Second, follow “POL Prep Schedule” & due dates. In advisory, you will receive a “Portfolio Defense Prep Schedule” which will help guide you along in your preparation for POL’s.

Third, pick EKS & Evidence for each of your classes. Read carefully – Each teacher has different requirements. A few things that all classes require:

ALL teachers require SCANNED evidence.

Evidence MUST be legible and the words must be equivalent to 30 pt font.

Panel A Essential Knowledge & Skills and Evidence (POE, Chemistry, World History)

Principles of Engineering

Essential Knowledge & Skill choices Must choose ONE to present

Evidence Choices You must create your evidence and it must be digital.

Simple Machine: Explain mechanical advantage

and the difference between IMA and AMA.

Discuss the importance of the six different

simple machines and describe how they can be

used together. Be able to describe the changes

to the overall IMA of a compound machine when

specific changes are made to any one of the

simple machines.

Find or design a compound machine with minimum of 3 simple machines. Describe, in detail, the simple machines, the IMA, and possible AMA.

Machine Control: Be able to choose appropriate

input and output devices, differentiate the

characteristics of digital and analog devices, and

create a program utilizing the computer

software while being able to differentiate

between open and closed loops.

Create a code that includes (at a minimum): a while loop, if statement, the use of both a digital and analog sensor, and a motor. Include the Task Description, Pseudocode and comments. Explain, in detail, the code.

EN and Design Process: Accurately use and

explain the importance of an engineering

notebook and describe the 12 steps to the

design process.

In your EN, solve an engineering problem (may

be made up or existing) by using the 12 steps of

the design process correctly. You must be able

to show your understanding of the steps. Quality

will be assessed here.

Essential Knowledge & Skill choices Must choose one to present. The directions listed below describe your POL “assignment.”

Evidence Choices – List title or fact within PPT slide (no physical, no digital evidence) and use it to prove your argument in your spoken explanation.

Essential #4: I can trace the development of Western political thought – from Judeo-Christian beliefs, Greco-Roman philosophy, The Enlightenment, and the U.S. Constitution – and its impact on modern society. Directions: Pick one of the six questions from the Philosophers’ Forum and answer it, based on your assigned philosopher’s beliefs. (Check the “Democracy” folder on Edmodo for the preparation guide/questions. The question you choose does not have to be the one you answered during the Forum.)

You can only have one slide for this EKS, with a title and four bullet points maximum, seven words per bullet point maximum.

Type out the original question as the title of your slide.

Write your Philosopher’s Name

Two bullet points need to address main arguments.

The third bullet point needs to be the name of the document/speech/writing that your philosopher made that would support your argument. List it here, but then elaborate in your spoken explanation.

Each of your bullet points can only have seven words max. Treat each bullet point as a speaking point, upon which you will further elaborate during your spoken explanation.

Example of what your one slide should look like:

Essential #5: I can connect the legacies of the Glorious and American revolutions to the causes of the French Revolution, as well as be able to explain the global impact of the French Revolution on political thought and personal freedoms. I can also clearly identify and explain the definition of a revolution as it relates to the French Revolution. Directions: Explain and prove how the French Revolution truly was or was not a revolution.

You can only have one slide for this EKS, with a title and three bullet points maximum. Type out your original essay test answer to this question (you do not need to scan or screen shot it) and explain why it was/was not correct based on the three parts of the definition. Your evidence will be part of your explanation and is fact-based (no citations necessary). Each of your bullet points must address one part of the definition and can only be seven words long maximum. Treat each bullet point as a speaking point, upon which you will further elaborate during your spoken explanation. Example of what your one slide should look like:

Fourth, complete your reflections. These are general reflections on your performance in all classes, not just the ones in your panel. Be honest and take the time to really think these through.

Fifth, write your Scripts and make your

PowerPoint.

Important things to know before you begin:

You will be asked to move onto your reflection at the 9-minute, 30-second mark of your presentation.

Notecards are not allowed. Just write the title or number for each EKS you present; do not write out the entire EKS

description. You CANNOT read from your PowerPoint, but only glance at it to jog your memory. Bullet points: limited to 3 per slide, no complete sentences (see English section for specific

exceptions) You must bring ONE completed, typed, printed script to your presentation. It must be printed

BEFORE you enter the room and handed to the panel at the start of your presentation. You will not be allowed to leave the room to print once you have entered.

When you have completed your script and PowerPoint, you must upload your PPT to:

Be sure to read the “!Directions” file BEFORE you attempt to upload your presentation. You need to upload your presentation at least one day in advance as to avoid any unforeseen circumstances. Introduction (15-30 seconds): To start your presentation, you will reflect on your semester of learning and draw connections between a common theme to present in your classes and one area of personal interest. You will address this theme as a part of your reflection during your conclusion. Note: Do not spend all of your preparation time trying to think of a theme. questions based on your panel. Sample Content Questions you must be prepared to answer

This is not an exhaustive (complete) list of possible questions you may be asked. Your teacher may ask you additional questions not listed here and in an Essential Skill that you did/did not present on. The purpose of giving you these sample content questions is to help you prepare since all of them touch on topics you should be able to answer. There will not be any follow-up questions, so be prepared to answer the question accurately and completely the first time around.
