Economic Development PlanFEATURING

PotHoleGlue has been specifically formulated as a multi component system producing a catalytic reaction to create a powerful, durable and easy to apply solution for a well known problem. The PotHoleGlue system uses three components: 1. PotHoleGlue (dry polymer & powdered catalyst - charcoal colored)

2. RAP/Aggregate (3/8” minus Recycled Asphalt or similar aggregate / minimum 20% “fines”)

3. Water

The RAP and/or aggregate, as well as the water, is sourced locally by the applicator

Properly applied; the result is a durable, tough pothole repair agent that creates a strong bond between the applied aggregate and the surrounding asphalt.

- Excellent bonding capabilities to fine particles, asphalt, aggregate, and other organic or inorganic substrates

- Seals to the edge of the break

- Superb curing characteristics at or above freezing temperatures

- Remarkably simple application process

- Exceptional chemical, thermal and ultraviolet light stability

- Environmentally benign

Compared to the widely available petroleum based products, PotHoleGlue has unique and beneficial characteristics:

DirtGlue AfriCon’s

PotHoleGlue is a superb alternative to conventional, more harmful and less effective methods such as cold patch.

“Strong Bond”

“Strong Alternative”

Our Sustainable Economic Development Plan is capable of creating thousands of local jobs.

- Millions of tons of aggregate is needed for pothole repair and road building. Local workers can hand make the needed aggregate and be paid off a quota system.

- No special machinery is needed, just able bodied men and women eager to make a wage.

- Local workers can mix the ingredients and fill potholes by hand.

- Unskilled workers can be hired.

Creating Jobs with PotHoleGlue

In a time sensitive area, a special Volumetric Truck can be used.

“Jobs for Potholes”

Can employ teams of workers in every participating community, making aggregate and filling potholes by hand.

Everything is done by workers except the actual mixing of the solution, which is done by the computorized truck.

With a Volumetric Truck1. Fill truck with aggregate, PotHoleGlue and water.

2. Comperturized system on truck will mix the proper ratios needed.

3. Apply DirtGlue Industrial in the bottom of pothole.

4. Crew helps position truck’s mixing auger and release mixture into pothole.

5. Crew compacts PotHoleGlue mixture.

Without a Volumetric Truck1. Mix together proper ratios of aggregate and PotHoleGlue.

2. Mix in proper ratio of water.

3. Apply a layer of DirtGlue Industrial in bottom and sides of pothole (this creates a seal bond).

4. Apply mixture of aggregate, PotHoleGlue and water into the pothole.

5. Compact PotHole Glue mixture.

Application Process

Introduction to PotHoleGlue

PotHoleGlue is an environmentally friendly catalyzing product that is used to bond recycled asphalt or asphalt grindings together to form a pothole patch or repair that is stronger than the original asphalt. It has no VOCs and uses no petroleum products. Unlike other pothole repair systems, the bond at the seam between the patch and the old asphalt at the edge of the hole is very durable using this system. The PotHoleGlue repair patches easily outlast the surrounding asphalt. The bonding capabilities of PotHoleGlue are so good that aggregate, even many insitu soils can be substituted for recycled asphalt when and where necessary or beneficial. In order to be totally environmentally friendly it is necessary to use water to set off the catalytic reaction of PotHoleGlue. This creates one limitation, PotHoleGlue must be used when the temps are at or above freezing and will remain so for at least a few hours to permit full cure. Of high value is the fact that when mixed exactly according to the directions and compacted thoroughly, a repair patch made with PotHoleGlue can be driven upon immediately. PotHoleGlue is delivered in 55 pound plastic bags, 42 bags to the pallet. One bag will repair 50 sq ft at 1" of thickness. A repair done with PotHoleGlue is only done once because it outlasts the surrounding asphalt thus being very cost effective in the long run.

Proper Aggregate (or Recycled Asphalt)

When obtaining Recycled Asphalt (RAP) or RAP/aggregate blend to mix with PotHoleGlue it is very important that it be correctly sized. Correct size means that the product must be made up of a LINEAR GRADATION or EQAUL VOLUMES by weight of each individual particle size. The particle sizes should go from the maximum all the way down to invisible and EVERY SIZE in between. “Fines” are #200 sieve (0.075mm) and smaller which means very small, much smaller than sugar or salt or sand, although certainly the sand sized particles must be represented in the gradation of aggregate as well. All particles should be “crusher run” not “bank run”, in other words made from crushed stone not round stones and sand removed from a natural gravel bank. It will not be rocks mixed with dust! It must be ALL particles sizes equally represented. Visit a quarry that has a crusher and ask for a sample of RAP or RAP aggregate blend not larger than 1/2” minus aggregate (3/8” minus is preferable and will give a smoother, tighter looking repair) with a linear gradation and 20% fines so as to have a good quality representative sample that you can compare to what you run into out in the field. The proper aggregate is the same aggregate as used in the finish or top course of hot mix asphalt.

The Difference between a Patch and a Repair

Regarding PotHoleGlue it is important to remember not to try and compare it with "cold patch". When others compare "cold patch" to PotHoleGlue correct them. It is impossible to make a direct comparison because the two products aren't really meant to accomplish the same thing. This may sound contradictory to one uneducated in pothole repair/pothole patching. Pothole repair is a permanent fix of the pothole. When accomplished in the traditional manner it requires the edges of the hole to be cut cleanly, the hole itself to be cleaned out, HMA (hot mix asphalt) to be brought in to fill the hole and then the HMA is compacted with a very heavy roller and then the seams (clean cut edges) are heat treated with IR to melt the seams to the surrounding old asphalt at the cut edge. This is a costly and time consuming process that requires large, heavy equipment as well as the availability of HMA, which in cold times of year is not available. The temporary fix is cold patch. Cold patch has a very short life span (a few weeks to a few months typically). It is meant just to get by until the warmer weather comes and the HMA repair can be accomplished. PotHoleGlue works so well and is so durable that it is considered a permanent repair. The advantage is that it does not require all of the extras needed as in an HMA permanent repair. So PotHoleGlue is much more expensive than cold patch....... but it is much cheaper than HMA repair. You cannot compare PotHoleGlue to cold patch! COLDPATCH is a PATCH - - PotHoleGlue is a REPAIR (patch is temporary and repair is permanent).
