INS IDE THIS ISSUE:
We are very proud that we have been certified as a Gold ECOSCHOOL. With the guidance of our Eco Team, and the support of the community we have implemented many initia-tives to help sustain the en-vironment. Remember to keep
sending in your used cell phone batteries and ink and toner car-tridges.
OUR GREEN SCHOOL IS CERTIFIED GOLD!
Please send litter-less lunches to school as much as possible and remember, we don’t supply disposable cut-lery . Please send re-usable utensils from home if necessary.
The students who eat in the lunchroom continue to be great supporters of the Green Bin pro-gram. Classrooms have gradually started to pi-lot Green Bin pro-grams as well.
We are encouraging the use of reusable water-bottles.
Please keep on sending in your outer milk bags.
We have been over-whelmed by the amazing response!
The Eco Team con-tinues to collect Blue Bins of recyclable materials from the office and classrooms on a regular basis.
The School Council is looking into ways to beautify our front garden.
We are enjoying the tree that was planted in memory of Mr. Payne.
We truly appreciate the support we receive from our families at home. Thank you!

Our Character Trait for November is
Honesty
As the cold weather ap-proaches, it is timely to start thinking about inclement weather reminders.
Being physically active during winter is an essential part of a healthy lifestyle and recess is one opportunity for students to be active.
Students need to come to school dressed to play outside during recesses. It is advisable for children to bring extra pants and socks in case they get wet.
We keep a close eye on
A Remembrance Day assembly will take place on Friday, November 9, at 10:45 a.m. for Students in Grades 3 to 8
weather conditions, including wind chill. When conditions necessitate, students will remain inside for re-cess or sometimes go out for a shortened recess depending on con-ditions.
In general, if students are well enough to attend school, they will be expected to go outside for out-door recesses.
We ask that parents be sensitive to the demands placed on our secretar-ies and not call the school to inquire about indoor recess, but rather send their children dressed for outdoor winter play.
If poor driving conditions necessitate the cancellation of school bus ser-vices, local and Toronto radio and T.V. stations will broadcast the in-formation. A message will also be available at www.schoolbuscity.com. Please remember: if buses are can-celled in the morning, they will not resume service during the day. Also please remember, bus cancellation does not mean that school is can-celled. However, if you choose to bring your children to school on a day when buses are cancelled, you must also make arrangements to pick them up by 3:05 P.M.

Progress Reports will go home on Wednesday, November 21st. Parent Interviews will be scheduled for the evening of Thursday, No-vember 22nd and during the day on Friday, November 23rd, which is a P.A. Day. Please complete the interview re-quest form which is included with this newsletter.

The yearbook photographers have been busy taking great pictures of Highview in action. If you would like to see a sample of one of our 72 page full-colour yearbooks, there is one in the foyer available for viewing. Be sure to order this year’s book online at www.jostens.com. They are available until January 18, 2013. Following this date all requests will go on a numbered wait list. There is no guarantee that there will be any books avail-able after the Jan. 18th deadline.
SEVERE ALLERGY ALERT As you are aware, we have several students and staff members who have severe allergies to peanuts and tree nuts. We would like to re-mind you to refrain from sending any food items to school which contain (or may con-
tain) nuts or nut by-products.
Please make sure you check Hallowe’en treats before sending anything to school as a snack.
YEARBOOK
THE SPORTS REPORT Highview's Cross Country Team had another fabulous season of fun and fitness. Our team was a little smaller this year; however, our runners distin-guished themselves at the area meet on October 11th, with far more regional runners than would be expected of a school our size. Special mention goes to our stel-lar Tyke boys team with six members in the top fifteen finish-ers! We took thirty-six runners to the championships on October 18, where we had a perfect running day to show off our skills and an
amazing three of our seven teams placed in the top four! Congratu-lations Hawks!
Both the Girls’ and Boys’ Volley-ball teams have been selected and are busy practising.
