In our project we are throwing some light on the very

new and innovative concept ie GENERATING

ELECTRICITY FROM A SPEED BREAKER. Producing

electricity from a speed breaker is a new concept that is

under going research. The number of vehicles on road is

increasing rapidly and if we convert some of the kinetic

energy of these vehicle into the rotational motion of roller

then we can produce considerable amount of electricity,

this is the main concept of this project .

It works on the principle that As the vehicle passes over

the speed breaker the load acted upon the breaker setup

is there by transmitted to rack, pinion and chain

sprocket arrangements, where the reciprocating motion

of the speed-breaker is converted into rotary motion.

Then this rotatory motion is then fed on to the gear

drives which multiplies its speed. This speed which is

sufficient to rotate the rotor of a generator is fed into

the generator were an electro motive force is produced.

In our project A dome(a strip of plate that acts as speed

breaker) is mounted on four springs and in the bottom, a rack

is clamped. The rack consists contact teeth on one side of the

faces.It can be on both sides for further implement. It is

connected to a gear wheel to rotate the gear wheel only in onedirection. We have inserted a free wheel in this gear. The free

wheel and the gear assembly are mounted centrally. The

flywheel is also mounted on the same shaft . Now a dynamo

is connected to this shaft that acts as d.c generator also. Thisis used to produce d.c voltage. The output of this d.c

generator is given to a LED thats only shows that the

generator produced power.

Its primary function is to convert translatory motion into rotary

motion. It must have higher strength, rigidity and resistance to

shock load and less wear and tear.

A rack and pinion is a type of linear actuator that comprises a

pair of gears which convert rotational motion into linear motion.The circularpinion engages teeth on a linear "gear" barthe rack.

A spurgear is a rotating machine part having cut teeth, or

cogs, which mesh with another toothed part in order to

transmit torque.

Spur gears or straight-cut gears are the simplest type of

gear. They consist of a cylinder or disk with the teeth

projecting radially, and although they are not straight-

sided in form, the edge of each tooth is straight and

aligned parallel to the axis of rotation. These gears can bemeshed together correctly only if they are fitted to parallel

axles.

The primary function of flywheel is to act as an energy

accumulator. It reduces the fluctuations in speed. It

absorbs the energy when demand is less and release the

same when it is required.

A flywheel is a mechanical device with a significant

moment of inertia used as a storage device for

rotational energy

It is a rotating element, which is used to transmit power

from one place to another place. It supports the rotating

elements like gears and flywheels. It must have high

torisional rigidity and lateral rigidity.

It is defined as an elastic body whose function is to

distort when loaded and to recover its original shape

when the load is removed. It cushions, absorbs or

controls energy either due to shocks or due to

vibrations.

It is a machine element, which supports another

machinery. It permits relative motion between the

contacting surfaces while carrying the loads. They

reduce the friction and transmit the motion effectively.

A bearing is a device to allow constrained relative

motion between two or more parts, typically rotation or

linear movement. Bearings may be classified broadly

according to the motions they allow and according totheir principle of operation as well as by the directions

of applied loads they can handle.

It is a device, which converts mechanical energy into electrical

energy. It works based on faradays laws of electromagneticinduction.

FIRST LAW:

Whenever a conductor cuts across magnetic lines of flux ane.m.f is induced in it.

SECOND LAW: The magnitude of induced e.m.f is equals to the rate of change of

flux. So As the vehicle passes over the speed breaker the loadacted upon the breaker setup is there by transmitted to rack,pinion and chain sprocket arrangements, where the reciprocating

motion of the speed-breaker is converted into rotary motion.Then this rotatory motion is then fed on to the gear drives whichmultiplies its speed. This speed which is sufficient to rotate therotor of a generator is fed into the generator where an electromotive force is produced.

A battery of 12volts and 9 amp. is needed to store the

current that can be utilised to burn a cfl or other light

source. The two battery of 6 volt each can be used after

joining them in series. The current from the dc generator

is given to a LED after that it is given to battery. The LED

is used to insure that our system is working quite

satisfactorily.

An inverter is used to convert the d.c current in to

a.c.these invertor can be easily available in the market.

This conversion of d.c current in to a.c is needed to

burn the a.c equipments.

An inverter is an electrical device that converts direct

current (DC) to alternating current (AC); the converted

AC can be at any required voltage and frequency with

the use of appropriate transformers switching, andcontrol circuits.

A diode is a device that is used to prevent some energy

losses. Here in our project we used a diode named

DIODE IN 4007 that is placed before the battery. This

diode prevents the current to flow back towards the

gear. So it is used to allow the current to flow in

forward direction only and prevent to flow in backward

direction.

This is a power project based on the fact that how

electricity can be generated with the help of speed

breaker by making gear arrangement and using

electronics gadgets, thus a huge amount of electricity

can be generated saving lot of money. And if

implemented will be very beneficial for Government.

The roads in India has a number of speed breakers .By

just placing a unit like PowerGeneration so much ofenergy can be tapped. This project is the the best source

of energy that we get in our day today life.

Energy is an important input to sustain industrial growthand standard of living of a country and can be directly

related to per-capita energy consumption. The conventional

sources energy like coal, oil, uranium etc are depleting

very fast and by the turn of the century man will have todepend upon non conventional sources of energy for power

generation.

The various types of non-conventional sources of energy

are solar energy, wind energy, biogas etc now bydeveloping POWERHUMP we can generate power with

out utilizing any external sources mentioned earlier.
