Kandla port trust

• IT IS SITUATED AT 23 01' N LATTITUDE & 070 13' E LONGTITUDE

• LOCATED ON THE NW COAST, IN THE KANDLA CREEK,90KM FROM GULF OF KUTCH

• FOR THE THIRD YEAR RUNNING KANDLA PORT HAS BEEN EMERGED AS THE TOP PORT OF THE COUNTRY

• THEY HANDLED 79 MILLION TONNES OF CARGO DURING 2009-10

• This self-sufficient port is one of the highest-earning ports in the country

• The Port of Mumbai was the biggest cotton market in India, with many spinning and weaving mills located there

• The Port of Mumbai is also the gateway for more than half of India's sea-going passengers and an important cargo-handling seaport

• In the 2007-2008 shipping year, the Port of Mumbai handled a total of over 57 million tons of cargo, including 32.4 million tons of imports and 24.7 million tons of exports

• Imported cargoes through the Port of Mumbai were dominated by crude oil (12.7 million tons), stream cargo (6.4 million tons), miscellaneous cargoes (4.2 million tons), POL products (3.4 million tons), and iron and steel (2.8 million tons). Other imports included bulk chemicals, containers, edible oils, rock phosphate, fertilizers, and sulfur. Containerized imports of 627.3 thousand tons were in 71.7 thousand TEUs

• Port of Mumbai export cargoes were dominated by crude oil (13.7 million tons), POL products (7.2 million tons), iron and steel (1.3 million tons), containers (886 thousand tons), miscellaneous cargoes (647 thousand tons), sugar (587 thousand tons), and bulk chemicals (102 thousand tons). Other exports included molasses, oil cakes, edible oil, and food grains. Containerized exports of 763.4 thousand tons were in 45.8 thousand TEUs

• JNPT is the second youngest port after Ennore. It is located at the eastern end of Mumbai in the Nhava Sheva area and situated at latitude 18º 56’ 43” N and longitude 72º56’ 24” E.

• Current designed channel depth of JNPT is 11 meters and depth at berths is 13.5 meters. JNPT can take in vessels having laden draft up to 12.5 metres.The width of the channel is 400 metres at entry point and 460 metres off the berths.

• Port cargo handling facilities include container terminals, a liquid handling terminal and a shallow water berth which can handle break-bulk and container traffic both.

• The Port of Nhava Sheva handles a wide range of exports that include textile-related products like embroidery machines, knitted t-shirts, cotton shirts, carpets, and sporting goods.

• The Port of Nhava Sheva imports chemicals, plastics, machinery, aluminum and other non-ferrous metals, and vegetable oils.

COCHIN PORT TRUST

• Situated in 09 58' N latitude & 076 15' E longtitude• The modern port was established in 1926 and

completed 86 years of active service. • The port is currently building India's first

International Container Transshipment Terminal on Build-Operate-Transfer basis with Dubai Ports World, in the island of Vallarpadam , north of Willingdon Island.

• It has 9 berths in ernakulam wharf & 4 berths in mattenchery

• A draft of 38 ft is maintained in the Ernakulam channel along with berthing facilities, which enables the Port to bring in larger vessels to the Port. In the Mattancherry channel a draft of 30 ft.

• There is an efficient network of railways, roads, waterways and airways, connecting the Port with the hinterland centers spread over the State of Kerala, Tamilnadu and Karnataka.

Haldia (KOLKATA)

• Situated in 22 02' N latitude & 088 06' E longtitude

• Haldia is being developed as a major trade port for Calcutta(Kolkata), intended mainly for bulk cargoes

• This is a sea port & the size of the port is medium

• Tankers: 150,000 d.w.t., LOA 250 m., draft 12.2 m.

PARADIP PORT TRUST

• Situated in 20 16' N latitude & 086 41' E longtitude

• Government of India declared Paradip as the Eighth Major Port of India

• on 18th April 1966 making it the FIRST MAJOR PORT in the East Coast after independence

• The Port operations are carried out round the clock 365 days

ENNORE

• Latitude: 13° 15' 48" NLongitude: 80° 20' 28" E• Ennore port is situated on the coromandal

coast about 24km north of Chennai Port along the coast line, in the State of Tamil Nadu.

• It is the 12th Major Port in India and the first Corporatized Major Port in India

• On July 11, 1974,Tuticorin Port was declared as the 10th major port

• The Port of Tuticorin, also known as “Pearl City”• The Port of Tuticorin’s economy depends on

shipping, agricultural activities, salt pans, and fishing
