POWER OF YOUTH
India is a country of over one billion population and fortunately 50 per cent of the citizens
form the proud youth community. We, the youth are at the prime of the nation’s health, full
of energy and are a storehouse of power.
At the threshold of fast technological and economic development, India needs healthy,
focused and vibrant youth to raise the present scenario of India. It is generally believed that
due to the high percentage of youth, the development will be rapid, the adoption of
technology and other modern methods of protection shall be widespread. Dr. Karan Singh,
in his famous article “Youth and tasks ahead” highlights the importance of youth in nation
building.
This youth power can be properly channelized to make the best out of it. So, which branches
of the economy needs the youth power?? Defense, politics, technological advancement
groups would make the top of the list, but why be choosy, youth can make their mark in any
field, let it be sports or media, fashion or innovation.
All of us know that youth is the age when we are fit physically and mentally. Despite
technological developments in weapons, the fight in war remains a matter of physical
endurance. Our youth must be taught a priori to be patriotic to the country; make them a
part of NCC’s and YRC’s. After all the task of defending a country lies with the youth, the
younger the stronger.
Next up is politics, the feelings of religion, caste and creed must be eradicated from the
mind and the seed of unity must be planted. India is the biggest democracy in the world,
where the power of speech and expression from the citizens is of highest priority. The
government must realize that it is important for India’s future to induct the youth in the
democratic process at an early age. After all it is the youth who ultimately will become the
stalwarts in politics and one day will hold the reins of democracy in their hands.
Today, we live in a globalized world. Trade and business opportunities have grown like never
before. There have been great advancements in various aspects of education, learning,
science, communication and technology. Here, the work of the youth must be to gain
knowledge of these advancements so that they do not lag behind the people of other
advanced countries. We are actually fortunate because we have tremendous sources for
learning unlike our elders who had to depend only on books. As individuals we should know
the fact that when we develop not only our family benefits from it but our whole society
and community in which we live in.
Did we ever guess we could do so much, yes we could, one youth community in some small
region can actually start a revolution, that is how the eelam tamils problem in Sri Lanka
came to our conscience in Tamil Nadu that made changes in UN decisions too. We do
matter!!
The power of youth is unquestioned in sports too, however sport is where most of the
physical strength gets to use. Our sports icons Sachin Tendulkar, Vishwanath Anand,
Dhanaraj Pillai and Jaspral Rana have shown they are the best in the world. In the field of
media, let it be screenplay roles or music, our youth have etched their places in the hearts
of people. A R Rahman, the golden globe awardee, Aishwarya Rai Bachan, the world
renowned actress one among those who brought pride to the country in their young age.
In the world of fashion, Rina Dhaka, Ritu Berry and Vallaya have achieved international
fame. Their creations are in great demand all over the world.
Even the advanced countries from America and Europe are eager to bring the Indian
engineers, doctors, business managers and technologists on their soil. Our young
entrepreneurs have made successful forays into international markets.
The power of youth is unequivocal. When the storehouse is brought to use, challenges can
be met and won. We are the nation’s future, the strongest backbone that can never be
broken. Be heard, be strong, be proud, we are here to make a change, we are here to
rearrange.
