Welcome to the Porsche Driving Experience

Dear traveller,

dear Porsche enthusiast,

To the water’s edge or the edge

of your limits? In the Alps or in

some of the most demanding

situations possible. The Porsche

Driving Experience has just

what you are looking for. While

the Porsche Travel Club com-

bines driving a Porsche along

extraordinary routes with high

levels of exclusivity, the Porsche

Sport Driving School focuses

more on finely honing your driv-

ing skills. Two partners offering

something very different, yet with

one common goal: providing you

with an unforgettable driving

experience – behind the wheel of

a Porsche.

The training courses offered

by the Porsche Sport Driving

School have one clear aim: to

improve your driving capabilities

step by step and enable you to

drive more safely. At various levels

and always under the guidance

of professional instructors.

You can either start with the

introductory Warm-up or go

straight to Precision training.

The next level up, Performance

training, focuses on improving

your vehicle control in hazardous

situations. Following on from that,

Master training prepares you for

entry into the world of motor-

sport. Gradually, our courses

make sure you are ready to apply

for a racing licence – your ticket to

compete in motorsport events

such as the Porsche Sports Cup, a

race series for Porsche customers

held at various German and inter-

national circuits.

We also offer a range of special

courses designed to help you

explore your own limits and take

you off the beaten track – on snow

and ice. For example, at Camp4,

Camp4S and on our ‘Ice-Force’

training course, which has been

attracting enthusiasts to Finland for

many years. Further details about

our winter packages can be found

in the Porsche Driving Experience

winter catalogue which is available

separately.

Take to the driver’s seat. Enter the

wonderful world of performance

driving. We hope you get off to a

good start. If you have any ques-

tions, our project managers will

be pleased to offer professional

assistance based on their wealth

of experience.

Porsche Sport Driving School | Our Philosophy 1110

You might not fancy the thought

of going back to school. But what

if you could swap your pencil for

a gear lever and take things at your

own pace?

Since 1974, the Porsche Sport

Driving School has had one clear

aim: to improve your driving skills

on an ongoing basis, enabling you

to drive more safely in hazardous

situations and, of course, enhance

your enjoyment – behind the wheel

of a Porsche.

We offer training on a number

of racetracks in various countries

around the world, all of which

comply with the same high stand-

ards. This gives you the advantage

of being able to choose between

the training courses provided

by the respective Porsche Sport

Driving Schools at any time.

There are many different venues

where you can become acquainted

with the principles of track driving.

As with any comprehensive

training, our courses also

include in-depth theory sessions.

Ultimately, however, we believe

that learning by doing is the key

to success: from the important

basics to almost professional

driving skills. Whether you do this

on tarmac or on snow and ice is

entirely up to you.

All of our courses are clearly

structured and build on knowledge

from the previous level so that you

can finely hone your driving style

Most people can’t wait to finish school. Here’s one you’ll be sad to leave.

step by step. Our instructors

are on hand throughout to provide

professional tips and advice.

In addition to the training levels,

our programme also includes

some special courses. The g-Force

Training, for example, deals with

topics such as controlled drift,

while our Classic Cars training

takes you back to the very origins

of driving a Porsche. If you

want to practise driving a high-

performance vehicle on the

track, our Super Sport training

is perfect for you. We also have

a driver training course designed

exclusively for women.

You can either complete the

training in your own vehicle,

regardless of its make, or in one

of the Porsche training vehicles

available for hire. You can also

choose which venue you wish to

attend for one of our courses –

a famous international racetrack,

one of our dedicated safety

driving centres or one of our spe-

cial winter training venues where

you can practise driving on snow

and ice.

The only question that remains

is what level of local support you

require. Here too, we do our

utmost to ensure that you enjoy

the same high standards wherever

you are in the world. After all, we

want you to have an unforgettable

experience even when you are

away from the wheel.

In short: we take participants on a

school outing with a difference –

for the opportunity to train with the

best in class.

Our Philosophy

Page 7: Porsche Sport Driving School 201 · training, our courses also include in-depth theory sessions. Ultimately, however, we believe that learning by doing is the key to success: from

Racing experts with Porsche in their blood.

Porsche Sport Driving School instructors.

Ongoing development is one of

the main driving forces at Porsche.

And of course this applies to the

racetrack, too. This is why it is such

a pleasure to tackle it in a Porsche.

Assisted by our instructors, you

can hone your skills and learn how

to exploit the potential of your

vehicle safely. Whichever course

you choose, from Warm-up to

Master or even one of our special

training sessions, one thing remains

the same: the high quality of the

training provided by our instructors.

Instructors

Who better to show you the limits

of your Porsche than the people

who develop, test and drive these

vehicles every day – or even

race them. These include our test

drivers and engineers who are

responsible for the fine tuning of

new models and safeguarding

our quality standards. They are

among those lucky people whose

hobby has become their profes-

sion. Every spare minute is spent

on the racetrack.

Their aim in passing on their

knowledge and driving skills to

you is not based on professional

reasons alone, but also on a

passion – the perfect prerequisite

to help you master your vehicle

even better and to enjoy it as well.

For sports drivers it is absolutely

essential to judge situations

correctly and be able to react

accordingly. Our intensive super-

vision scheme ensures that you

receive the attention you expect

from our instructors.

It’s not only on the circuit where

you’ll notice that you’re dealing

with experts who have turned their

passion into a profession, but also

in the breaks and when taking

lunch together. Their enthusiasm

for Porsche and every technical

detail of the vehicles is contagious.

So don’t be surprised if you ask a

question about the aerodynamics

of your Porsche and find yourself

listening to a potted lecture.

During the training course, our

instructors are devoted entirely

to you. Each section is preceded

by instructions from the special-

ists and while you are busy per-

fecting your driving skills, each

and every one of your exercises

is being monitored. This not only

guarantees your safety, but also

optimum learning achievement.

The instructors are either with

you inside the car or giving you

helpful advice by radio from the

escort vehicle. At the end of the

section, they will sit down with

you and analyse your driving style.

For even more exclusivity, we can

provide you with your very own

personal instructor. Details of how

to request this service and further

information can be found in the

section about ‘Additional Services’

on page 44.

20 Porsche Sport Driving School | Warm-up 21

The Warm-up training is a course

for first time participants and

customers who want to refresh

their knowledge about the basics

of mastering a vehicle. These

practice sessions take place at

dedicated safety driving centres

or on the racetrack. Training

is not against the clock with a

view to setting lap records –

instead, the locations provide a

safe environment for simulating

hazardous situations you may

face in everyday traffic.

After learning to find your ideal

seat and steering wheel position,

as well as correct vision control,

you’re ready to tackle the various

sections. These include how

to brake effectively and avoid

sudden obstacles in the road.

The training also covers control-

ling oversteer and understeer

and how to skilfully react to load

changes.

On a circuit, you will learn the

optimum way to approach and

negotiate bends. Porsche instruct-

ors will then familiarise you with

the basic laws of physics relating

to driving and vehicle handling.

The course also covers various

Porsche electronic driving aids

and how these should be used

correctly.

Naturally, our instructors are

on hand to examine how you are

progressing in each section.

And, of course, the fun side of

driving is not forgotten either.

Warm-up Precision Performance Master

Page 12: Porsche Sport Driving School 201 · training, our courses also include in-depth theory sessions. Ultimately, however, we believe that learning by doing is the key to success: from

Onroad

Our two day Precision training is

the ideal opportunity to explore

the basics of performance driving.

You can also choose this as

your introductory course at the

Porsche Sport Driving School.

This is why, in addition to an indi-

vidual driving style assessment,

the course also includes detailed

and thorough coverage of the

basics. However, in comparison

to the Warm-up course, the

programme on the second day

of training includes an appealing

module where drivers can

complete full laps of the circuit.

The first day of training focuses

on how to handle the vehicle

and respond correctly in hazard-

ous situations. Under expert

instruction, you will learn how

to approach and tackle bends

accurately. At the same time,

attention is paid to the potential

dangers of everyday road traffic.

Other particularly important

factors here are learning to

estimate speed and being able to

react quickly. You will practise

taking evasive action and experi-

ence the effect that even slight

differences in speed can have on

the intensity of load changes.

You will gradually simulate driving

conditions in which the vehicle

threatens to oversteer. You will

also learn how to maintain control

in even the most demanding

situations.

On the second day, you will have

the opportunity to experience

the thrills of the circuit first hand,

with plenty of time for practising

the basic requirements for safely

negotiating a bend – accurate

steering, skilful braking and

careful acceleration.

We also offer this training as

a special course reserved

exclusively for women entitled

‘Women Only’. Further details

If Precision has given you renewed

driving ambitions and you want

to spend as much time as possible

in the driver’s seat, it’s time to

discover the next stage in Perform-

ance. This two day course is for

advanced participants who have

already completed the Pre cision

level. This driving safety course

mainly concentrates on further

improving your vehicle control.

Participants should possess

certain basic knowledge, such

as how to find the most suitable

seat position, develop optimum

vision control and respond cor-

rectly when the vehicle threatens

to oversteer. In addition to a

theory session geared towards

performance driving, the first

day includes a chance to familiar-

ise yourself with the respective

sequence of bends and find the

optimum line. The choice of

sections that focus on specific

driving skills, lap after lap, is

aimed at further improving your

command of the vehicle.

Accurate and effective braking

when entering a corner and

avoiding unnecessary steering

inputs are primarily a question

of practice. One of the main

on-road training modules is

lapping, which is given further

attention during this course.

Here, you have an opportunity

to finely hone your skills over

the entire circuit.

The theory sessions cover

of our Master training at Porsche

coach shows you the exercises

that will help prepare you for the

attention is also given to safe

overtaking manoeuvres and

performing ‘standing’ and ‘flying’

To maximise learning, at the

training courses in Leipzig, for

Instructors from the world of

style assessment, it also includes

detailed and thorough coverage of

the basics.

The first day of training focuses

on how to handle the vehicle and

respond correctly in hazardous

situations. Various sections are

used to simulate the potential

dangers of everyday road traffic.

Particularly important factors here

include recognising in advance

the effects of driving dynamics,

learning how to estimate speed

and being able to react quickly

and automatically.

Out on the circuit, you will learn

how to improve your driving

safety. This is particularly true on

the second day when completing

full laps of the circuit, with or

without an instructor as a guide.

You will also hone your driving

skills and master new challenges,

step by step, assisted through-

out by our highly experienced

instructors. So, once again:

Does your vehicle have an elec-

tronic stability programme? On the

two day g-Force Training, you

discover how to safely transfer the

power and dynamics of your

vehicle to the road – with no inter-

vention from electronic aids.

In the theory session, you learn

the physical principles of dynamic

cornering and how to regain

control if the car threatens to

oversteer. You then get to put

what you have learned into

practice out on the track. Guided

by our experienced instructors,

you will be introduced to the high

art of vehicle control, drift after

drift.

Whether you wish to simply opti-

mise your command of the vehicle

and learn how to avoid oversteer

or to perfect your controlled drift

throughout a sequence of bends,

both demand a precise interplay

of steering, accelerating and

braking. In other words: practice,

practice, and yet more practice.

In a series of sections, you there-

fore focus on specific driving

skills in order to further improve

your vehicle control.

You learn how to use and perfect

the load-changing reactions for

dynamic driving, thereby maintain-

ing control in any scenario. The

second day of the course offers

plenty of opportunity to complete

full laps of the circuit, enabling

you to practise extensively in

certain sections and perfect your

is perfect for ambitious sportscar

drivers, ideally those who have

already gained experience from

training courses at the Porsche

Sport Driving School, the world of

motorsport or other driver safety

training.

Under the guidance of experienced

racing instructors, you will

learn how to steer correctly when

cornering and how to use the

accelerator and brake pedal to

optimum effect. Lap after lap,

in accordance with the individual

course and your particular vehicle

model.

To ensure optimum vehicle stabil-

ity and performance during circuit

driving, you should adapt your

driving style to make it as clean

as possible. These principles are

therefore covered in as much

detail as possible by the theory

session and during circuit driving.

In addition to the technical

performance of the vehicle and

advanced vehicle control tech-

niques, the physical constitution

of the driver is an important

factor on the road to success.

This training course therefore

also deals with the ‘Porsche

Onroad training circuit.

The Porsche circuit in Leipzig

is a very special experience, as it

features 10 spectacular sequences

inspired by some of the world’s

most challenging corners. Within a

matter of seconds you will start to

discover the thrill of driving through

sections reminiscent of legendary

circuits where racing history has

been written. The first bend, based

on the S Curve at Suzuka, requires

the highest levels of concentration,

while the next right-hand corner

generates the same lateral accel-

eration you’d experience in the

Sunset Bend at Sebring. The

following section is modelled on

the difficult Loews curve at

Monaco. Then it’s time to master

another hairpin bend similar to

the Victoria Turn, before taking the

racing line through the Mobil 1 S

chicane as if you were at the Nür-

burgring. After the corner reminis-

cent of the Curve di Lesmo, you’ll

accelerate out of the tough left/

right sequence as if you were at the

Bus Stop at Spa-Francorchamps.

After a curve based on the Suntory

Corner, you’ll find yourself on the

finishing straight ready to start

the next lap with a 10-metre high

serpentine, followed by a steep

chicane similar to the Corkscrew

at Laguna Seca. Alternatively,

you can take the 180-degree

bend modelled on the Parabolica

at Monza.

While featuring sections based on

some of the world’s most historic

corners, the rest of the Porsche

circuit in Leipzig is extremely

modern. It boasts state-of-the-art

Porsche Driving Experience Partners

A basic Porsche principle:maximum performance can only be achieved as a team.

MichelinPorsche and Michelin look back on

a longstanding and successful

partnership. Through its pioneering

developments in the field of high-

performance tyres, Michelin is con-

tributing to Porsche being able to

meet its customer requirements.

Every Porsche is guaranteed to have

superb handling characteristics.

This is due in no small part to the

fact that specific tyres are manu-

factured for each individual model.

The main link between the car and

the road, the tyre is designed at an

early stage in the vehicle develop-

ment process. Michelin currently

supplies racing tyres for the

911 GT3 Cup racecars competing

in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup

and the international Porsche

Carrera Cup series, as well as the

911 GT3 RSR and 911 GT3 R

racing in various national and inter-

national GT championships, and

the Porsche sportscars used in

the Porsche Sports Cup Germany.

Porsche trusts in the quality of

Michelin tyres, both on the road

and track.

Mobil 1Porsche and Mobil 1 stand for

innovative developments, high-

quality engineering and advanced

technology. The partnership

between both companies was

formed in 1996 and has culminated

in a number of impressive wins on

the racetrack, demonstrating the

performance and protection that

Mobil 1 provides. For Mobil 1,

the racetrack is an ideal environ-

ment for developing and testing

its new technologies. All the 911

GT3 Cup racecars competing

in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup

and the international Porsche

Carrera Cup series, as well as all

other Porsche racecars, use

the very latest Mobil 1 based on

the innovative Mobil SHC synthesis

technology. Furthermore, every

single Porsche is filled with Mobil 1

at manufacture.

Protecting the environment in the most direct and efficient way.

Alongside outstanding driving

dynamics, safety and quality,

one of the key objectives in our

vehicle development process is

environmental compatibility. At

Porsche, the responsible use of

raw materials has always been

high on our list of specifications

for each and every model.

It is also a critical factor in terms

of ensuring that our cars continue

to secure racing victories. After

all, only those who are able to

manage their resources carefully

can achieve long-term success.

Porsche engineers are continually

developing the lightweight

construction and reducing fuel

consumption by making engines

more efficient.

This is demonstrated by a convin-

c ing example on the track: since

2010, the Porsche GT3 R Hybrid

has shown that the future of

motorsport is inextricably linked

to the future of our environment.

On the road, the Panamera S

Hybrid and Cayenne S Hybrid

provide clear evidence of our

dedication to environmental com-

patibility – and driving pleasure

– in series production.

Vision and knowledge of the avail-

able options play as important a

role in this respect as they do in

terms of driving safety. Drive with

foresight and avoid unnecessary

acceleration phases and subse-

quent braking manoeuvres. Also

avoid short spurts of acceleration,

maintaining a consistent speed

throughout your journey to reduce

fuel consumption.

innovations on your vehicle such

as Porsche VarioCam Plus or

ively, without detracting from the

overall driving experience.

Eco-friendly Driving

the benefit of the environment

– while still enjoying the perform-

ance of your Porsche to the full.

Discover how to achieve the best

engine efficiency by selecting the

correct engine speed and pedal

position. The optimum flexibility of

Porsche engines enables you to

accelerate in high gear and to use

high gears even when you are

driving at constant or low speeds.

This significantly reduces the revs

per minute and fuel consumption.

We therefore advise you to take

advantage of the engine’s braking

power by downshifting when

braking. The deceleration fuel

cut-off on your Porsche engine will

then reduce the fuel supply to

zero. This enables you to drive in a

more foresighted and efficient way.

You’ll learn these and many more

tips at the Porsche Sport Driving

School, and our courses will also

show you how to put these into prac-

tice for a safer, more exhilarating

and eco-friendly driving experience.

Many people dream of getting a glimpse behind the scenes at Porsche. We take you on an exclusive tour backstage.

A Porsche is no ordinary vehicle.

A Porsche is a living legend. And

this starts before it even sees the

light of day. With the Porsche

Travel Club, visit sites such as the

Porsche Museum in Stuttgart-

Zuffenhausen or the Porsche com-

into the world of Porsche.

Take a journey through the capti-

vating history of the Porsche

marque at the Porsche Museum in

Stuttgart. The dynamic nature of

the marque is superbly demon-

strated by the building’s striking

architecture. The vehicles on

display within the museum clearly

reflect the values for which

Porsche typically stands: endur-

ance, a sense of tradition and,

above all, the spirit of innovation.

However, to really appreciate a

Porsche sportscar, you need to

take to the driver’s seat yourself.

During the second part of the

day, you have the opportunity to

test drive various Porsche models

– on meandering country roads,

360-degree panoramic views of

the site, a restaurant, an exhibition

of the latest Porsche models

and an extensive calendar of

events. The exclusive programme

ranges from a factory tour and

culinary highlights to a thrilling

driving event – either as a co-pilot

or in the driver’s seat. Porsche

Leipzig is also the starting point

for a number of individual Porsche

Travel Club tours.

In addition, the Porsche Travel

Club can provide you with tickets

to fascinating racing events

such as the 2012 Porsche Mobil 1

Porsche and airtours share the

airtours has worked globally for
