WHAT IS AN ORGANIZATIONAL POLICY? Genesis 2:15-17

A Policy can be defined as a set of PRINCIPLES, and GUILDLINES to be FOLLOWED, Formulated or adopted by an organization to reach its SHORT AND LONG TERM GOALS.

PROCEDURES:1. Procedure is the ‘nitty gritty’ of the policy,

outlining what has to be done to

implement the policy e.g. Recruitment policy

2.A series of small STEPS taken to accomplish

an END

3. A set of ESTABLISHED FORMS or methods of an organized body for accomplishing a certain task.PROCCESSES:A series of events to produce a result

IMPORTANCE OF ORGANIZATIONAL POLICIES AND PROCEDURES:

• Policies serve as important forms of INTERNAL CONTROL. Look at a policy as a mechanism that will

effectively limit the wrong behavior of some employees

• Minimize COST and RISK. facilitates PROMOTION

• Maintain a degree of ACCOUNTABILITY in the eyes of internal and external stake holders

• Helps in achieving the organizations GOALS

• REDUCE CONFLICT in the work place

QUALITIES OF A GOOD POLICY/PROCEDURE

A. It must be EXPLICIT, i.e. Specific, Clear and Detailed

B. It should be written in plain English, easy for employees to understand

C. Explain the acceptable and unacceptable behavior in the work place

D. Clear enough to state who the policy applies to. E.g. does it apply to employees only or clients and vendors

E. Seek the well being and growth of the employee, as well as the organization

EXAMPLE OF A POLICYE-mail Policy:Using the organizations computer to seek out, access or send any material of an offensive, obscene of defamatory nature is prohibited and may resultin disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment.

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES ARE NOT:

1.TO DISRUPT OR FUSTRATE OPERATIONS

2.TO WITCH HUNT PERSONNEL

3. A TRAP

4.TO BE USED FOR OFFICE POLITICS

5.AN ENEMY OF PROGRESS BUT A FRIEND

WORKING WITHIN POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

Working with in organizational policies and procedures is not as simpleas reading policies and procedures manuals.

Policy is not just the written word, Its critical aspect is the WAY it is INTERPRETED by various people and the way it is implemented.(The way things are done around here).

1. Network closely with colleagues and management2. Attend staff and management committee meetings

where possible3. Informally network with other workers4. Read E-mails and Memos on notice boards5. Put your self in the shoes of the business owner

WE NEED TO ALWAYS SEPARATE POLICY FROM PERSONALITY

AT MBONNY,IT’S ALL ABOUT THE BUSINESS,AND WE GET IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME.

RIGHTEOUSNESS EXALTHS A NATION, BUT SIN IS A REPROACH.

AND WHEN THE RIGHTEOUS RULES THE PEOPLE will REJOICE.

THANK YOUAre there some policies we need to review?
