PRESS RELEASE

THE ORCHESTRA OF THE AMERICAS RETURNS TO EUROPE

For immediate release

Washington, DC. May 10, 2018. The Orchestra of the Americas, a world-class symphony orchestra of musical leaders from 25 countries of the Western Hemisphere, ages 18 to 30, returns to Europe in summer 2018 by invitation from some of the continent’s top summer venues and festivals, including The Rheingau Festival, The Edinburgh International Festival, The Elbphilharmonie, and The Krzysztof Penderecki European Centre for Music, among others. International soloists, like acclaimed Venezuelan pianist Gabriela Montero-whose 2015 release with The Orchestra of the Americas won a Latin Grammy award; renowned Argentinian pianist Ingrid Filter; piano prodigy Kristina Miller; Polish piano sensation Lucas Krupinski, as well as Paganini competition winner Dmitri Berlinsky will join The Orchestra of the Americas during its journey across Poland, Ukraine, Germany, and Scotland, spanning nearly 3,500 kilometers of diverse cultures and rich histories.

The mission of The Orchestra of the Americas is to empower young musical leaders to transform lives and communities across the Americas and beyond. “We look forward to performing in a number of Europe’s most venerated festivals and venues, and sharing with regional audiences musical masterworks of the Americas performed by the brightest young talents from across two Continents,” said Music Director, Carlos Miguel Prieto. This year alone, more than 5,000 musicians from 30 countries across the Western Hemisphere registered for the 2018 Europe Tour; only the top 80 musicians were invited to participate. This is the first time that Ukrainian musicians take part in the tour.

The Orchestra of the Americas' 2018 European Tour begins on July 5 in Luslawice, Poland, under the direction of acclaimed Mexican Music Director Carlos Miguel Prieto and a faculty of world-class coaches from top professional orchestras like the Berlin Philharmonic, Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra of Saint Petersburg, the Metropolitan Opera, and other respected global institutions with two weeks of intensive rehearsals at The Krzysztof Penderecki European Centre for Music. This Residence culminates in two concerts (July 13 & 14) and two days of recording sessions for Linn Records. In addition to artistic mentorship, orchestra musicians receive leadership, civic and social entrepreneurship training through community engagement activities and workshops that benefit the local community.

Following the Residence, The Orchestra of the Americas tours in the historic city of Warsaw on July 19 with Polish piano sensation Lucas Krupinski under the baton of Hobart Earle, Music Director of the Odessa Philharmonic, featuring the music of honored resident composer Krzysztof Penderecki. The Orchestra of the Americas will make its Ukrainian debut, performing in the three major Ukrainian cities: Lviv (July 22 & 24), Kyiv (July 27) and Odessa (July 30 & 31) with guest artists such as German pianist Kristina Miller, Paganini Competition winner Dmitri Berlinsky, as well as Peruvian violinist Eduardo Rios. In addition to performing stand-alone concerts, the orchestra participates in a musical and cultural exchange with the Lviv Philharmonic Orchestra, with guest conductor Taras Krysa and the music of composer Myroslav Skoryk, pairing 80 musicians from across the Americas with counterparts from across Ukraine.

In Germany, The Orchestra of the Americas will lead concerts at a number of the country’s top venues, including The Rheingau Festival (August 2) and Hamburg’s newly constructed Elbphilharmonie (August 5). Venezuelan pianist Gabriela Montero, a long-time collaborator of the orchestra, appears as guest soloist in Germany with the orchestra. The tour concludes in Scotland with the orchestra’s debut at the iconic Edinburgh International Festival (August 7), with Montero.
