As part of a Daughter of the King’s “service” during Diocesan Council, a prayer chapel chair from a Daughters of the King chapter is selected from the convocation of churches within geographical proximity to set up the Diocesan Council Prayer Chapel. The prayer chapel is deemed Sacred

Space for all to enter at any time while Diocese Council is in session to bring their needs before God. Praying at Council is our Order’s “gift of service” to our Bishops, Priests, church delegates, and council attendees

The prayer chapel chair is responsible to set up the Diocese Prayer Chapel, and schedule Daughters of the King from churches within her convocation to pray in the chapel while council is in session. This ensures that our Order is in continual prayer for the delegates, alternates, attendees and lifting us all business and prayer requests brought up during council.

On the opening morning of Diocese council, the Diocese President from The Order of the Daughters of the King®, the Prayer Chair for the Diocese, or ECW President, should schedule a “Call to Prayer” to open the chapel prior to the first order of business. A short liturgy of call and response, or readings and prayers are for this. All are welcome to attend the Call to Prayer.

Each morning of Council, the prayer chair should ensure small stacks of prayer requests are left on each table in the council hall. If your council does not do this, ensure prayer request slips are readily available at your Diocese Daughters of the King booth and inside the chapel throughout council.

When it is your turn to pray in the Diocese Council prayer chapel each Daughter, will pray through the list of delegates, alternates, and attendees, as well as other prayers you choose from the Book of Common Prayer, Bible or other source and pray through all the prayer request slips. All prayer requests once prayed over are then placed on the Altar.

A Daughter should be in the chapel the entire time council is in session. 20 or 30-minute rotating shifts works best. At the end of council, the prayer chair takes all the prayers requests off the chapel altar and place them in the offering basket at her home church where they are prayed over one last time. Prayer requests must be destroyed by burning or shredding.

Diocese Council Chapel checklist

Council traditionally meets Thursday- Sunday. The Council prayer chair should set up the chapel Wednesday.

Nicely lettered sign on the door of the chapel saying “Diocese Council Prayer Chapel” underneath written hosted by The Order of the Daughters of the King®

Episcopal Church banner, host church banner, or DOK chapter banner or American Flag if no banner is available.

2 folders or notebooks that contain, the list of delegates, and alternates attending council. (The Episcopal Diocese office has this. The complete list is not compiled until a few days before Council begins.)

2 -3 tables for supplies, and to set up altar from the venue. 10-30 chairs, provided by venue

Altar Items 2- 4 Medium or Large flameless electric candles Lidded box to hold prayer requests Cross, or other religious picture. Table cloth, or other material to use as an altar cloth over the table. Flowers, or plants (real or silk) Christian Themed banner, American Flag, wall hanging on a pole (optional)

Room Set upSet up the supply table to one side, so people can come in the door and get what they need first, and then sit down and pray so they do not disturb anyone already in the chapel.

Prayer request slips with the DOK logo. Prayers for the Church

For the ChurchGracious Father, we pray for thy holy catholic Church. Fill it with all truth, in all truth with all peace. Where it is corrupt, purify it; where it is in error, direct it; where in any thing it is amiss, reform it. Where it is right, strengthen it; where it is in want, provide for it; where it is divided, reunite it; for the sake of Jesus Christ thy Son our Savior. Amen.

For our Country

Almighty God, who hast given us this good land for our heritage: We humbly beseech thee that we may always prove ourselves a people mindful of thy favor and glad to do thy will. Bless our land with honorable industry, sound learning, and pure manners. Save us from violence, discord, and confusion; from pride and arrogance, and from every evil way. Defend our liberties, and fashion into one united people the multitudes brought hither out of many kindreds and tongues. Endue with the spirit of wisdom those to whom in thy Name we entrust the authority of government, that there may be justice and peace at home, and that, through obedience to thy law, we may show forth thy praise among the nations of the earth. Grant to the President of the United States, the Governor of this State (or Commonwealth), and to all in authority, wisdom and strength to know and to do thy will. Fill them with the love of truth and righteousness, and make them ever mindful of their calling to serve this people in thy fear; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Spirit, one God, world without end. Amen

For Guidance

O God, by whom the meek are guided in judgment, and light riseth up in darkness for the godly: Grant us, in all our doubts and uncertainties, the grace to ask what thou wouldest have us to do, that the Spirit of wisdom may save us from all false choices, and that in thy light we may see light, and in thy straight path may not stumble; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

For Quiet Confidence

O God of peace, who hast taught us that in returning and rest we shall be saved, in quietness and in confidence shall be our strength: By the might of thy Spirit lift us, we pray thee, to thy presence, where we may be still and know that thou art God; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

For Protection

Assist us mercifully, O Lord, in these our supplications and prayers, and dispose the way of thy servants towards the attainment of everlasting salvation; that, among all the changes and chances of this mortal life, they may ever be defended by thy gracious and ready help; through Jesus Christ our Lord.
