Rule, when you are describing an object’s location and the item second item is singular and masculine you have to change de+ el to del. This is called a contraction.

Ejemplo: La papelera está debajo del pupitre.

La papelera está debajo de los pupitres. Why doesn’t this sentence requirea contraction?
