Port Phillip and Western Port
Destination Swing Moorings Parks Victoria offers eighteen swing moorings for public use as a short-term destination by
recreational boating enthusiasts visiting Port Phillip and Western Port. The moorings have
been designed to reduce environmental impact and provide convenient access. How To Access A Destination Mooring There are 11 moorings in 4 locations across Port Phillip and 7 moorings across 2 locations in Western Port; all are identifiable by large orange buoys.
All destination swing moorings have a maximum vessel size limit of 14 metres, with the exception of 2 moorings at Sorrento able to accommodate a vessel up to 20 metres in length.
Destination swing moorings operate on a first-come, first-served basis. They cannot be booked.
Upon arriving at your chosen location, you should abide by the vessel size limits which are clearly displayed on each mooring.
Once moored, please for your safety call the Parks Victoria Information Centre on 13 1963 to advise your vessel and contact details.
Destination moorings are restricted to short-term (overnight) lengths of stay.
Parks Victoria cannot guarantee exclusive use during your intended stay if you move your vessel from the mooring.
A Better Environmental Mooring The design of conventional swing moorings can lead to damage of the marine environment. The chains connecting the ground weight to the buoy drag along the seabed as the vessel moves about as a result of wind and tidal influences and destroy the marine life and vegetation underneath.
How the moorings work The environmentally-friendly destination swing moorings protect the marine environment from the effects of anchor damage by keeping all mooring components off the sea bed at all times.
The seasonal moorings feature a screw pin which is embedded into the seabed. A 360o swivel connection is attached to the anchor point with a floating UV resistant rope leading to the top float.
