Programme Aims
• To build on the foundations of professional nursing and
midwifery knowledge already developed in the
undergraduate nursing and midwifery programmes
• To facilitate the development of knowledge and clinical
abilities which supports the early career development of the
nurse/midwife
• To nurture the development of leadership skills and
competence, with reference to the Department of Health and
Health Services Executive (HSE) and DOH strategic
planning

Contemporary Issues in Nursing/Midwifery: Clinical Governance, Safety and Risk Management
Module Description:
This module aims to provide students with the opportunity to critically explore the changes occurring within
contemporary Irish healthcare and to examine the implications and influences on their area of practice and
on quality and patient safety.
Module Assessment & Award:
Multiple Choice Question Examination. 10 Level 9 ECTS Credits upon successful completion of the module.
