TERM 1 Week 5
Geraldine brought some plants. We have to water them so they grow. We are going to plant them at the beach. It was fun!
On Thursday Alison brought some visitors to the class. They were from South Africa and England. They talked about the time difference.
They had different shoes. The South African had a deep voice. They were good.

Principal’s Message
Welcome to Week 5!
We welcome back Alison after her time off to spend with her family from overseas.
Last week the students loved the opportunity to interact with Alison’s family from
South Africa and England. They formulated interesting questions and enjoyed
learning more about what life is like in England and South Africa. We really
appreciated the visit and look forward to keeping in contact.
Excursion to Port Lincoln
The students enjoyed our excursion to Port Lincoln to see the Queen’s Baton Relay
and to visit the Junior Primary School. Many thanks to Louise and Eloise for
transporting students and helping out on the day. It also happened to be Mr Reece’s
birthday so what better way to celebrate than a day out in Port Lincoln!
Landcare Visit
Last Friday Geraldine Turner and Rachel Kannussar visited the school to speak to
the students about coastal erosion and the importance of revegetating the local
foreshore. The students then helped sort the seedlings which will be cared for at the
school until they are ready to be planted out around May/June.

Library News
Dear Parents/Caregiver,
Welcome back to a new school and another year of the Premier’s Reading Challenge.
Premier’s Reading Challenge Guidelines
The students are challenged to read 12 books from the beginning of term 1 until the 1st September 2018.
For Reception – Year 6 students, at least 8 of the 12 books will be chosen from the PRC’s booklist at the appropriate year level. A maximum of 4 books can be the student’s own choice and should be of similar standard to books on the list. The books should be at an appropriate literacy level for each student. (The books are labelled to make choosing
easy)
Students can read books from the booklist for their year level and from booklists for year levels above their own.
Guidance may be required for students in their choice of titles from booklists for older students.
Students should choose titles which are both appropriate and challenging for the individual. For some students this
may mean reading from a list below their year level.
Students will record the titles and authors of the books they read on the appropriate Premier’s Student Reading Record Sheet. This sheet must be kept in their ‘Home Packs’ for easy access or at home.
Teachers, staff or parents, must sign each entry on the Premier’s Student Reading Record. This indicates that a student has read (or shared in the reading of) a book at an appropriate literacy level and that the title of the book and
author are accurate.
Each library lesson the students will borrow some Premier’s Reading Challenge books to take home to read. Four of the students take home readers and novels can also be entered on their Premier’s Student Reading Record Sheet as these can be considered the student’s own choice books. When you listen to your child read a Premier’s Reading Challenge book it must also be written in your child’s take home reading record book as well as the official Student
Reading Record Sheet.
Please keep the record sheet home until complete. When complete please drop it in at the front desk.
Awards will be sent to schools in the 4th term for the students who complete the challenge.
Thank you
Peta & Reece
