REMEMBER THAT YOU CAN WORK
TOGETHER AND THERE IS NOTHING
TO STOP YOU FROM TRYING A
HARDER CHALLENGE!
These Gemstones have unrivalled
powers unlike anything we have
seen before. The seems to open
small pockets and GATEWAYS on
the island meaning that you can
transport from one place to
another instantly.
Week 6:
The strange phenomena of the island continues, first unusual species not seen before,
then ancient languages that might not even be from this planet now gemstones that
seem to have incredible abilities.
These discoveries could change the world.
Top scientist Albert Einstein
theorized that WORMHOLES could
exist. These are a bending of
time and space where masses of
energy create a pathway between
two spaces, far apart. These
crystals seem to harness that
energy!
We are going to write a scientific recount of your
first GATEWAY travel from one place to another. Your
science team are studying the gems capabilities..
Features: Recount example.
31/6/2019 – 10.36am Research Facility: North Camp
I had been chosen to do the first jump through the
gateway. I stood, surrounded by the trees and tents of
the camp. Around me were people with clipboards
staring. It had been a week of experiments with the
gemstones found in the river bed. They were beginning
to glow as I pictured the space only a few feet away
from me.
A surge of bright light emanated from my clasped as a
warm sensation spread throughout my arm and
throughout my body. A relaxing sensation came over
me, which was strange as my heart rate was increasing.
Before long the surroundings were hazy, covered in the
same glowing light. Then, darkness. A high-pitched
sound could be heard in my ear.
In a flash, I was standing somewhere else staring at the
place I had just been. My body was tingling with
pinpricks and the gem stopped glowing. I was sweating
and breathless. The surroundings were the same but
from a new angle.
Features:
• Past tense.
It has
already
happened.
• 1st person –
What did you
witness?
• Precise
words
• Paragraphs
to show
changes in
time or
place.
YEAR 1 AND 2 YEAR 3 AND 4 YEAR 5 AND 6
Which word will you choose to be in the past tense?
Find the right tense. How could you improve the sentences?
Change the tense. How could you improve and extend the sentence?
WHEN WRITING A RECOUNT, WE ARE
WRITNG ABOUT THINGS THAT HAVE
ALREADY HAPPENED. IT SHOULD BE
FACTUAL AND IN THE PAST TENSE.
The past tense changes some words to show that events have happened in the PAST.
Tense can be PAST, PRESENT or FUTURE and should be consistent in your writing.
Your first task is to find the words that are the wrong tense and change them.
1. Which is the past tense form? GOING GONE
2. I find/found the stones lying in the river bed.
3. The stones begin/began to glow and I know/ knew that they were working.
4. The strange sensation spreads/spread through my arm and into my body.
5. I walking through the forest looking for new species.
6. I was stand in one place and quickly move to another.
7. My temperature rises and I become slightly sweaty.
8. For a second I do not know where I am.
9. The other scientists look on in shock; they know that it has been successful.
Paragraph 1: location one – before the jump
Questions to help. Amazing words.
Where are you? Who is there? Why are you there? What time is it?
Paragraph 2: What it feels like
What do the crystals do? How do you activate them? What happens to your body? What happens to the surroundings? How does it feel?
Paragraph 3: New location after the jump.
Where are you now? What has changed? What is the reaction?
PLANNING A PIECE OF WRITING IS JUST AS IMPORTANT AS WRITING
IT. IT HELPS YOU TO GET IDEAS AND ORGANISE YOUR THOUGHTS.
THIS PIECE WILL BE SPLIT INTO THREE SECTIONS AS THERE ARE
THREE MAIN MOMENTS. PARAGRAPHS CAN HELP TO SHOW A
DIFFERENCE IN TIME OR PLACE.
NAME: DATE: LOCATION:
RECOUNT:
SIGNED: POSITION:
THIS FIRST ATTEMPT WILL NOT BE PERFECT BUT WE CAN
EDIT IT BEFORE WRITING UP A 2ND VERSION OR ‘DRAFT’
TOMORROW.
NOW IS THE EXCITING TIME TO WRITE.
REMEMBER, YOU ARE GOING TO PASS THROUGH A
GATEWAY FROM ONE PLACE TO ANOTHER AND
WRITE A RECOUNT OF WHAT HAPPENED IN THIS
EXPERIMENT. YOU WILL USE PAST TENSE,
FIRST PERSON AND PRECISE LANGUAGE
(SCIENTIFIC LANGUAGE IF YOU CAN!) THESE
PARAGRAPHS WILL SHOW A CHANGE IN TIME AND
PLACE.
THE READER WILL NEED TO KNOW:
Why you are there.
What you are doing.
What is happening.
How it feels.
What happens when you arrive in a new location.
