How Melaka Got Its NameLong ago, a prince from Sumatra, Parameswara came to the west coast of Malaya. He set up camp by the Bertam River. He loved to hunt wild animals and he was skilful with a spear. He never missed a target. His people believed that his spear had magical power. One day, Parameswara rode into the jungle with some of his guards. They brought along hunting dogs. They saw a mouse deer. Parameswara lifted his spear and aimed but he missed.
