JUNE 2017 VOLUME 41 Number 6 Unexpected Ministry On May 16, Beckham Mills Baptist Association was given the opportunity for an unexpected ministry. The ministry came in the form of an F-2 and possibly at times an F-3 tornado south of Elk City in the Country Club and Merritt communities. I was reminded of Acts 14:22 strengthening the souls of the disciples, encouraging them to continue in the faith, and saying, Through many tribulations we must enter the kingdom of God.’” NASB I was reminded of the unexpected ministry when I saw BMBA Disaster Relief Blue Cap Jim Coffey and his wife Estelline serving the teams of volunteers that were graciously hosted by Russell Duck and First Baptist Church of Elk City. As I came by for breakfast one morning at six-thirty when Russell Eitenmiller, Perry Bronn, C.H. Long, and Jack White were all cooking for the Disaster Relief teams. This team and church hosted and fed the teams for four days. Mel Umbertus and his team do an amazing job at the church. Donald Ogle- tree spent an entire day at the site with the Beckham Mills Baptist Disaster Relief Trailer serving snacks, water and Gatorade. I was reminded of the unexpected ministry when I saw Michael David helping church member after church member move out of their home that had been destroyed. I was completely humbled by his servanthood. Several First Baptist Church of Elk City students helped Michael and one day Boomer Butler was there assisting. I was reminded of the unexpected ministry when I saw Maurice and Rhonda Wade, Rick and Donna McNeil and Karla Kennemer help- ing Janet Ellis pack her mothers home. I remember them sharing a meal in the living room and the opportunity to lead Janet who was exhausted in prayer. I was reminded of unexpected ministry when Rusty McMullen showed up on Wednesday morning with breakfast to feed the Oklahoma Disaster Relief Team that had already arrived and there had been no electricity in Elk City overnight to purchase groceries. I was reminded as Rusty served during those early hours of the first day in the community that he didn t even live in with Sam Porter. I was reminded of unexpected ministry when Chris Carlisle the pastor of Eastside Baptist Church spent two days assisting me at the Inci- dent Command center and later with a family in the Merritt Community who had lost everything. I honestly don t know what I would have done without Chris Carlisle! I was reminded of unexpected ministry when Gordon Thomas and his son Sam from Durham Baptist Church came and worked for two days clearing debris with their tract hoe. Those two men did more in sixteen hours than one hundred people could do in three days. I was reminded of unexpected ministry as I had some men follow me to a site to work and a man covered in dirt and sweat stepped in front of my vehicle moving a piece of iron. That man was from Main Street Baptist Church and it was Steve Stout. Main Street was work- ing side by side with Eastside Baptist Church. I was reminded of unexpected ministry when I was driving back to incident command and the Prairie View Baptist Church van was on the side of the road and assisting people. I was reminded of unexpected ministry each time I saw the OneChurch pastor Brannon Duncan getting supplies at the Incident Com- mand Center at the Country Club. I was reminded of the unexpected ministry when three churches from Southwest Baptist Association came and worked for days assisting families—FBC Duke, Friendship Baptist Church and Martha Road Baptist Church. I was reminded of unexpected ministry when Arlene brought me a check from Texola Baptist Church for an extremely large amount for the Elk City tornado disaster relief fund. I didnt tell Arlene, but I had to go to my office and weep. I was reminded of unexpected ministry when Southwest Baptist Association gave our association $5,000.00 to help with disaster relief and the tornado. I was reminded of unexpected ministry when Dr. Anthony Jordan from the Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma came to Elk City on Wednesday morning the day after the tornado and met with every pastor from Elk City. Dr. Jordan gave ministry and assistance to fami- lies on behalf of the BGCO. Thats another reason we in Beckham Mills give to the Cooperative Program!!!! I was reminded of unexpected ministry when Sam Porter was calling and texting me at 7:20 p.m. ten minutes after the tornado hit Elk City asking how Oklahoma Baptist Disaster Relief could help? I honestly didnt know at the time how bad we needed help! Ill always be grateful for his love and support! Everyone has been so generous! Donations have poured in to our community! All our churches in Beckham Mills have been so support- ive. As I sat down on Saturday and began to share the gospel with a man it reminded me of Acts 14:27 When they had arrived and gath- ered the church together, they began to report all things that God had done with them and how He had opened a door of faith to the Gen- tiles.NASB I guess May 16 was the beginning of unexpected ministry. BAPTIST COLLEGIATE MINISTRY NEWS

Dear Association, Summer is here. Junior Camp is wrapping up and June and July will fly by, I’m sure. I want to put the word out that we still have a few spots open for Collegiate Week @ Glorieta. This year the camp will be held August 5-9, this is a Saturday – Wednesday. The cost is $255. This is open to anyone who has just graduated high school through college age. This is a great time for students to connect with other college students from Oklahoma and around the country. For many of y’all that have attended collegiate week in the past, you probably have great memories of your time at Glorieta. Well I have sad news for you, this is the last year that we will be going to Glorieta. So if you want a student to experience Glorieta, encourage them to get a hold of me. You can reach me through the associational office 580-928-2585. I look forward to all that God has planned for this summer.

God Bless Benny Lockler

leaders.

The conference will offer students large-group sessions and breakout sessions geared toward helping them recognize and

put into practice God’s call on their lives.

We want to join you in prayer!

It has been slow lately due to warmer weather. Drivers are showering and on the go. Covering miles while they have daylight. Some are stopping for a short service then going. You have to be that shining light for them to see. Sometimes it seems no one is listening. We just do the service and watch people as they go by or as they are waiting for a shower. They listen as they do their daily job. You never know when just a few words have a great meaning to someone. Till next time, keep praying for the truck stop ministry. Randy & Denise saying Happy Trails till next time
