John Ap Ph.D. (Texas A&M) is a Professor in Tourism Management. His primary priority

with research & publications is quality not quantity & he is internationally known for his

research & publications on tourism impacts. Prof. Ap started his academic career at HK

PolyU having spent 21 years there. Before joining IFTM in 2016, he worked at Stenden

University Qatar and prior to becoming an academic, he worked 11½ years as a town

Prof. Chan received cross-disciplinary education in the areas of geography, accounting,

hotel management and hotel facilities based engineering. Thus he has conducted a wide

indoor air quality, benchmarking hotel HVAC systems, sustainability, silver hair tourism or

Brief Bio:

Leonardo A.N. Dioko, Ph.D., or Don to many, is Professor at the Macao Institute for Tourism

Studies (IFTM) and Director of IFTM’s Tourism Research Center (itrc.IFTM.edu.mo),

which conducts research studies about Macao’s tourism development, trends, and relevant

social issues. Chief of these are research projects commissioned by the Macao S.A.R.

Government, especially those relating to Macao’s tourism carrying capacity and studies with

policy implications. In addition to public policy research, Don’s scholarly work cover

destination branding and tourism marketing, assessing and managing the impacts of rapid

tourism growth, sustainable issues for cultural and heritage resources, and examining

visceral aspects of travel behavior and psychology.

Brief Bio:

Ali Bavik is an Assistant Professor at the Macao Institute for Tourism Studies (IFTM). Bavik

completed his Ph.D. at the University of Otago, New Zealand. He has several popular,

published journal articles and conference papers on topics related to hospitality

management. Recently, one of his research recognized as the ‘Outstanding Author

Contribution Award’ winner by Emerald under the Literati Network Awards for Excellence

2017. Currently, he is serving in the editorial board of the Journal of Hospitality and

Tourism Insights.

Brief Bio:

Prior to joining IFTM, Henrique was responsible for the creation and implementation of

corporate training and development solutions. He has taught courses in the fields of social

psychology, psychology of work, human resource management, organizational behavior and

consumer behavior. His research interests include job satisfaction and promotion

perceptions, advertising effectiveness, emotional display in service marketing, psychological

pricing. Articles on these subjects have been published in various journals indexed in SSCI.

Other projects include consultancy for the Macao SAR government on personnel planning

and man-power demand forecasting.

Brief Bio:

Dr. Yvonne Chen is a learning and development professional with over 10 years of

experiences in the education and hospitality industry. Before joining IFTM, she worked in

the corporate office of Galaxy Entertainment Group. At IFTM, Dr. Chen is teaching both

daytime and evening courses in the area of hotel management.

Dr. Jenny Guan Jieqi Email: [email protected]

Brief Bio:

Dr. Guan received PhD, MBA and BBA degrees from the Faculty of Business Administration,

University of Macau. Previously, she worked for Monetary Authority of Macao (AMCM) and

one of the Big-4 accounting firms, providing assurance services to companies from more

than 10 different industries, such as retail, tourism, hospitality and gaming sectors. She also

has conducted a number of consultancy projects for the Macao government and local

associations. Besides, she has published research papers in several international

conferences and SSCI journals and her book and book chapters have appeared in renowned

publishing houses such as Palgrave Macmillan and Routledge.

Brief Bio:

Dr. Sharif Shams Imon specialises in World Heritage and heritage tourism management. His

teaching and research experience spans more than 24 years, and he has been a consultant

for heritage and tourism management projects by UN bodies and governments in 14

countries. Currently, he is the academic coordinator of Heritage Management and Tourism

Business Management programmes at the Macao Institute for Tourism Studies and a visiting

faculty at the University of Hong Kong. He has published more than 40 articles in books,

journals and conference proceedings. His research works focus on sustainable tourism in

historic cities, community engagement in heritage management, heritage impact assessment

and heritage interpretation.

Brief Bio:

She received her master's degree from the University of Northumbria at Newcastle, U.K.,

and later obtained her Ph.D. from Nottingham Trent University, U.K. She has taught the

tourism-related courses over 15 years. She has collaborated actively with different

researchers, and much of her work has been on improving the tourism development in

Macao.

Dr. Andy Kuo Chen Feng Email: [email protected]

Brief Bio:

Dr. Kuo received his Ph.D. from Purdue University in hospitality and tourism management.

Before coming to IFTM, he was chairman of the hospitality management department at

Tunghai University in Taiwan. Dr. Kuo has held several consulting positions in the

hospitality area, including being a foodservice operations consultant for the 2009 Kaohsiung

World Games and the 2017 Taipei Summer Universiade. Also, he acted as a management

consultant for the 85 Sky Tower Hotel.

Brief Bio:

Dr. Cindia is the Assistant Professor and Academic Coordinator of the Evening Degree

Programmes of Macao Institute for Tourism Studies (IFTM). She graduated from University

of Southern Queensland (Australia) with a Bachelor of Science, completed her Master degree

at Heriot-Watt University (England) and earned her Ph.D. from the Catholic University of

Portugal (Portugal). Dr. Lam specializes in teaching service quality management and

accounting related courses. Her research focuses on tourism and hospitality areas that spans

from the development of tourism products (including medical tourism, wine tourism) and

corporate social responsibility (CSR), psychologic wellbeing of employees and customer

behavior, as well as smart tourism. She has supervised undergraduate degree thesis for

years.

Suna Lee has just joined IFTM in October this year. She previously worked at Hong Kong

Brief Bio:

Simon Lei has joined IFTM since 2009. Prior to that, he had held various supervisory

positions in several multinational firms/organisations, covering the sectors of computer

software, public utility, casino hotel and education respectively. He obtained his doctoral

degree in Hotel and Tourism Management in 2018.

Brief Bio:

Clara received her PhD in International Business from the University of Leeds in the United

Kingdom. Prior stepping into the academia, Clara worked in the industries for some years

and took part mostly in marketing and event management.

Brief Bio:

Dr. Xiangping Li is currently an Assistant Professor at the Macao Institute for Tourism

Studies. She earned her Ph.D. in Hospitality and Tourism Management at Virginia

Polytechnic Institute and State University, and a Master Degree from the University of

Hawaii, Manoa. She has published in top tier tourism journals. She has also won multiple

government projects as principal investigator or co-investigator.

Her research interests include sustainable tourism development, tourist behavior and

destination marketing.

Dr. Connie Loi Kim Ieng Email: [email protected]

Brief Bio:

Dr. Connie Loi’s career has brought her full-circle. Dr. Loi studied Tourism Business

Management at IFTM (with a specialisation in Hotel Management). She subsequently

received a PhD in Tourism from James Cook University in Australia after pursuing a

Master’s degree in Financial Management from University of London. Her research

interests mainly lie in the tourist behavior and destination management aspects. Results of

her research appear frequently in international academic journals and in conference

proceedings in the field of tourism and hospitality.

Brief Bio:

After completing the BA in Product & Furniture Design in a top UK design school (Kingston

School of Art) and completing MSc in Manufacturing, Design & Sustainability in an

industrial university (Cranfield University), he worked as a freelance designer. He later

completed a MRes, PhD and Postdoctoral research in Entrepreneurship and Sustainability

Education with full scholarship and joined Manchester Metropolitan University Business

School (MMUBS) in 2008 as a Senior Lecturer & Unit Leader. In 2009 he was awarded the

National Enterprise Educators Award (UK). In 2012 he returned to Macao after spending

16 years in the UK to join the Macao Institute for Tourism Studies as an Assistant Professor,

he is currently teaching Tourism Retail and Marketing Business Project, Store Design &

Visual Merchandising and Entrepreneurship. He has developed and is also developing a

range of enterprises with a number of partners, stakeholders and entrepreneurs and he

contributes to various associations in Macao.

Brief Bio:

Dr. Jim Luo is an Assistant Professor at IFTM, where he teaches subjects of year 1, 2 and 4

and does research. Jim has spent some 15 years teaching/researching in universities in New

Zealand, Hong Kong and Macao. He was a best-paper award winner of an international

hospitality conference years ago. Before joining academia, Jim was a veteran practitioner

of the tourism industry.

Jack completed his Ph.D. at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He has some published

Dr. Wan has taught a range of tourism, hospitality, casino gaming and urban planning

resorts in Macao. She is one of the main contact points for people who want to know more

Brief Bio:

Dr. Cora Un In Wong received her Ph.D. from the University of Waikato New Zealand and

she has joined IFTM since 2005. Cora teaches History of Macao and subjects related to

heritage studies and guiding interpretations. Dr. Wong has published widely in

internationally reputable journals in the field, including Annals of Tourism Research,

Brief Bio:

Hazel Xu joined IFTM in 2012, before which she had been a lecturer from 2009-2012 in the

School of Tourism Management of Sun Yat-sen University. Hazel has 4-year working

experience in the tourism industry in Hainan Island, China, and 2-year experience in the

logistics industry in Los Angeles, USA and Shanghai, China. Hazel has worked as the

primary investigator for three consultancy projects, two funded by the Macao Government

Tourism Office and one funded by the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute

(IPIM). She was a member of Macao MICE Committee (2014-2016)

Brief Bio:

Dr. June Yang received both her master and doctoral degrees from The Hong Kong

Polytechnic University. She won twice the Best Paper Award at two prestigious international

conferences in Singapore and Cyprus respectively. Dr. Yang has working and teaching

experiences in the hospitality field in Hong Kong, Macao and the Chinese Mainland for over

fifteen years. Apart from teaching the courses at both master and undergraduate levels in

Hong Kong and Macao, she also supervised doctoral dissertations.

equip her with multiple approaches to understand tourism and research tourism. Her

achievement in tourism is evidenced by honors and professional distinctions, publications

of books and articles on high impact international journals, delivering international and

national conference keynote speeches and seminars, and participating in advisory and

Brief Bio:

Dr. Joe Yong ZHOU had years of hotel industry experience after completing his bachelor's

degree in Tourism. Thereafter he obtained MSc in Tourism Planning and Ph.D. in tourism.

Joe devotes himself to tourism higher education in Macao since then and teaches a variety

of tourism courses at both undergraduate and graduate levels and supervises graduate

student dissertations.
