HISTORY

From the day to day life the use of nano particles are

increasing.

But by using these nano particles the power can be

generated?

HOUSTON (Nov. 19, 2012) Rice University

scientists have unveiled a revolutionary new

technology that uses nanoparticles to convert solarenergy directly into steam. The new solar steam

method from Rices Laboratory for Nanophotonics

(LANP) is so effective it can even produce steam

from icy cold water.

Professor Taniguchi of Tokyo Science

University used the word

nanotechnology to describe the scienceand technology of processing or building

parts with nanometric tolerances.

A nanometer is a unit of length in the

metric system, equal to one billionth of

a meter.

OPERATION The efficiency of solar steam is due to the light-

capturing nanoparticles that convert sunlight into

heat. When submerged in water and exposed to

sunlight, the particles heat up so quickly they

instantly vaporize water and create steam.

With this technology, we are beginning to think

about solar thermal power in a completely differentway.

How it can be employed?

It is employed in the sea. The following waves lift thefloating structure that is connected to the diaphragm

pump, which in turns lifts the sea water into higher

levels. The water flows down due to gravity spins the

turbine and produce electricity.

Coming out of turbine, the water falls into a glass

storage container filled with carbon nano particles which

quickly Evaporates water when exposed to the sun by

direct sun light or using reflectors

Once the container is full, further water entry is

blocked using a valve. The excess water is released into

the sea.

The vapours are captured through a pipe to generate

distilled water for human consumption (Or) by using that

steam it can be sent to steam turbine. The steam turbine

rotates by the connection to the generator electrical

energy is produced as output.
