Post 11 Centre

Another action packed year comes to a close

and we must now say goodbye to our Post 11

school leavers.

Best wishes to Daniel, Lee, Jordan, Aaran, Jimmy,

Harvey, Ellliot and last but by no means least

Sophie.

Our celebration assembly will be held on Thursday

14th July at 1pm, all parents/carers are welcome

to attend. Refreshments will follow the assembly.

Sports Day will be held outside on our field on Friday afternoon 15th July at 1pm.

All welcome.

School will break up at lunchtime on Wednesday 20th July (non- uniform day)

and will resume for students on Tuesday 6th September, 2016.

Have a lovely summer break and thank you for your support throughout the year.

FRIENDS OF JARROW AUTISTIC CENTRE

As you may be aware, staff, parents/carers/grandparents of the students from

Post 11 Centre formed a charity … Friends of Jarrow Autistic Centre...many years

ago which have helped over the years to raise funds for the benefit of Post 11

students. In the past, the money raised has helped to fund trips to Thurston,

Eurodisney, Kielder, Keswick several summer schemes, a minibus and other trips

and events which help students gain independence and develop their social

skills. New volunteers are now desperately needed to ensure that this support

group continues. If you are interested and can help — please get in touch. We

would love to hear from you!

POST 11 NEWS

We are sorry to lose five members of staff at the end of this academic year….

Andrew, Chris, Elaine, George and Paul. Together, they have given many years

of service to the centre and we wish them all the very best in the future.

Karen Booth will be managing the centre from September.

BRINGING SHAKESPEARE TO LIFE

North East library authorities have worked with local artists and community

groups on an exciting project to bring Shakespeare to life. Each group has

created a visual representation of a Shakespeare play which will be displayed

around the region throughout the summer.

Post 11 students have worked with this project in June and exhibited their work in

the library in July…… thanks to all parents, carers and grandparents who came

to the library to see the finished work. The work is now proudly displayed on the

entrance to Post 11 within the school.

SOCIAL SKILLS GROUP

I sourced £10,000 to support a structured programme of activities that would promote

our young people's social engagement in a wider range of leisure activities whilst

developing their communication and social skills.

The children had shown huge interest in

horse riding when we were at Keswick

earlier in the year so this activity was

chosen after consulting with the students

when we returned from our

residential. The sessions have gone very

positively to date and have included a

mix of riding, stable management and

horse care.
