EXCELLENCE INNOVATION SUCCESS COMMUNITY POTTSVILLEBEACH PUBLIC SCHOOL Wednesday 1 July 2020 Term 2 Week 8 PRINCIPAL NEWS It’s been a remarkable term. Thank you to all staff, students, parents and families for your amazing support of our school during the disrupted term. I am very proud of each and every one of you and I sincerely hope you enjoy the upcoming school holidays. We were able to conduct our school cross country today. Well done and congratulations to all participants. It was nice to be able to conduct a whole school event again and we hope we can conduct more in Term 3. We are hoping that parents can attend our yet to be scheduled athletics carnival in Term 3. We are waiting until we hear advice of when parents are welcome back into school before we schedule that event. Today, you should have received your child’s report and it should also be available on the Sentral parent portal. If you would like to discuss your child’s report please contact your child’s teacher to make an appointment. How amazing is our P&C? On Monday our P&C handed a cheque for $100,000 over to the school to help fund the installation of the two new playground equipment structures. We simply could not have even thought about building this infrastructure without the P&C’s massive fundraising efforts. We are still planning to install them this year. There has been an air of excitement about our new therapy dog. The naming competition closed today and we hope to announce it before the end of term. Thank you to all students and staff who participated in the naming competition. I’m sure you’re all as excited as I am about the opportunity to work with our therapy dog. Our last day of term is Friday 3 July. Students return to school on Tuesday 21 July. Please have a happy, safe and restful holiday. See you all next term! EXCELLENCE INNOVATION SUCCESS COMMUNITYDEPUTY NEWS School uniform - Please discuss with your child the importance of looking after their belongings. Ensure school jackets, jumpers and hats are labelled with the child’s name. Our lost property bins are once again overflowing with lost hats and jackets. The lost property bins are sorted on a regular basis and any labelled items of clothing are returned to the child’s class. It is important that our students wear their school uniform as this shows the rest of the community that we are proud to be part of the Pottsville Beach school community.NCCD - As a school it is again time to complete the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD). This is a yearly count of students by all Australian schools across the country. The aim of the NCCD is to provide the Australian Government with information about the number of students with disability in Australian schools and the type of adjustments they need in order to access and participate in education on the same basis as other students. From 2018, the NCCD has been used by the Australian Government to inform funding for schools, known as the ‘student with disability loading’.Students in our school who have additional support, individual plans and other adjustments and accommodations made will be included in this process. Your child’s classroom teacher would have spoken to you about adjustments made to assist your child with their learning, social interactions and health.Your child will be included in the NCCD if they require ongoing adjustments at school due to a disability as defined by the Disability Discrimination Act 1992. This link will open in a new window (the DDA). This is a very broad definition of disability, which includes physical and intellectual disabilities, learning disorders such as dyslexia and dysgraphia, and mental health conditions such as anxiety and depression.Further information about the NCCD collection process, can be found in this fact sheet:https://www.nccd.edu.au/sites/default/files/fact%20sheet%20for%20parents%20guardians%20and%20carers.pdfWhile it is not possible for schools or families to ‘opt out’ of the NCCD, the privacy and confidentiality of all students and their families is treated with utmost importance. Data is collected within each school, and personal details, such as student names and other identifying information, are not provided to local or federal education authorities. SRC Pyjama Day - Thank you to the SRC who organised our fun pyjama day. It was a fresh day, so wearing our pyjamas ensured we were all snug throughout the day.

Attendance - As I have mentioned in previous newsletters, attendance at school is compulsory unless your child is unwell. Over the past few weeks, a large number of students have been absent on a Friday. If your child is absent 1 day a week, this equates to 40 days or 8 weeks of absences a year. This then affects your child’s learning as they miss the foundations needed for the next concept. Attendance/SMS/Portal - Thank you to parents who have been utilising the parent portal to indicate their child’s absence. When you receive an SMS stating your child is absent from school, please pop onto the parent portal and fill in the reason they are not at school. You can also respond to the SMS. Reasons may be doctor’s appointment, sick - which needs to be explained with more detail for eg cold symptoms. This will save you writing a note and sending it in with your child. You only have seven days to indicate why your child was absent from school. If you have not already registered for the parent portal please do so using the key you were provided earlier. If you have misplaced your portal letter which provides you with your access key information please contact the office.Jenny Foster - Deputy PrincipalOFFICE NEWS Administration of Medication - When administering medication to students at school we are required to adhere to the Department’s policy and guidelines.• All medication must be contained in original packaging, with name of student, dosage, time as prescribed by doctors.• Permission note must be completed and signed.• A medical action plan completed if required. Please note this means we are unable to administer medication such as Panadol, panamax etc. unless it has been prescribed by a doctor. Please contact the office if you would like further information in this matter.Absences SMS responses - When your child is absent from school you will receive an SMS as per below:“PBPS: Your {son_daughter} {student_first_name} {student_surname_initial} was marked absent from school {absence}. Please reply to this SMS message or provide explanation through the parent portal on the student dashboard via absences.”We encourage you to reply directly to the SMS with a detailed explanation of why your child is absent, as this saves you writing an absent note when your child returns.Sue Matheson - School Administrative ManagerES1 NEWS Labelling Clothing - As the weather is starting to get a little cooler, many of our students are wearing school jumpers and jackets to school. Can you please ensure that all items of clothing are clearly labelled with your child’s name and class. This is helpful when we are trying to get a lost jumper or jacket back to its owner.Bey Blades - Many of our Kindergarten students enjoy playing bey blades at break times. We ask that any student who like to bring in their bey blades to school, to bring a maximum of two.Holiday Home Reading and Activities - We hope you have a safe and happy school holiday! PM eCollection will be available for students to read over the holidays. Students will also have some activities brought home in the communication folder and posted on Seesaw that they might like to play during the break.KTP Parent Information Night - Pottsville Beach Public School 2021

We have all done an amazing job. Enjoy your well earned holiday. Kathy Frost - Assistant Principal STAGE 3 NEWS High School - Our records indicate that there are still a number of Year 6 students who have not enrolled in their secondary school for 2021. Please contact your high school at your earliest convenience. Transition days will hopefully proceed later in the year and if your child is not enrolled they will not be placed in a class, which can be upsetting for students on the day.The SRC executive were proud and delighted to receive a generous donation from the P&C this week for playground equipment.
