POINT GREY SECONDARY News & Events November 2, 2018 [email protected] Support the 2019 Grads! Buy flowers! The Point Grey 2019 Safe After Grad Committee is holding this popular fundraiser again with all the proceeds raised from the sale of the poinsettias and wreaths going towards reducing the ticket cost to Dry Grad. This will help make grad activities affordable for everyone. This is going to be a very quick turnaround time. So, start thinking of who you know that would like to buy a couple of poinsettias or wreaths. Why not ask grandparents, uncles, aunts, neighbours, local businesses, and/or parent’s workplaces. We are hoping each student from each grade can sell at 2-3 poinsettias and or wreaths. Things you need to know: All orders must be prepaid. Cheques should be made payable to Point Grey Secondary and attached to order forms. Completed order forms with payment are to be returned to the Grad Poinsettia box located in the office, no later than Tuesday, November 13th, 3:15 pm. Poinsettia and Wreaths will be available for pick up in the Cafeteria at the school on Friday, November 30 th between 1-6pm. Forms have been sent out by the school already via email or find them on the PAC website. Index 1. Flower Sale – 2019 Grads 2. School drop–off & pick up 3. School drop-off and pick-up First, a very big thank you to the PAC volunteers who stood outside during drop off this week to block unauthorized cars from pulling into the staff parking lot. It was an eye-opening experience for us. The situation at the intersection of East Blvd and 37th Avenue and up past the school driveway is a dangerous one, and made worse by parents/carers. We watched a number of near misses this week - drivers speeding on their way to drop their children off or turning to get out of the traffic line-up and not noticing kids crossing the street.

After a week of watching the intersection, it is clear why the school has asked parents not to drive into the staff parking lot. The teachers and school buses are trying to get into the lot and are blocked by parents coming up from dropping off their kids. More importantly, turning out from the parking lot onto an already chaotic 37th Avenue creates a safety hazard.

You can safely drop your kids off on East Blvd at the front of the school or on 37th Avenue just up from the staff parking lot. If your child has a mobility issue, please go to the office for a PG Staff parking pass.

The school and the PAC are committed to creating a safe school zone for our kids, we will be contacting the city and the police to ask for help and would appreciate any productive suggestions.
