INTEGRATION IN YOUR SCHOOL/BUILDING/DISTRICT?

They are working to incorporate technology into their school and classrooms through the use of ipads, smart boards, document cameras, and computer carts for classrooms to share .

2-How long have they been using technology in the classroom? What kind of technology do you use in the classroom? They have always had a computer lab that is accessible to all

classes. Each classroom has a mac and a pc desktop and there are computer carts that are shared by grade levels.

For the past five years they have also utilized the computer lab for Intervention program. Students are grouped by reading level and they visit the computer lab (4 days a week for 45 mintues) where they work on programs that boost their fluency and comprehension.

(Reading A-Z’s Raz-Kids and Reading Plus.) Their primary grades use the technology for listening to stories as well as for learning games (Star fall, Raz-Kids…) they have upper grades use the technology for researching as well as for educational games (Study Island, Raz-Kids, National Geographic for Kids…)

5-HOW DO THE STUDENTS INTERACT WITH TECHNOLOGY?

Most classes work on the ipads daily in their classroom .

They are used for listening to audio books, typing the books they publish in Writer’s Workshop, researching their non-fiction reports, as well as many educational apps that are used daily for both Math and Language Arts .

Many teachers use Socrative (an online assessment tool) to assess understanding daily .

In Library each week, the students use the SMART board to listen to stories and watch educational videos about Authors and books they have read .

There is also a typing station where our 4th and 5th grade students can begin to prepare for higher levels of education by familiarizing themselves with computers and word processing.

6-How does technology integrate into the new curriculum - common core?

What do the kids create with the use of technology?

There is a wealth of great resources and apps that are Common Core aligned which their students use daily.

All of these programs expose them to a world of knowledge that they cannot receive just through books or discussing new topics.

These programs and videos allow them to see and experience new ideas firsthand.

Teacher tube has a wide variety of videos that help children to visually understand the concepts they are learning about.

Their students publish several stories a year as part of our Writer’s Workshop model and there are a variety of programs that allow them to write and create stories together interactively.
