Position: Part-time foreign language teachers at various levels Spanish, French or American Sign Language School: Lower and Upper School Age Level: 4 – 14 years of age Curriculum: Curriculum will need to be developed and taught at various levels: Lower level (4 –10 years of age, K - 4 th grade equivalent), and at the upper school level (10 – 14 years of age, 5 th – 8 th grade equivalent). 4 – 8 years of age, the focus in foreign language should be on socialization (playing together, hanging out, signing songs, hand gestures, group work, etc.). 8 – 10 years of age (3 rd and 4 th grade equivalent), socialization is also a focal point as well as technology and vocabulary building. Students are aiding in the creation of content by using apps such as Aurasma. 10 – 14 years of age (5 th – 8 th grade equivalent), the focus is on communication and correct form. Teacher responsibilities 1. Plan, prepare and deliver lesson plans / instructional materials that facilitate active learning for gifted learners. Ability to create strong, differentiated lesson plans with clear objectives and standards. 2. Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment. 3. Maintain discipline and accountability in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of the school. 5. Monitor the progress of individual students and use the data to adjust teaching strategies and pacing (assessment drives instruction). 6. Observe, evaluate, and consistently communicate appropriately a student's performance and development (whether or not such performance is associated with a grade) while maintaining accurate and complete records of a student’s progress and development, both academically and socially/emotionally. 7. Have a clear working knowledge of developmental academic milestones for the age span you are teaching. 8. Communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues, administration and parents regarding a child’s progress and needs. 9. Assign and grade class work, homework, tests and assignments, when necessary. Update weekly announcements and grades, if necessary, to RenWeb (school-approved communication tool). 10. Complete, in a timely fashion, student evaluations (report cards) at the end of each quarter (4 times a year) according to standards set by the Employer. 11. Incorporate a heuristic approach to teaching that requires you to collaborate with others and consistently be reflexive on your own teaching practice. 13. Follow the personalized student plan for each child and adhere to the accommodations and interventions listed. 14. Collaboration with other levels (if you are not teaching across all grade levels) to align the scope and sequence is necessary for continuity and program development. Gifted and talented requirements

1. An understanding of social emotional learning, asynchronous development and perfectionism, specifically how it manifests in gifted children, as well as a willingness to learn and adapt teaching methods in order to successfully educate this population.

2. Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures that align with the SEL of gifted students. Familiarity and competence with strategies and interventions used to work with 2e students.

Preferred skills, but not required

• MAC or PC proficient • Knowledge of the Nurtured Heart Approach, TRIBES, and/or Love and Logic • RenWeb

Work Hours

• Student hours are 8:15AM – 3:30PM • Employee hours vary depending on when foreign language classes are slotted on the

schedule. Physical Demands The employee regularly stands and walks throughout the day. The employee should be able to lift and move materials under 25 pounds.

Qualifications Education and Experience

Education Bachelor's Degree in your area of teaching or in Education. Higher degrees are preferred, but not required.

Years of Experience

Minimum 2 years classroom teaching experience required. Previous experience with gifted learners is strongly preferred. Combination of education and experience may substitute for years of experience.

Certifications & Endorsements

A teacher certification and gifted and talented endorsement preferred, but not required.
