Pop Art Pop art first began in the mid 1950s in Britain and soon after in America. Pop art broke away from the traditions of fine art and started focusing on mass culture like advertising, comic books, celebrities and even boring household items. Items that were restricted and rationed during WWII, were being advertised more and the artists started using these as tools to get away from the fine art traditions and blur the lines between ‘high’ art and ‘low’ popular culture. Andy Warhol was probably the most famous Pop art artist of all time and one of his most famous creations was of a tin of Campbell’s soup. Another artist, Roy Lichtenstein was famous for his paintings that were created in the form of comic strips. Below are two graphic designs that are inspired by pop art.
