Post-Service Blog

Overview:

Post-service blogging provides an opportunity for you to collectively gather your posts

from over the semester and make connections between your experiences. A focused lens on

power and privilege enables you to consider your own power and privilege and how it interacts

within the world around you.

In addition to providing closure of your experience, this post-service blog will provide a

space for you to explore what this service has taught you about power and privilege moving

forward in your future service and professional endeavors.

During this blogging exercise, you will be able to:

Describe their experiences with power and privilege using imagery words

Articulate experiences after their service-learning experience in relation to power and

privilege

Apply experiences of power and privilege to other areas outside of service-learning

Post- Service Discussion

Overview:

A post-service discussion allows for your reflection to be shared with others. In addition,

the reflection and comments from your classmates allow you to compare and contrast your

experience with theirs. This helps you further define power and privilege and how they operate

in your daily life.

Keep in mind that each one of your classmates comes to the conversation with

different experiences. A conversation on power and privilege is meant to be challenging as they

function as a challenge within our greater society. Please be respectful when commenting and

replying to your classmates. These discussions are meant to benefit each of you as they provide

a safe space to participate in mindful conversation.

In this discussion you will:

Articulate what power and privilege mean to you

Relate your definition to your classmates’ definition

Identify similarities and differences in your definition of power and privilege in relation

to your classmates

Reflect on constant change within personal definition of power and privilege

Discussion Directions:

Choose two words that relate to your personal definition of power and privilege. Write a

description of each of these words and how they relate to power or privilege within your

learning experience.

Then, take one of your classmates’ words and compare and contrast it within your

definition of power and privilege. Are your words similar? How is their approach different than

yours? In what way do you see your definition change as you continue to notice privilege and

power in other areas of your life?
