• The programme is designed to optimise the maximum experience across a wide range of care environments across the health and social care landscape.

• Your course will be divided into separate theory and practice blocks

50% Theory 50% Practice

• 2,300 hours of practice Learning hours must be achieved, of which 300 can be logged through clinical skills simulation.

Placement Opportunities• Primary Health Care: health visitor, school nurse,

community children’s nurses, child and adolescent mental health, schools for children with behavioural problems, learning and physical disability

• Acute Care: children’s wards inc. adolescents and babies, day case units, children’s outpatient departments, assessment units, neonatal intensive care, theatres, emergency departments and high dependency units

While you are in placement you are expected to;

• Have undertaken the preparatory work before you start the placement

• Work 40% of your time under direct or indirect supervision by a mentor• Work the shifts that the rest of the nursing team work i.e. 24 hour, 7 day

if appropriate• Not normally work any more than 75 hours per fortnight (i.e. the

equivalent of 37.5 hours per week).• Attend the hand over meetings at the beginning and end of the shifts• You will develop plans to achieve learning and have opportunity for

formal feedback along the way in preparation for a formal summative assessment towards the end of your placement.
