Power & Conflict Poetry (AQA Anthology) [email protected]

curriculum and content

A fully resourced scheme of 18 lessons. This online curriculum is ideal for whole-class delivery or student use. Each of the poems in the Power & Conflict cluster (AQA Anthology) are covered in detailed lessons that support the analysis of language, structure and context.

Written by a practising teacher and Senior Examiner, this course explores the poems in the anthology and the connections between the poems. The course is designed to promote enjoyment, interest and curiosity in the poetry studied but also ensures that all of the relevant Assessment Objectives (AOs) are covered.

Three additional lessons look at connections between the poems and include strategies for completing the examination question that learners will answer in the final examination. Some sample questions are included and our online assessment platform can be used for learners to upload these which can be assessed by class teachers in your school or by our team of expert assessors.

Each lesson sets out clearly key concepts and ideas contained within the poems to encourage learners to think thematically about the anthology, as opposed to simply thinking in terms of individual poems. Key vocabulary is also set out so that learners are to talk, write and think about the poems in a knowledgeable way. From the beginning, learners are encouraged to think about the wider definitions and types of power and conflict so that they become more versatile about thinking about connections, similarities and differences, between the poems. A downloadable worksheet is available for each poem so that learners have a clear record of their notes that be used to support revision.

Delivery and AccessAn online learning platform with individual learner access and a separate teacher admin area with a progress data dashboard and marking hub with internal or external marking options.

An 18 lesson course, accessed through The Assessment Box Learning Platform: the complete solution to keeping track of learners’ progress and work.

There is a detailed lesson on each poem including teaching materials (slides), podcasts, learner activities and quizzes. The programme starts with an introductory lesson introducing the key themes, ideas and contexts that are relevant to the anthology. The programme concludes with two lessons looking at how this unit is assessed, gives strategies for success and looks at some sample answers.

The course includes some assessments which you can mark yourself or have marked by our team of expert assessors. Marking completed by our team of examiners can be attributed to your teachers on the system. The system allows for teachers, HODs and members of SLTs to easily review and amend marks and comments.

All lessons are structured using our Six Steps design, meaning teaching is delivered through a carefully choreographed sequence of lesson podcasts, with quizzes building learners’ memory and checking for understanding while Hochman © style independent writing activities (complete with model answers and self-assess podcast) get learners thinking deeply.

As learners upload their independent work each lesson, teachers are able to check, mark or archive work on the Learning Platform, creating an excellent evidence base of learner progress. Likewise, quiz data evidences learner progress for each of the assessment objectives.

Each and every lesson is fully resourced, making it ideal for classroom delivery, online learning, revision, intervention sessions, catch-up programmes or even homework.

The sign-up and enrolment process is super simple and guaranteed to be headache-free.
