Notice to Sipeknekatik Band Members Re: Senior Utility Program/Social Assistance Utility Program

Dear Band Members, During the past several weeks there has been some confusion regarding the process involved with our Bands Senior Utility Program/Social Assistance Utility Program and this has resulted in many questions. For that reason, this notice will be drafted using a question and answer format to capture the most common questions and answers related to this issue. What is the Seniors Utility Program? The Shubenacadie Band Seniors program is designed to provide assistance to those Band members who are 64 years and older by covering 100% of their heating and electricity expenses Who Qualifies under the Seniors Utility Program To qualify for this program you must meet with the following criteria: A. Must be a Shubenacadie Band Member; B. Must be 64 years old or older (proof will be required); C. Must be the head of household (proof will be required); What is the Social Assistance Utility Program and who Qualifies for this program? Those individuals who qualify for Social Assistance though the Sipeknekatik Bands Social Department and are registered with the band as being the head of household will have their Power and Heating Expenses covered 100%. Take note that our social program will only cover on reserve utility bills.

How do I get the Band to pay for my Power Bill Sipeknekatik Band members who qualify for the Seniors Utility Program or the Social Assistance Utility Program are expected to submit their Power Bills to our Band administration as soon as it is received. This will provide the Band with ample time to budget for these expenses and ensure that your utilities do not end up suspended. Please be advised that if you no not give the band proper notice and submit your Power Bill as soon as it is received you will be at risk of having your utilities turned off due to nonpayment. In the end the band is unable to cover expenses that we are unaware of. To Who and Where do I submit my Power Bill? You are welcome to hand deliver the utility bill to the Band Office. Social Assistance Utility Bills should be submitted to Elizabeth (BUNNY) Michael. Senior Utility Program Bills should be submitted to Nina Jackson. Otherwise band members are welcome to mail their Power Bill using the address provided below. Social Assistance Utility Bill Senior Utility Program Attn: E.
