Impact strengthUnnotched polycarbonate is virtually unbreakable, making it extremely safein areas where parts may be exposed to impact. Polycarbonate sheet is asclear as glass and 250 times stronger. It‘s also 30 times stronger than Acrylicsheet - offering a margin of safety that no other clear glazing material canbeat. This tough, long lasting material offers attractive protection in areassubject to high traffic, vandalism or burglary.

LightweightThe unique combination of light weight (half of glass) and high strength allowsdesigns that require less structural support. Policarbonate sheet is extremelyductile. It can be cut on site from flat sheet or cold formed into curves that wouldbe impossible to construct with laminated glass. Bending radius of polycarbonatesheet should be at least 180 times to the sheet thickness for outdoor use, and least100 times the thickness for indoor use.

Electrical

Polycarbonate is excellent for electricalapplications, because of its excellent insulationproperties, high dielectric strength and highvolume resistivity.Polycarbonate is highly suitable for use in parts ofelectrical equipments, electrical housing, switchboards, where insulation, shock resistance, high temperature and transparency is needed.Light weight, impact and shatter resistantqualities make it perfect for housing computers, cell phone, fax machines while at the same timewithstanding the bangs, and accidental drops.

High Heat Environments Resistance

Polycarbonate can be used in lighting applications when temperature is critical.Lighting systems with halogen lamps generating high heat require parts such ashousings, reflectors, and lenses that withstand high temperatures. The use ofhigh temperature resistance materials allows greater design flexibility andweight saving by replacing traditional material like glass or metal.

Cutting and sawingPolycarbonate sheet can be cut with a variety of common hand-held and tablemounted sawing equipment, circular saw, band saw, shearing machine of jig saw.We recommended using circular saw (TC+20 blade type) for clean cut withoutfusing and burrs (saw diameter : 255, 305 mm ; number of teeth : 80 ; speed3500~6000 rpm) . Remember, take care to protect yourself from injury. Useappropriate eye and ear protection and exercise caution when operatingcutting equipment.DrillingHoles can be made with sheet metal drill bits. We recommended adjusting thespeed and feed rate to prevent heat buildup. 800 to 1500 rpm is the recommendedspeed range.PunchingPunching is possible with a punch press and die. A clearance of about 5 percent ofthe sheet thickness from the edge is recommended.BondingPolycarbonate can be mechanically bonded by standard methods. It can also becemented by using a solvent such as methylene chloride or ethyl chloride solvent.Adhesives such as epoxy, isocyanate, urethane and silicone, generally to bond PC toother material.

Painting and PrintingUrethane, epoxy, acrylic, polyvinyl chloride acetate copolymer and phenol resin paints can all be used. Acrylic cold setting paints are recommended. For printing, acrylic, chlorinated rubber, polyvinyl chloride and polyamide inks can be used, while chlorinate rubber and polyamide inks are preferred. When choosing a paint or printing ink, take a special note of chemical composition, especially the type and concentration of the thinner or carrier that is used.

Removing paint or other materialsFresh paint may be removed by rubbing lightly with a cleaning material such asisopropyl alcohol. Then the sheet should be washed immediately with a mildsoap or detergent in warm water, and rinsed thoroughly with clean water.Grease and glazing compound may similarly be removed from the surface withthe above mentioned cleaning materials. Weathered paint may be lifted off thesheet with masking tape. Razor blades or other sharp scraping tools shouldnever be used.

BendingStrip heating is an acceptable method for localized bending of polycarbonate sheet.Heating both sides at the bend area is required for best results. Using nichromewire or allows localized heating to form simple and complex angles. Thetemperature for strip heating should be approximately 315°F (160°C to 200ᵒC).

ThermoformingHigh-temperature thermoforming (370ºF/187°C to 415ºF/212°C) provides deepdraws and sharp detail. Lower temperatures (350ºF/ 176°C to 370ºF) fit simpledrape forming.Polycarbonate differs from most thermoplastics in three important ways:• It rapidly loses its rigidity at forming temperatures above 370ºF (187°C)• It has a narrow high-temperature forming range of 370ºF (187°C) to 415ºF (212°C)• It forms interior bubbles if entrained moisture is present. Before forming, it is necessary to dry the material at 110ᵒC to 125ᵒC for two or three hours. Pre-heating is also effective in creating an efficient forming cycle with uniform result.

• Heating methods — Heating polycarbonateSheet in a hot air oven is impractical because the rapid stiffening ratedemands fast action between heating and forming. For example, only six seconds are recommended for 3 mm sheet between heatingand forming. The corresponding time for 6 mm sheet is about 10seconds. An infrared oven (gas-fired or electric) is the acceptedheating method. Electric heating is generally safer, morecontrollable.
