Traveling Boston

The intent of this project is to create a physi-cal presence for the design museum within the city. The project must deal with temporal exhibitions in changing locations throughout Boston. The known parameters are: it must be able to move, it must be flexible, it should work as storage and display, its size is limited to a parking spot, and it must generate a dif-ferent urban event wherever it parks.

Traveling Boston

By traveling around Boston the Design Mu-seum Boston gets to reach different commu-nities and a diverse range of users. This cre-ates the greatest amount of exposure and interactivity around the city.


Transformable Exhibits

Design Concept:The general idea is to create movable pieces that can be rearranged to showcase an ex-hibit. This creates an interaction that engages the user to the exhibit. The pieces can form a design train that creates an urban event one they are arranged together (impromptu de-sign city block).

CONCEPT 1 - STAGE WITH PIXEL WALL EXHIBIT

This concept is devided into two parts: an exhibition pixel wall, and a stage. The pixel wall houses the exhi-bition materials inside the boxes. Wehn a user pulls on the boxes to view the material, the wall reacts to pull by means of rails. The stage sets up an approach and path to view the exhibit. This stage creates a sense of place on any site, which invites to perfor-mances.

CONCEPT 2 - SLIDING LAYER CAKE

This concept stacks sliding layers which slide on �x directions north/ south or east/ west. This allows for a transformation of exhibition platforms. each layer has further transformable pieces for storage, exhibit or lighting.

CONCEPT 3 - PUZZLE BOX

This concept is formed by a grided structure and sliding boxes that �t within the structure. Each piece can be used for storage or it could be slided out to form an exhibition pocket. The pieces can be relo-cated on the ground to form steps or seats.
