1.2. DISTRICT PROFILE (detail of geographical area, cultivation, Land, resources, opportunities, irrigation, populations etc.)–
Geographical area
Indore district lies in the heart of Malwa plateau and covers an area of 3831 sq km. Indore is situated at an altitude of 553 meters above
the sea level.It is bounded by N latitudes 22° 31’ and 23° 05’ and E longitudes 75° 25’ and 76° 15’ in the survey of India toposheet nos. 46M,
46N and 55B. Indore district is bounded in the north by Ujjain district, in the south by Khandwa district, in the east by Dewas district and in the
west by Dhar district.Indore district comes under Malwa plateau. Total geographical area is 381100 ha and net cultivated area is 252424 ha. Out
of total cultivated area 166552 is irrigated.
Climate
Due to its location in Central India (approx.76° E, 23° N) , far from the sea, Indore has a moderately extreme climate.
Winter: In winter (November to February), the night low is around 10oC.At the peak of winter, it can be as low as low as 2 to 3°C. The
record low is +1.5°C.
Summer: During summer (April-June) the days are hot (35-40°C) with the peak summer (May) day temperature sometimes touching
45°c. However , unlike other places in central India, the summer nights in Indore are something special. Due to its location on the southern edge
of the Malwa Plateau, however hot it may be during the day, in the late evening, cool breeze starts which makes the evenings quite pleasant,
referred to as Shab-e-Malwa.
Rainfall: Indore gets moderate rainfall of 30-35 inches (~80cms) during July-September due to S. W. Monsoon.
Cultivation
Soybean & Maize in Kharif and Wheat, Gram, Potato, & Garlic in Rabi are being grown by the farmers of Indore district.
Land
6
The main soil types found are medium black, shallow black, mixed red and skeletal. It consists of large undulating plans of black cotton
soil dotted with flat-topped hills. These soils are 0.46 to 0.9 meters thick and are rich in lime and lime nodules. The sub-soil and the partially
disintegrated rock below allow easy drainage and hence these medium black soils can be freely irrigated. The land use pattern of the district is
given in the following table:
LAND USE (sq km)Forest area 292.16 Net area sown 1508.87 Cultivable area 1508.87
OpportunitiesThere is a good scope of cultivation of export quality of wheat, potato, and Garlic. Also there is avery good scope of cultivation of
Marigold, Chrysanthemum, and Aster in the surrounding villages of Indore district.
Irrigation
61.29 % of the total geographic al area is irrigated. Data regarding Irrigation is given below:

2.3 Feedback from KVK to Research SystemName of KVK FeedbackIndore Farmers obtained more production than traditional practicesIndore All the farmers appreciated the performance of the INM and ready to adopt the components. The yield of soybean was recorded low in this season due to erratic
rainfall and imbalance in air temperature during growth, seed setting and pod filling stages. The use of INM practices increased the quality of the produced and the net return was increased.
Indore Farmers appreciated the technology and are ready to use vitamin mineral mixture in daily diets of dairy animals.

Indore By using IPM in cauliflower for managing DBM cost of cultivation can be reduced without affecting total income as well as
encouraging the use of Bio pesticides.
Indore The use of bleaching powder is easy when sprayed separately in soil, which reduced the incidence of wilting in crop.
Indore The production of the soybean in the case of BBF method of sowing was observed more than the F.P.
Indore Equipment was found very effective in reducing time and labour in weeding
Indore Equipment was found very effective in reducing time and labour in weeding
Indore All the farmers appreciated the performance of the demonstration and ready to adopt the components. The local varieties
were failed to produce higher as compared to the varieties. The yield of all the varieties were recorded low in this season
due to erratic railfall and imbalance in air temperature during growth, seed setting and pod filling stages. The use of INM
practices increased the quality of the produced and the net return was increased. The availability of good quality organic
manure and quality bio-fertilizers at proper rate and time in the village is a major constraint for adopting these.
Indore Equipment was found very effective in reducing drudgery in harvesting
Indore Use of endo parasital drugs every 4 months interval and regular use of ecto parasital solution for spraying on animals
resulted into 0% incidence of endo-ecto parasital diseases.

Name of the KVK : Indore
Introduction
Village Khati Pipliya is situated 1 km. interior from Indore Semliya Chau Road, which is 30 km. away from KVK headquarter, Kasturbagram, Indore. During last five years, the rainfall in the village was below in comparison to average rainfall of the district. Some farmers were growing cucurbits in summer but due to sudden downfall of available irrigation water sources their crops were getting affected. To overcome this situation, some of the farmers came to KVK and discussed their problem. Keeping their problem in mind, KVK made a programme of low cost drip irrigation system.
KVK intervention:
Training, Demonstration, and technical assistance
One of the farmers of the village namely Shri Tulsiram S/O Sawantji had planted Bitterguard crop in one bigha (approximately 0.6 acre). With the help of KVK, he used low cost drip irrigation system in this field.
Output
He was irrigating the Bitterguard crop daily by 1300-1400 liters of water, thereby he could able to get a good yield, details of which are as under:
