    The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) is specialized agency of the

    United Nations that leads international efforts to defeat hunger.

    Our goal is to achieve food security for all and make sure that people have

    regular access to enough high -quality food to lead active, healthy lives.

    With 194 member states , FAO works in over 130 countries worldwide .

    We believe that everyone can play a part in ending hunger .

  • AREAS OF WORK

    The Agriculture & Consumer Protection department works with partners to address the range of issues that affect food from farm to table including: improved production; management and conservation of crops and livestock; plant and animal pest and disease prevention and response; food safety and quality; and agricultural research and extension.

    The Climate, Biodiversity, Land and Water department has two main areas of focus: Climate Change where FAO supports countries to both mitigate and adapt to the effects of climate change and Land And Water where FAO aims to enhance the agricultural productivity and advance the sustainable use of land and water systems .

    The Economic and Social development department works on social protection, gender equality, decent rural employment preventing child undernutrition and collates and disseminates food and agricultural statistics globally.

    The Fisheries & Aquaculture department works to strengthen global governance and the managerial and technical capacities of members and to lead consensus -building towards improved conservation and utilization of aquatic resources.

    The Forestry department helps nations manage their forests in a sustainable way.

    The Programme Support department Strategic Framework by mobilizing resources, preparing and responding to food and agricultural threats, help countries increase investment in agriculture.

    The Corporate Services & Administration department delivers services and support functions in travel, procurement and other administrative areas.
