Gulf Air’s CSR & sponsorship strategy is touse our expertise, technology andpartnerships for positive social,environmental and business impact – whileleveraging the strength of the Gulf Air brandto engage with our stakeholders in supportof our values of trust, unity, quality andexcellence. In doing so our strategy strivesto ensure a sponsorship portfolio thatengages stakeholders with the airline andKingdom of Bahrain, whereby theevents/initiatives we sponsor not only have apositive influence but also support ourmission of promoting Bahrain to a diverse,global audience.
In 2015 Gulf Air’s dedicated CSR &Sponsorship Committee continued to deliveron its mandate to manage and direct all ofthe Kingdom of Bahrain’s national carrier’sactivities in support of both the localBahraini community and those across ourairline’s network.
In its first year of operation the CSR &Sponsorship Committee skillfully drove GulfAir’s CSR & Sponsorship mission of:
- Contributing long-term value by helping tobuild a sustainable, responsible organization
- Delivering a positive experience for ouremployees
- Minimizing the negative environmentalimpact of our operations
- Making a positive contribution to thecommunities in which we operate
- Becoming the Kingdom of Bahrain’s globalambassador: through positive sponsorshipsthat promote the Kingdom

Thank you for taking the time to learn of Gulf Air’sjourney to achieving greater corporate responsibility in2015.
Since the Kingdom of Bahrain’s national carrier wasestablished in 1950, corporate social responsibility andstrategic sponsorship has been vital to the airline’smission, critical to its operations and aligned with itscorporate values of trust, unity, quality and excellence.
In 2014 the airline’s newly appointed, dedicated CSR &Sponsorship Committee delivered upon a mission tosupport global communities, both within the workplaceand beyond, in the areas of: Governance and Ethics,Our People, The Arts, Sport, Society and Environment.
In 2015 the airline built upon its 2014 achievementsthrough an expanded range of initiatives and, to date,it continues to channel and utilize the Gulf Air family’scollective expertise, technology and partnerships forpositive social, environmental and business impactwhile engaging stakeholders with the airline andKingdom of Bahrain, whereby the events/initiativessponsored by Gulf Air not only have a positiveinfluence but also support the carrier’s mission ofpromoting Bahrain to a diverse, global audience.
As the airline develops leaders and invests inmembers’ futures, it reduces its carbon andenvironmental footprint, contributes to buildingstronger and happier societies, and embraces anethical business ethos while propelling Bahrain onto aglobal stage. To whatever extent Gulf Air hassucceeded thus far, the airline’s global family continuesto strive, daily, to deliver upon a commitment to builda brighter future for its workforce, the communities inwhich it operates and the world we live in.

Gulf Air Partners with UNEP to Celebrate World Environment Day
Reinforcing the airline’s commitment tooperate as a responsible global citizen, GulfAir sponsored the United NationsEnvironment Programme’s (UNEP)celebration of World Environment Day whichis celebrated internationally on 5 June ofevery year.
Gulf Air helped bring members of a bandspecializing in environmental entertainmentand their equipment from Lebanon toBahrain; where they performed a veryinformative play on the environment toyouth and parents in City Centre Mall,Bahrain.

Gulf Air and Dreams Society Partner for World Charity Day
Gulf Air partnered with Dreams Society,which aims to realize the dreams of childrenaffected by terminal illness or debilitatingdisease, on the occasion of World CharityDay, donating airline tickets to the localcharity in order to help them realize thedreams of children effected with terminalillnesses and debilitating diseases.
Declared by the United Nations GeneralAssembly in 2012, World Charity Day iscelebrated globally on 5th September and isa day dedicated to the promotion ofdialogue, solidarity and mutual assistanceamong people.

Gulf Air Sponsors the Second Edition of “Shop Bahrain”
The airline offered a 15% fare discount tovisitors of the family shopping festival tocome to Bahrain and enjoy everything thefestival and the Kingdom have to offer.
“Shop Bahrain” 2015 marks the secondcollaboration between the national airlineand the festival; with the shared goal ofpromoting the Kingdom as a family friendlytourist destination.

Gulf Air and the Cultural Attaché Office in The Embassy of the Kingdom of Bahrain in London Partner Again to Hold the Bahraini Students’ Annual Gathering
In 2014 Gulf Air announced its cooperationwith the Cultural Attaché office in TheEmbassy of the Kingdom of Bahrain inLondon, through the launch of a package oftailored initiatives for Bahraini studentsabroad. In light of the ongoing cooperation,the airline sponsored the annual gatheringof Bahraini students in UK which was held inOctober 2015.

Gulf Air Celebrates Nowruz in Ontario
Nowruz is the traditional Iranian festival ofspring which starts at the exact moment ofthe vernal equinox, commencing the start ofthe spring. It is considered as the start ofthe New Year among Iranians.
In 2015, Gulf Air helped the Iraniancommunity in Ontario, Canada mark this dayby sponsoring the much anticipated event.

Gulf Air sponsors the 4th Arab-Hellenic Economic Forum in Athens
In June, Gulf Air sponsored the 4th Arab-Hellenic Economic Forum in Athens. The event was titled “35 years of Excellence in Partnership”, as it coincided with the 35th anniversary since the establishment of the Arab-Hellenic Chamber of Commerce and Development.
This year's Forum focused on the HashemiteKingdom of Jordan, presenting theinvestment climate and opportunities offeredthere.

Celebrating Bahraini Students’ Achievements In Qatar
At an event held in Doha and under thepatronage of H.E. Mr. Waheed MubarakAbdullah Sayyar the Ambassador of theKingdom of Bahrain to Qatar, the airlineonce again sponsored the Embassy of theKingdom of Bahrain in Qatar’s annualcelebration of high-achieving Bahrainistudents in Qatar. Gulf air Chief of Operations Visits Salmaniya Medical Complex’s Children’s Wards
The airline’s Chief of Operations CaptainNasser Al Salmi reached out to the localcommunity during the holy month ofRamadan by paying a visit to SalmaniyaMedical Complex’s children’s wards, todistribute gifts and entertain the hospital’syounger patients. Accompanied by a cabincrew member and members of the airline’sworkforce; Captain Nasser toured thechildren’s wards, distributing gifts andwishing the children good health andwellness.
In discussions with Ministry of Health’sSenior Advisor – Patient Experience andPatient First Mr. Mohammed Jassim, CaptainNasser stressed the importance ofsupporting the local community andembracing the spirit of Ramadan while,joined by a crew member, he regaled storiesof flying to the young patients.

Gulf Air Continues to Take Pride in being the Title Sponsor of the Bahrain Grand Prix
With strategic global links to key European,Asian and Middle Eastern cities Gulf Airembraces a global audience, not onlythrough its network offering but through itsaffiliations, for example, as title sponsor ofthe Bahrain Grand Prix (since April 2004when Bahrain made history by becoming thefirst country in the region to host a FormulaOne Grand Prix). Since then, the airline hasbeen instrumental in the success of theevent and the economic benefits it hasbrought to Bahrain’s economy – furtherpromoting the Kingdom of Bahrain as adestination. Gulf Air has maintained the roleof title sponsor of the Bahrain Grand Prix todate.

Bahrain Football Association Recognizes Gulf Air’s Sponsorship of the King’s Cup
In an official ceremony thanking sponsors ofthe King’s Cup, the Bahrain FootballAssociation, headed by President of BahrainFootball Association Sheikh Ali bin Khalifa AlKhalifa, recognized and thanked Gulf Air asa key sponsor of the annual event.

The airline brought over the Colombianfootball team from its camp in Dubai inMarch for a friendly match in Bahrain, whichwas won by the Colombian team, despitethe great effort paid by our National footballteam.

Gulf Air Sponsors Airline’s Cricket Team
Gulf Air celebrated the airline’s cricket team’sreturn from Manila where they participated inthe Clark Sixes tour – reaching semi-finalstage. The Gulf Air team, led by CaptainWaqas Riaz, defeated four teams (includingChinese Taipei, Manila Ross, AFC 1 andIQOR) at the Clark Cricket ground. The GulfAir cricket team, which was established in1994, is a strong brand ambassador for theairline, competing globally throughout theyear and have previously won the NomadsCricket Club Annual Tournaments for fourconsecutive years in addition to winning overten finals including six-a-side and one daymatches. Most recently, Gulf Air won theCentenary of Nomads Tournament playingagainst Manila team: Nomads CC.
The Gulf Air cricket team also successfully participated in the BAHRAIN SIXES local cricket tournament that took place in August 2015. The 15 day tournament saw a total of 32 teams participating of which Gulf Air’s cricket team took 2nd place.

Sponsoring the international Bahrainibowling star Mr. Mohammed Janahi meanshe’s a regular Gulf Air passenger wheneverhe travels to represent the Kingdom ininternational bowling events. Mr. Janahi isalso a member of the official Gulf Airbowling team representing our airline inlocal industrial leagues. Within Gulf Air, theprofessional bowler is also active in teachingour airline’s staff and their children variousbowling techniques and establishing inter-departmental bowling competitions.

Gulf Air Sponsor’s the Airline’s Annual Ramadan Football Tournament
In Ramadan, the airline held its annualRamadan football tournament, which saw 8teams representing different departmentsand divisions within the airline competing towin the tournament cup. The tournament,held in Al Najma Sports Club, was won byGulf Air’s Cabin Crew team who wereawarded the winner’s cup by A/ChiefExecutive Officer Mr. Maher Salman AlMusallam.

Gulf Air’s Paris team supported therenowned Golf Tournament “Saint Nom laBreteche” in 2015. The event which saw 71golfers participating in the tournament alongwith various partners at the awardceremony, ended with a lucky draw travelpackage for Gulf Air flights.

Great Accomplishments for the Airline’s Sponsored Gulf Air Darts Team
The Gulf Air Darts Team was ranked in 3rdplace in the 2014-2015 Bahrain DartsLeague while Team Captain Fathi MahmoodSulaibeekh was awarded a trophy for histhird consecutive year in the top position asa solo player.
The Gulf Air Darts Team was also victoriousat the open dart championship held at TheBahrain Yacht Club on 30th October 2015.

Gulf Air Brings Home Bahrain’s Winning Junior Rugby Team
As sponsors of the Bahrain Rugby Club’sjunior team, the airline flew them to andfrom Dubai to compete in the HSBC RugbyFestival Dubai 2015. The highly competitivefinal match resulted in the Bahrain under12s winning the plate competition andreturning victorious to Bahrain.

Gulf Air is the Official Carrier of the 2015 Routes Middle East & Africa
In June 2015, Bahrain welcomed over 350delegates from across Africa and the MiddleEast, representatives from over 50 airlines,70 airports and 10 tourism authorities allgathering to attend the 2015 Routes MiddleEast & Africa – hosted by Bahrain AirportCompany. Gulf Air was the event’s officialcarrier partnering with Bahrain AirportCompany – a key industry partner for theairline – to welcome such a first-timeindustry event to not only Bahrain but theentire region.

The national carrier sponsored andparticipated in GITEX 2015 – the largestInformation Technology exhibition andconference in the Middle East. Celebratingits 35th anniversary this year, the renownedIT expo was held in Dubai and saw Gulf Air,the only Bahraini organization to participate– take home three wins: “Best Hospitalityand Tourism Implementation of the Year”and “Middle East Chief Information Officer(CIO) of the Year” by Arabian ComputerNews, and “Best Project Execution of theYear in the Aviation Industry” by EnterpriseChannel (ACN).

Joining forces with leading aircraftmanufacturer, Airbus, Gulf Air recentlycelebrated the success of the A320 FamilyRegional Seminar for Middle East, Africa andIndia operators – jointly hosted by Airbusand Gulf Air and held in Bahrain.
Bringing together the region’s aviationexperts, technical professionals andengineering managers, the two daytechnical seminar served as a forum forknowledge-sharing and detailed andcollaborative technical discussions onregional fleet performance, top technicalissues and associated solutions, theoperations of the A320 family aircraft,Airbus’ ongoing and upcomingdevelopments in support of airlineoperations along with invaluable insight intothe A320 family product evolutions.

The Arab Air Carriers’ Organization (AACO)Business Technology Forum, under thetheme of ‘Empowerment through MobileTechnology’ held recently in Bahrain, was aplatform for AACO members and partners toshare and discuss mobile technology andhow best to deploy it to better serve thecustomer and meet the future prospects ofthis trend.
