1st Grade Parent PowerPoint!

It will be sent to and from school each day. Please look at your child's behavior calendar daily. A newsletter will be included each Friday on the front. A homework packet will be sent home every Friday. Any notes or money should be sent in this folder in the zipper pouch.

Blue Take Home Folder

Assessments, work samples, and rubrics will come home every other Tuesday. Please sign and return all papers on Wednesday. Future work samples will not be sent home until previous ones are returned to school. All work samples will be sent home at the end of the year.

Green Folder

The Literacy Based Promotion Act's purpose is to improve the reading skills of Kindergarten and First

through Third Grade students. Students will be given universal screeners to determine student progression. The student will be provided with continued intensive

reading instruction and intervention by the school district until the reading deficiency is remediated.

Lunch Money Lunch price - $2.75...Breakfast is $1.25.

Money can be sent daily, weekly, monthly, or yearly. It

can also be paid online at www.mealpay.com

Please send all money in zipper bag in BLUE folder and label it lunch money, field trip, etc.

All checks need a phone number written on them.

•  Birthdays- Please only bring store bought items. *Invitations should be sent to all children.

•  Students may have three lunch visitors a month. No visitors on Friday, unless the student’s birthday is on that Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. This is a safety issue due to lack of space in the cafeteria.

•  Water bottles only •  All dismissal changes must come through the office.

Parents, please do not text, email, etc. as I may not get a chance to check.

•  The parent handbook is available on the school website. You may also pick up a hard copy from the office, if needed.

Each week, students will be given a practice reading comprehension sheet for

homework. Students will be given a practice assessment every Thursday whole group. There will be a reading comprehension

individual assessment given as a grade every other week in the first semester. During the second semester, students will be given one every week.

Reading Comprehension

•  New state attendance law: HB1530 states that students must be present 63% of the day or they are counted absent.

•  We teach the Mississippi College and Career Readiness Standards. •  We have a standards-based report card for 1st grade this year. In

order for a student to be promoted to 2nd grade, they must receive a 3 (mastering the standard) in a minimum of 20 out of 30 Language Arts Standards and 16 of the 23 Math standards (70% Mastery). The first grade end of year reading goal is for your child to be reading at a Level I or higher.
