What can be freer than a gift? Today we shall receive sustaining, strengthening, sanctifying, satisfying grace…If we have but little grace the fault must lie in ourselves…We may ask for as much and we will never fear a refusal…The Lord may not give gold, but He will give grace: He may not give gain, but He will give grace…we may be called to labor and to suffer, but with the call there will come all the grace required.” Charles Spurgeon, “March 19” Chequebook of the Bank of Faith A Pattern for God’s Mission: V2: The command: “entrust”: give the gospel so fully to a few that they go and do likewise. “I think one of the first things I would do would be to get a small group of eight or ten or twelve people around me that would meet a few hours a week and pay the price! It would cost them something in time and effort. I would share with them everything I have, over a period of years. Then I would actually have twelve ministers among the laypeople who in turn could take eight or ten or twelve more and teach them…Christ, I think, set the pattern.” Billy Graham, when asked “If you were a pastor of a large church in a principal city, what would be your plan of action?” Perspective for God’s Mission: V3: The command: “share in suffering as a good soldier”: embrace discomfort and difficulty for the sake of mission. Have a solider mindset. V4-6: Are the proverbial pictures to take into your life and ministry. “Think over what I say” (v7) commends meditating on these images over a long period of time. “A handful of soldiers is always better than a mouthful of arguments.” George C. Lichter “We expect our career missionaries to abandon their families and the comforts of home to engage lost people groups around the world, yet somehow fail to see that we as laity are called to the same level of commitment to the unreached. Whether at home or abroad, we must be willing to make the necessary sacrifices and forgo certain comforts and pleasures for the sake of reaching those who do not know Christ. This…must become our very lives, no matter how difficult, complicated or messy it may be.” John Drummond

Power for God’s Mission:

V1: The command: “be strengthened by the grace that is in Christ Jesus”: Experiencing the grace of God is power for the mission of God.

“Grace is what we need just now, and it is to be had freely. What can be freer than a gift? A Pattern for God’s Mission:

V2: The command: “entrust”: give the gospel so fully to a few that they go and do likewise.
