Journey Thourgh Universe I The exhibition “Journey Across the Universe I” marks a beginning in the quest for
the universe and indicates that humankind’s journey will continue onwards with dark matter, black holes, multi universe and cosmology’s newest findings… The artist interprets this quest by using scientific research and observations as reference points. Hubble Space Telescope is one of the most creative and productive scientific instruments developed by men. It compiles the images and data obtained from its observations and transmits these to Earth. The findings by Hubble’s observations have placed it beyond the field of Astronomy and made it an icon of science. Hubble telescope is essential to determine the age and the size of the universe. We discover the universe through the eyes of Hubble and we can witness the most dangerous, extraordinary and mysterious depths of the cosmos. As we celebrate 26th anniversary of Hubble Telescope’s launch, once again we realize the opportunities it provides for us…
If we go on an interstellar journey in the Milky Way, in the depths of the space, among the astronomical objects we will encounter births of the stars and Nebulas. Nebulas are star formation clusters created by young stars. They are made of clouds of dust and gas. These gas clouds emit light thanks to the stars. They achieve their brightest states like Orion and Eta Carina Nebulas. Nebulas, which consist of star cloud dust, Helium, Hydrogen and other ionized gasses, generate the most sublime riot of colors visible in the universe. These images, which were created by examining hundreds of striking photographs, show us the unknown and mysterious side of the cosmos. Thus, our journey across the universe that started in our solar system and reached out to the Nebulas, is evidenced by Hubble’s photographs of the observed stars. In my paintings, I set out with Hubble’s observations and attempts to catch the glimpses of the evolution of astronomical objects. In her work, she establishes a connection between the unique aesthetic of space and the facts of the scientific research. Textured surfaces of her paintings, which were created by her use of different materials such as linen fibers and soil, resemble the permeable and layered structure of deep space. I expect to evoke an awareness in the audience regarding today’s astronomical discoveries. The exhibition was opened at Galeri Bohem in Istanbul; for three weeks, 10th June to 30rd June.
