Home (PPITH) classes have concluded for 2012. Classes will resume in April. The Basic Pistol class covers all of the basics for both revolvers and semi-automatic pistols. The club provides all firearms and ammunition for this class. All you need to bring is you hearing and eye protection. PPITH covers how to protect yourself and your family in your home with a pistol. The student will use their own firearm for this class. Basic Pistol is a prerequisite for PPITH, so keep that in mind when signing up. If you want to take PPITH without taking Basic Pistol first, you will need to contact Dave Norris (303-977-8068, or email at [email protected]) and arrange to attend Practical Pistol to demonstrate safe firearm handling and basic shooting skills prior to signing up. Each class consists of three sessions – two weeknight classroom sessions (approx 4 hour each) and a Saturday range session (approx 5 hours). Class fees are $50 for SHFC members and $75 for non-members. If you would like to sign up for a class or have more questions please contact Brian Sompayrac [email protected].

COWBOY ACTION
“Cowboy Action Shooting activities will be suspended as of Oct 4th until next spring when a decision will be made when to pick it up again. Until then, the Pistol house is open for general use during our regularly scheduled time. Contact Mark Bonkowski at 303-977-3360 if you have any questions.”
PRACTICAL PISTOL LADIES ONLY Every other Monday, 5-7 pm, we will be hosting the Practical Pistol Ladies Only activity. We meet at the gate around 4:15, and head to the range no later than 4:30. Only instructors get to talk to the Ladies, the other men have to remain silent and help with the brassing, target maintenance and score keeping. Same format as last year, bring your semi-auto pistol and 100 rounds of ammo. All shoes need to be closed toed and good flat bottomed shoes/boots are necessary, no sandals or other open toed shoes. Please wear a hat with a brim/bill and pants/shorts, not skirts. The spring and summer should be great since the winter has been so challenging. I hope to see you there. Call Dave Norris at 303-977-8068, or email at [email protected].
PRACTICAL PISTOL – LITE
Practical Pistol Lite is starting back up on April 16th, and goes every other Monday through September. For those of you who are new to Practical Pistol, this affords less experience shooters and opportunity to come out with a group of like-minded shooters and practice defensive skills. As always we will first and foremost focus on range safety. This year we are limiting participation to semi-automatics pistols in the effort to speed up the courses and get more shooting for everyone. Make sure your equipment (Pistol, Holster, Mag pouches) is in good repair and good working order. We meet at the gate around 4:15, and head to the range no later than 4:30. Since April and May weather is so challenging, please dress in layers so you can stay warm just in case it gets cold. There has never been a better opportunity to tune your defensive pistol skills, and create a defensive mindset . Call Dave Norris at 303-977-8068, or email at [email protected].
FRIDAY PRACTICAL PISTOL
SHFC January 2013 Newsletter The Friday night Practical Pistol Match is closed for the season. Tentative restart for this event is April 5, 2013 depending on the weather and range condition. For members who would like to try competitive practical pistol and would like to know what is required to participate in this dynamic sport, contact Benjamin Go for additional information at [email protected]. Information is also available at the SHFC website at http://gvtg.com/skyline/ . Go to Committees/Programs, then Practical Pistol and pick either .doc or .pdf.
PRACTICAL PISTOL – WEDNESDAY Are you ready? It’s time to come out and enjoy a couple of hours of action pistol shooting every Wednesday night. We will leave the gate about 4:30 and try and fire the first shot about 5:00.The matches are loosely based on IPSA/IDPA style matches with added focus on the practical use of a handgun for defensive shooting. Round count will be in the 50 rounds for record range. Any questions? Call or email [email protected] 303-977-3478.
MULTI-GUN
Multi-Gun Training Day New club-sponsored event this year at Skyline is a series of Multi-Gun Training Days. These sessions will consist of structured drills, repetition and practice aimed at giving the individual 3-Gun or Multi-Gun shooter the venue and opportunity to push themselves in practice and then self-evaluate with the aim of getting to the next level in the sport. Each day will generally focus on mastery of one gun and we may throw in the occasional day that will require transition practice and multiple guns. As 3-Gun is a fast-paced sport that often requires the shooter to run, shoot on the move, go prone and get up on the clock, some basic physical fitness based exercises will be incorporated in each session. Our goal will be to train hard at our home range and go out and compete in local, state and regional matches at a higher level. Schedule: Sunrise to 9:30am on Saturday with the exception of the 4th Saturday of each month which is the Winter 3-Gun series. November 17 - Pistol House (SHOTGUN) December 1 - Pistol House (TBA) 8 - 200/300 Range (RIFLE) 15 - pistol house (SHOTGUN) 29 – pistol house (RIFLE) January 5 - Pistol House (SHOTGUN) 12 – 200/300 Range (RIFLE) 19 – Pistol House (SHOTGUN) February 2 – Pistol House (RIFLE) 9 – 200/300 Range (RIFLE)
SHFC January 2013 Newsletter 16 - Pistol House (SHOTGUN) This event is open to all members and their guests that can demonstrate safe gun handling skills. If you are new to Multi-Gun and Practical Shooting, please email to arrange a safety briefing. To be added to the event notifications email Dave Hartman at [email protected] (1-4791).
3-GUN Winter 3-gun will begin with our tradition Black Friday match on November 23rd with setup starting at 8 am and the match running until noon. We will then meet on the 4th Saturday of the month from 8 to noon from December through April. For those new to 3-gun, it is similar to our Wednesday night practical pistol except we shoot the pistol, shotgun and semi-auto carbine/rifle for a combination of accuracy and speed. Getting bored sitting at the bench shooting paper targets? Want to develop your action shooting skills, shoot on the move, handle shooting under physical and mental pressure, add new dimensions to your shooting skills, refine and test your shooting gear? 3-Gun is the game for you. Shooters of all levels are welcome. 3-Gun’s goals are safety, skill development, fun and challenge. Shooters new to practical action shooting should call ahead to arrange a safety briefing. Contact Walter Tang at 303-977-6474 or email [email protected] to get on the mailing list. I usually send out the stage description before the shoot so you’ll know what to expect and how much ammo to bring.

--For any information email mailto:[email protected] for fishing --To reserve a boat email [email protected].
What a great year of fishing at Chatfield. 46 scheduled trips with the club and only two times where we didn’t catch anything. Our records this year were 30 walleye in 6 hours and 30 bass in 1.5 hours. We also had a trip where we caught 15 perch in an hour. We had up to 14 people on the ice (twice, once at Chatfield and once at Granby) and had three boats on the water one Tuesday evening. The boats ran well throughout the year and the new trolling motors and fish finders got a workout every week. Thanks to everyone who participated and I hope to see you on the ice or the water next year. 2012 Club Fishing Trip Totals
