Summary

• Reference welds are failing outside the fusion plane inthe parent material.

• Contaminated welds are failing partially or completelyinside the fusion plane.

• Reference welds can clearly be distinguished from contaminated welds.

• A similar result is expected by the ultrasonic investigations.
