The holiday season is here, Christmas is close and 2020 is around the corner! It’s a great time to peruse the Newsletter and try something new next year. The last page of the Newsletter has a neat summary of events and is a good one to stick on the fridge for easy reference. The full year’s programs for the theatre nights at Malvern and Brighton are listed. It’s well worth considering joining the groups and gaining a discount!
Networking, socialising and making new friends are easy to do by going along to Murray’s dine-outs, Rosie’s coffee mornings and Gillian’s lunches. And for those New Year resolutions around fitness the walking groups and badminton may suit you.
It’s all yours for the taking!
Welcome new members

Snapshot from our Secretary
Greetings from PPLAC Committee.
Sunny days are here and the Festive
Season is fast approaching.
The Committee hopes that all of our
Members enjoy a really happy and fun-
filled three months.
Our Christmas Luncheon was
celebrated on Wednesday 11
December. This special event was
attended by more than 50 Members and
we must thank our very special Guest
Father Christmas, sometimes known as
Tugo, for his enthusiastic participation.
Again, thank you to the Committee for
helping to subsidise this event.
The Archibald outing was also very
successful and we hope that you mark
in your Calendar for 2020 that there
will be an Archibald excursion in
October.
Another date to note is the afternoon of
Sunday 15 March for our annual
outdoor activity. Arrangements are
developing and final details will be
available in the new year. I’ll keep you
posted.
Phyllis Mason has temporarily taken on
the role of forwarding photos and items
to our Webmaster. Thank you very
much Phyl for adding this to your long
list of commitments to PPLAC.
Thank you also to the Convenors who
give an enormous amount of time in
making their varied activities special
for all of us. They’re the backbone of
any club that is based around activities.
We are hoping that a PPLAC member
or members would like to take on the
role of Webmaster. Lynda Bourne has
assured us that she is very willing to
help the new Webmaster with the
current set-up. Please consider the role
we have vacant. There is absolutely no
necessity for the Webmaster to join the
Committee. Nor is there any need to
attend any meetings. The role would be
autonomous and would be of enormous
benefit to PPLAC. Please contact any
Committee Member to express your
interest.
Once again, enjoy this
Festive Season and have a
very safe and happy
Summer.
Cheers for now,
Susan Drew

own risk. The trips and activities are organised for mobile people. These may include
such activities as climbing up and down stairs and walking around outdoors. If members
have mobility restrictions, they should discuss these with the Convenor of the activity or
trip.

Out and about
PPLAC members enjoyed a great day out on Tuesday 29 October when they visited
TarraWarra Gallery near Healesville. They went to see the finalists from this year’s Archibald
Portrait competition. They all had their own opinion of course as to agreement or not with
the judges, but more supported the final winner than in previous years! They then
adjourned to The Grand Hotel in Healesville for lunch, a bit of retail therapy and the journey
back to Melbourne. Thanks to the City of Port Phillip for providing a bus for the day.
New one-off activity
PUNT / WALK / WILLIAMSTOWN
Sunday 9 February 9am
Phil Savage will lead a walk on Sunday 9 February. You’re invited to meet at 9am at
the Westgate Punt, Lorimer Street, Port Melbourne. The punt, costing $5 each way,
travels under the Westgate Bridge and takes you to Spotswood, from where a 3 km
walk will place you at a coffee shop in historic Williamstown. Along the way, you’ll
see many old and beautiful homes on the Strand, pass the yacht clubs and black
swans, and look back across to the city, seeing the international container ships
which dock in Melbourne.
