Avoidexposingthecarboncomponentstoextremeheatsuchassunlightinsideavehicle.Donothaveyourframeorfrontforksrepaintedorpowdercoatedasthisproducesexcessivetemperatures,whichmaydamageordestroythecomponents.

Keepthecarboncontactsurfacesfreeofgrease.Usespecialcarbonfittinglubricant[availableatbikespecialistshops].Neverclampthecarbonframeintoanassemblyrackorroofrackwhentransportingit.Onlyusethesaddlesupportforthisprovidingitisnotmadeofcarbon.

Important notes on carbon as a work material

Pleasenotethattheworkmaterials,carbonandaluminium,reactdifferentlywhendamaged.Unlikealuminium,carbondoesnotexhibitdentsorotherdeformationwhenoverloaded[typicalsignsofdamagedaluminium].Damagestocarbonmostoftenoccurontheinside[splitting].Afteracrash,itisimperativethattheframeorthefrontforksareinspectedbyabikespecialistofyourchoiceoratanauthorizedPorschedealershipfollowingcoordinationwiththePorscheBikehotlineandtoreplacethemintheeventofdamagetothecarbonstructure.Ifdamaged,acarboncomponentmaysuddenlyfail.

Intheeventofafibrefracture,pleasebecarefulwhenhandlingthematerial,thefinecarbonfibresposeariskofinjury.

Carboncomponentsmayneverbeworkedbackintoshapeifdamaged.Insteadimmediatelyreplacethedamagedcomponent.

Damagestothepaintshouldberepairedimmediatelytopreventthematerialfromabsorbingmoistureasthismaynegativelyinfluencethematerialproperties.

Important notes on the frame

Damage to the frame due to excess stress, accidents or crashes. Adamagedframemaysuddenlyfailandcauseacrash.ContactthePorscheBikehotlineifthePorscheframeisdamagedandafteranaccidentorcrash.

Material fatigue of carbon components. Heavilystressedcarboncomponentssuchasthehandlebars,stemandseatpostaresubjecttomaterialfatiguejustlikeothercomponentsmadeofmetalworkmaterials.Replacethecarboncomponentsaccordingtothespecificationsinthemaintenanceandserviceschedule[seepage78].

Use of damaged carbon components. Ifcarbonframes,forksorothercarboncomponentsproducecrackingsoundsorifwhitecracks,indents,dentsordiscolorationcanbeseen,theymaynolongerbeused.Damagedcarboncomponentscansuddenlyfailandcauseacrash.Immediatelyreplaceanydamagedcarboncomponents.

Pleaseensurethatyouonlyusethebikeasdescribedinthechapter‘Properuse’.Pleasetakenoteoftheintendeduseasindicatedinthischapterandthemaxi-mumoverallweightofyourbike.Itisimportantthatyouinspectyourbikeeachtimebeforeusingittoensurethatitisfunctioningproperly.Asaminimumyoushouldcompletethefollowingchecks:

Quick release

Pleasecheckthequickreleasesorquickreleaseaxle[BikeRX]onthefrontwheelaxle,therearwheelaxleandontheseatpost.

Checktomakesurethewheelsaresecurelymountedandthattheseatcannotbetwisted.

Wheels and tyres

Checkthatthetyresandwheelsareingoodcondi-tion.Checkthetyrepressurewithapressuregauge.Theairpressuremaydropifthebikeisnotusedforprolongedperiodsorastheresultoftransport.

Makesurethatbothwheelsspinfreelyandcheckthewheels’radialrun-out.Wheelrun-outmaybeattributedtodefectsinthetyres,thespokesorhub.

Brakes

Beforeusingthebikeforthefirsttime,checkthebrakes.Firstcheckthelocationofthehandbrakelever.Incountrieswithright-handtraffic,PorscheBikesare

shippedsuchthattheleftbrakelevercontrolsthefrontwheelbrakeandtherighttherearwheelbrake.Incountrieswithleft-handtraffic,PorscheBikesareshippedsuchthattherightbrakelevercontrolsthefrontbikebrakeandtheleftbrakelevertherearwheelbrake.Determinethelocationofthefrontandrearwheelbrakelevers.

Hydraulicdiscbrakesareveryeffectiveanditiseasytooverestimatehowmuchpressureisneededtoactivatethem.Forthisreason,youshouldtesttheireffectivenessonalevel,non-sliptrackthatisremovedfromroadtraffic.Pleasereadthechapter‘Brakes’onp.33carefully.

Sudden braking. Accidentallyapplyingthefrontwheelbrakemaycauseacrash.Familiariseyourselfwiththelocationofthefrontandrearwheelbrakelevers.

Impaired braking or brake failure. Defectiveorbrokenbrakesmaycauseseriousaccidents.Checkthefunctionofthebrakeseachtimebeforeusingthebike.

PleaseuseanM6orM8Allenkey,dependingonthepedaltype,tomountthepedals.Beforeyouscrewthepedalsintothecrankthreading,applyasmallamountofassemblygrease.Whenscrewingthepedalsintoplace,pleasekeepinmindthattherightsideofthepedalhasaright-handthread[tightenedclockwise]andtheleftpedalsidehasaleft-handthread[tightencounterclockwise].Thepedalsarelabelled‘R’forthe

PorscheBikesaresuppliedwithdifferentpedalsystemsasstandard.Eitherflatorclickpedalsareused.

Handlebars, stem and suspension fork

Youhavetheoptionofadjustingthehandlebars,thestemandthesuspensionforktoyourneeds.Thechapters‘Suspensionfork’onp.55and‘Adjustingthehandlebarsandstem’onp.61describeindetailhowtomakeadjustments.Readthesechapterscarefullysothatyouareableadjustthesecompo-nentscorrectly.

Seat height and position

Youhavetheoptionofadjustingyourseatheightandseatpositiontoyourbodysizeoryourpreferredpositionoverthebottombracket.AdetaileddescriptionisprovidedintheChapter‘Adjustingtheseatheight’onp.57.

Checking the bolted connections

Pleaseliftyourbikeapproximately10cmandthendropitfromthislimitedheightontotheground.Rattlingsoundsindicateloosecomponents.Locatethesourceoftherattlingandcheckthescrewedconnectionsandbearing.

Biking on public roads

Ifyouintendtousepublicroads,youmustequipyourbiketocomplywiththelegalrequirementsofyourcountry.

Sluggish or impaired steering. Sluggishorimpairedsteeringmayresultincrashes.MakesurethatthesteeringissmoothandthattheBowdencablesdonotimpairtheturningangle.

Forinformationoncyclingonpublicroads:Pleaseconsultthechapter‘Legalrequirementsregulatingtheuseonpublicroads’onp.28.Pleaseconsultthechapter‘Notesonsafeuseofpublicroads’onp.31.Beforeusingpublicroads,getinformedonthespecificregulationsthatapplyinyourcountry.

Click-in and release of click pedals. Alackofpracticeorsettingthereleasemechanismtootightmaycausecrashes.Carefullyreadthroughtheenclosedowner’smanualforthepedals.Setthepedalreleasemechanismasdescribedintheenclosedowner’smanual.Refertothepedalmanufacturer’swebsite[seepage84]forfurtherinformation.Beforeyourfirsttrip,familiariseyourselfwiththeclick-inandreleaseprocessofthepedalsinastandingposition.

Every time before you use your bike

Non-secured centre/side kickstand.Ifacentreorsidekickstandisnotsecuredproperly,itmayreleasewhileyouareridingandcauseanaccident.Ensurethatthecentreorsidekickstandisinafullyretractedposition.

Damage due to fatigue and wear. Damageduetofatigueandwearmaybeindicated,forexample,byscratches,bendingandcracksortheimpairmentoffunctions.Componentsthathaveexceededtheirlifecycleposeariskoffailure.Checkthebikefordamageduetofatigueandwearonaregularbasis.Replacetherubbergripsandplugsiftheyaredamagedorworn.Ifyoufindanysignsofdamageorwear,contactyourPorscheCentreorthePorscheBikehotline.Incorrect or incomplete setup of the bike.

Incorrectorincompletesetupofthebikemayresultinseriousaccidents.Donotusethebikebeforeworkingthrougheachofthepointslistedinthischapter.ContactthePorscheBikehotlinewithanyquestionsorifyouareunsurehowtosetupthebike.

What to check after a crash

Acrashmaynegativelyaffectthefunctioningofthebikeandresultindamage.Itispossiblethatyourbikeisrenderedunusable.Forthisreason,pleaseperformthefollowingchecks:

Wheels and tyres

Pleasecheckyourwheels.Theymustbefirmlypositionedinthewheelmountsbymeansofthequickreleases/quickreleaseaxlesorscrewedconnectionsandbecentredinthefrontforkandrearfork.Theymustrevolvesmoothlyandwithoutanyrunout.Checkyourtyresfordamage,particularlytotheframe.

Handlebars and front fork

Checkthehandlebarsandfrontforkforanydamageandcracks.Checktomakesurethehandlebarsandfrontforkarenottwistedagainstoneanotherintheassembly.Todoso,holdthefronttyrebetweenyourkneesandattempttotwistthehandlebars.

Derailleur

Pleasecheckthatyourchainislocatedonthefrontchainringsandrearcassette.Acrashontherearderailleursidemaydamageit.Attempttoshiftthroughthegearsandmakesuretheshifterordropout,whichmaybebent,doesnotcometooclosetotherearwheelspokes.

Bent rear derailleur. Contactbetweentherearderailleurandthespokesposesariskofcrashing.Donotuseabikewithabentrearderailleur.ContactabikespecialistorthePorscheBikehotline.

Twisted front derailleur. Atwistedfrontderailleurmaycausethechaintoslipoffthechainwheel.Thebikewillthereforeceasetobepropelledforward.Donotuseabikewithatwistedfrontderailleur.

– Makesurethatyourseathasnotbeenbentbythecrash.Todoso,comparetheseatalignmentagainstthetoptube.

– Checkyourbikeforlooseboltedconnectionsandcomponents.

Bent parts. Donotbendbentpartsbackintotheiroriginalshape.Thereisanacuteriskofbreakage.Thisparticularlyappliestopartsessentialtosafetysuchastheframe,frontfork,handlebars,stemandseatpost.Immediatelyreplacebentparts.

Handling the quick releases or quick release axles

Quickreleasesorquickreleaseaxles[BikeRX]onthefrontandrearwheelandontheseatpostallowyoutomountanddismountwheelseasilyandadjusttheseatheighttotheheightofthecyclist.Youshouldcheckthatthequickreleasesorquickreleaseaxlesarefirmlytightenedbeforeeachtripandthewheelsandseatpostarefirmlymountedonthebike.

Whenclosed,thequickreleaseexertstheclampingforceneededtofixthecomponentsinplaceusinganeccentric.Thelockingnutontheoppositesideofthehubsetstheclamp’spre-stress.

Thewheelquickreleasesorquickreleaseaxleleversarelocatedonthefrontandrearwheelonthesideoppositethederailleur,i.e.ontheleft-handsidewhenyoufacethedirectionoftravel.Whenmountingthewheels,makesurethatthequickreleasesarealwaysonthissidetopreventimpropermounting.

Theoriginalinvoiceand/ororiginalreceiptmustbesubmittedalongwiththedefectivebike.Ifthedefectivebikeandtheoriginalinvoiceand/ortheoriginalreceiptarenotsubmittedortheoriginalinvoiceand/ororiginalreceiptareincomplete,illegibleortechnicallyincorrect,thewarrantormayrefusetoprovidetheservicesprescribedinthewarranty.

Acorrespondingwarrantyisofferedforthepartsinstalledinorrepairedinthescopeofsubsequentperformanceuptotheexpiryofthebike’swarrantyperiod.Thisalsoappliesifareplacementbikeisdelivered.

Ifthewarrantordeliversanewbikeonthebasisofawarrantyclaim,itmaydemandthereturnofthedefectivebikeandpaymentofappropriatecompensa-tionfortheuseofthereturnedbikeasprescribedbytheregulationsoftheBürgerlichesGesetzbuch[GermanCivilCode]governingrescissionpursuantto§§346-348BGB.ThereturnofthedefectivebikeandthedeliveryofanewbikewilltakeplaceexclusivelyatthepremisesoftheauthorisedPorscheCentrewhosoldthereturnedbike.

Exclusion of warranty claims

Thewarrantydoesnotcovernormalwearandtearitems.

Expenditureforregularbikemaintenanceandrepairsisnotcoveredbythewarranty.

Furthermore,nowarrantyobligationsexistintheeventofdefectscausedby:

1.improperhandling,overloadingofthebikeoruseofthebikeinathleticcompetitions;or

2.thebikeundergoingimproperrepairs,impropermaintenanceorimpropercareperformedbythewarrantyholderorathirdpartywhichisnotanauthorisedPorschepartnerorabikespecialistorpartsbeinginstalledinthebikewhoseusewasnotapprovedbythewarrantororthebikebeingmodifiedinamannernotapprovedbythewarrantor;or

3.thewarrantyholderfailingtoobservetherulesfortheuse,handlingandcareofthebike[e.g.owner’smanual]or

4.thebikebeingdamagedbyanoutsideinfluence,storageortransportequipmentorotherexternalfactors[e.g.accident,vandalism]or

5.thewarrantyholderfailingtoimmediatelyreportadefectortoimmediatelyprovideanopportunityforsubsequentperformancedespitebeingrequestedtodoso.

Furthermore,nowarrantyobligationsexistiftheframenumberofthebikeismodified,removedorrenderedillegible.

Ifthewarrantorcitestheexclusionofwarrantyclaims,thewarrantyholdershallcarrytheburdenofproofwhendemonstratingtheabsenceofsuchgroundsforexclusion.

Warranty

Thelegalwarrantyofthebikesellerformaterialdefectsmustbedifferentiatedfromtheabovemanufacturer’swarranty.

Wear

Basedontheirfunction,somepartsofyourbikearesubjecttowear.Normalwearisnotcoveredbythecurrentwarrantynordoesitqualifylegallyasamaterialdefect.Theamountofweardependsonthecareandmaintenanceofthebikeandthewayitisused[handlingwhilecycling,exposuretorain,dirt,salt,etc.].Bikeswhichareoftenleftoutsidemightalsobesubjecttoadditionalweather-relatedwear.Oneexam-pleofthisisseaair,whichhasahighsaltcontent.

Wearablepartsrequireregularmaintenanceandcare;however,dependingontheintensityandtermsofuse,theywilleventuallyreachtheendoftheirlifecycle.Thesepartsmustbereplacedoncetheyreachtheirwearlimit.Thisaffectsthefollowingcomponentsinparticular:Drivechain/belt,rearcassette,chainringsandpulleys,handlebargrips,rearderailleur,derailleurcables,handlebarsandstem,seatpostandseat,brakepadsanddiscs,wheelsincludingtyresandtubes,brakecables.

Brake pads

Duetotheirfunction,thediscbrakepadsaresubjecttowear.Athleticuseortripsonmountainousterrainmayreducethereplacementintervalsforthepads.Checkthepadconditiononaregularbasisandifnecessary,havethemreplacedataspecialisedworkshop.Usingawornpartisdangerousandmayresultinaccidents.Usingawornpartmayalsocausedamagetootherpartsofthebike.
