PRELUDE

CALL TO WORSHIP* from Psalm 8

Minister: O LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have

set your glory above the heavens.

All: From the lips of children and infants you have ordained praise silencing

your enemies and all who oppose you.

Minister: When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and

the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, the

son of man that you care for him?

All: O LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!

HYMNS *

All Hail the Power of Jesus’ Name CORONATION

A ll hail the power of Jesus' name! Let angels prostrate fall;

Bring forth the royal diadem, and crown him Lord of all.

Bring forth the royal diadem, and crown him Lord of all.

Ye chosen seed of Israel's race, ye ransomed from the fall,

Hail him who saves you by his grace, and crown him Lord of all.

Hail him who saves you by his grace, and crown him Lord of all.

O that with yonder sacred throng we at his feet may fall!

We'll join the everlasting song, and crown him Lord of all.

We'll join the everlasting song, and crown him Lord of all.

O for a Thousand Tongues to Sing AZMON

O for a thousand tongues to sing my great Redeemer's praise,

The glories of my God and King, the triumphs of his grace.

My gracious Master and my God, assist me to proclaim,

To spread through all the earth abroad, the honors of thy Name.

He breaks the power of reigning sin, he sets the pris'ner free;

His blood can make the foulest clean, his blood availed for me.

He speaks and, listening to his voice, new life the dead receive;

The mournful, broken hearts rejoice; the humble poor believe.

PRAYER OF INVOCATION AND ADORATION* Rev. Ronnie Rowe

CONFESSION OF FAITH from the Heidelberg Catechism, Lord’s Day 1

Minister: What is your only comfort in life and death?

All: That I am not my own, but belong with body and soul, both in life and in

death, to my faithful Savior Jesus Christ. He has fully paid for all my sins with His

precious blood, and has set me free from all the power of the devil. He also pre-

serves me in such a way that without the will of my heavenly Father not a hair can

fall from my head; indeed, all things must work together for my salvation. There-

fore, by His Holy Spirit He also assures me of eternal life and makes me heartily

willing and ready from now on to live for Him. SONG OF PRAISE

Lamb of God

Your only Son no sin to hide, but You have sent Him from Your side,

To walk upon this guilty sod, and to become the Lamb of God.

Your gift of love they crucified. They laughed and scorned Him as He died.

The humble King, they named a fraud, and sacrificed the Lamb of God.

Chorus:

Oh Lamb of God, sweet Lamb of God, I love the Holy Lamb of God.

Oh wash me in His precious Blood, my Jesus Christ the Lamb of God.

I was so lost I should have died, but You have brought me to Your side,

To be led by Your staff and rod, and to be called a lamb of God.

Chorus

PUBLIC CONFESSION OF SIN adapted from 17th century Puritan, Richard Baxter

Minister: Let us confess our sins before our righteous and holy God.

O most great, most just and gracious God, you have promised mercy through Jesus

Christ to all who repent and believe in him. Therefore we confess that we are sinful

by nature and that we have all sinned and come short of the glory of God. We have

dealt unjustly and uncharitably with our neighbors. We have not sought first your

kingdom and righteousness. We have not been content with our daily bread. We

have yielded to temptation; and the sin that we should have hated, we have commit-

ted. Have mercy upon us, most merciful Father! We confess that you are our only

hope.

PRIVATE CONFESSION OF SIN

ASSURANCE OF PARDON Romans 5: 1

Hear the promises of God to those who truly repent of their sins and trust in Christ:

Therefore having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord

Jesus Christ.

SCRIPTURE READING* 2 Samuel 22.1-20

1 And David spoke to the LORD the words of this song on the day when the

LORD delivered him from the hand of all his enemies, and from the hand of Saul. 2

He said, "The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, 3 my God, my

rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold

and my refuge, my savior; you save me from violence.

4 I call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised, and I am saved from my

enemies. 5 "For the waves of death encompassed me, the torrents of destruction as-

sailed me; 6 the cords of Sheol entangled me; the snares of death confronted me. 7

"In my distress I called upon the LORD; to my God I called. From his temple he

heard my voice, and my cry came to his ears.

8 "Then the earth reeled and rocked; the foundations of the heavens trembled

and quaked, because he was angry. 9 Smoke went up from his nostrils, and devouring

fire from his mouth; glowing coals flamed forth from him. 10 He bowed the heavens

and came down; thick darkness was under his feet. 11 He rode on a cherub and flew;

he was seen on the wings of the wind. 12 He made darkness around him his canopy,

thick clouds, a gathering of water. 13 Out of the brightness before him coals of fire

flamed forth. 14 The LORD thundered from heaven, and the Most High uttered his

voice. 15 And he sent out arrows and scattered them; lightning, and routed them. 16

Then the channels of the sea were seen; the foundations of the world were laid bare,

at the rebuke of the LORD, at the blast of the breath of his nostrils.

17 "He sent from on high, he took me; he drew me out of many waters. 18 He res-

cued me from my strong enemy, from those who hated me, for they were too mighty

for me. 19 They confronted me in the day of my calamity, but the LORD was my

support. 20 He brought me out into a broad place; he rescued me, because he de-

lighted in me.

21 "The LORD dealt with me according to my righteousness; according to the

cleanness of my hands he rewarded me. 22 For I have kept the ways of the LORD

and have not wickedly departed from my God. 23 For all his rules were before me,

and from his statutes I did not turn aside. 24 I was blameless before him, and I kept

myself from guilt. 25 And the LORD has rewarded me according to my righteous-

ness, according to my cleanness in his sight…

50 "For this I will praise you, O LORD, among the nations, and sing praises to

your name. 51 Great salvation he brings to his king, and shows steadfast love to his

anointed, to David and his offspring forever."

SERMON Thanksgiving for Deliverance Rev. David Rea

HYMN OF RESPONSE*

Guide Me, O Thou Great Jehovah CWM RHONDDA

Guide me, O Thou great Jehovah, pilgrim through this barren land;

I am weak, but Thou art mighty, hold me with Thy pow'rful hand.

Bread of heaven, Bread of heaven, feed me till I want no more;

Feed me till I want no more.

Open now the crystal fountain, whence the healing stream doth flow;

Let the fire and cloudy pillar lead me all my journey through.

Strong Deliverer, strong Deliverer, be Thou still my strength and shield;

Be Thou still my strength and shield.

When I tread the verge of Jordan, bid my anxious fears subside;

Bear me thro' the swelling current, land me safe on Canaan's side.

Songs and praises, songs and praises, I will ever give to Thee; I will ever give to Thee.

Fairest Lord Jesus CRUSADER’S HYMN

Fairest Lord Jesus, Ruler of all nature,

Son of God and Son of Man!

Thee will I cherish, thee will I honor,

Thou, my soul’s glory, joy, and crown.

Fair are the meadows, fair are the woodlands,

Robed in the blooming garb of spring:

Jesus is fairer, Jesus is purer,

Who makes the woeful heart to sing.

Beautiful Savior! Lord of the nations!

Son of God and Son of Man!

Glory and honor, praise, adoration,

Now and forevermore be thine.

Men's Fall Bible Studies

● Wednesday Mornings - 7am at the church– taught by Rob Hamby– beginning September 12th

The Life of Jacob: In the Bible we meet some very interesting characters who all have at

least one thing in common. They constantly stray from God, go their own way and find

themselves in a great, big, miserable mess unable to rescue themselves. This was definitely

the case for Jacob. He was a liar, deceiver, schemer and scoundrel who found himself far

from God because of his straying. Sounds just like us doesn't it? Through this study we

will see that you are never so bad that you stand outside the reach of God' grace and yet

you are never so good that you stand outside the need of God's grace.

● Thursday Nights- 7pm at the church -taught by Ronnie Rowe, beginning September 6th

Sanctification: Growing in the Christian Life. This study will focus on key passages of Scrip-

ture that deal with the Christian’s growth in Christ. We will consider how this applies to

our fight against temptation and sin and how we are conformed more and more into the

likeness of Christ. Specific application will be made to life in the family, the church, and

the workplace.

● Friday Mornings– 7am at the church– taught by David Rea– beginning September 7th

The Gospel of Mark (part two): Picking up where we left off last spring we will continue our

study of the Gospel of Mark. The oldest and shortest of the Gospels, Mark is an action-

packed account of the ministry of Jesus Christ. With a special concern for God’s grace

toward the Gentiles, Mark demonstrates how the Gospel applies to all kinds of people-

people like you and me. I look forward to seeing you there.
