Practice Review Tool (PRT)
A Resource for Increasing Employer Return on Investment in
PT Continuing Competence
Practice Review Tool - What is it?
• An objective assessment tool for use by PTs to assess their ongoing competence.
• A review of physical therapy practice fundamentals.
• A unique opportunity for PTs to compare their current knowledge, skills and abilities to entry-level physical therapy practice.
• A starting point for creating a plan for continuing competence development.
Practice Review Tool - What is it?
• Consists of scenarios and multiple-choice questions that emphasize clinical application of physical therapy practice knowledge:
– Closed book delivery;
– Approximately 25 scenarios presented;
– 125 questions relating to the scenarios;
– Administered in secure centers;
– $250; tiered or volume pricing available upon request.
• General Practice and Orthopedic versions currently available.
Practice Review Tool - What is it?
• Upon completion, the PT immediately receives:
• A customized Feedback Report;
• A Development Planning Worksheet for planning future professional development activities; and
• A Certificate of Completion to present to any and all applicable licensing boards or other parties the licensee chooses to share with.

• Objective – To provide objective and meaningful assessment
information to the PT
• Application and Relevance – To help create a professional development plan that
addresses the taker’s specific needs
• Format – Performance is shown in an easy-to-interpret graphical
format
– Includes Frequently Asked Questions and their answers
– Provides explanations of Knowledge Areas and Systems

• The PRT Development Planning Worksheet:
• Provides an opportunity for guided self-reflection;
• Helps the PT prioritize a professional development path; and
• Tracks the PT’s progress toward meeting continuing competence goals

• Prometric is the largest secure testing network in the U.S. (300+ locations)
• PRT available 7 days/week in some locations and 6 days/week in most

Practice Review Tool – Value to Employers
• Demonstrates a commitment to supporting and developing the ongoing competence of PT staff.
• Promotes awareness on the part of PT staff of the importance of maintaining their competence.
• Provides better assurance that subsequent continuing education investment is appropriately targeted to meet each PTs’ unique needs.
• Multi-state recognition/acceptance stretches employer professional development investment.
Important Information for Employers
• PRT results are issued only to the PT.
• The PRT is NOT intended to function as a human resources remediation resource for purposes of making personnel determinations.
• Employers should view the PRT as a resource for PT professionals to make informed and self-guided decisions regarding their development.
