Prayer EssentialsRead & Study II Chronicles 1-7
Knowing what Pleases the One True and Living God
February 2010 VOL. # 1 ISSUE #2
Knowing that the LORD has heard your prayer and is
answering is of the utmost awesomeness!! This is exactly
what occurred when Solomon presented his prayer before
the One True and Living God. From the time that Solomon
became king of Israel, he was blessed with “prayer
essentials” that caused his prayers to be heard.
Solomon, King David’s son became king at a very tender age
around 967 B.C.E. with a vast kingdom spreading from the
Euphrates River in the north to Egypt in the south. Solomon
was the king of the fore mentioned vast territory and its
populace, namely the Children of Israel
As time goes on, the temple has been built; Solomon and the
people worship the LORD with praise, thanks giving, and
offerings. Afterwards, Solomon made his supplications
known unto the LORD that covered an array of all people.
People who would choose to petition the LORD in the
temple, turned toward the temple, or thought on the
temple. Solomon’s crowning moment was his
substantively humble prayer request. After much
praise & worship for the new temple, Solomon made his
request known unto the LORD (I Chronicles 1:10)
Bless the LORD at all times & Remain Humble
Solomon was David’s second son by Bathsheba, and the first
after their legal marriage (II Samuel 12). He was probably born
about 1035 B.C. (1 Chronicles 22:5; 29:1). He succeeded his
father on the throne in early manhood, probably about sixteen
or eighteen years of age. Nathan, to whom his education was
entrusted, called him Jedidiah, i.e., “beloved of the Lord” (2
Samuel 12:24, 25). His father chose him as his successor,
passing over the claims of his elder sons: “Assuredly Solomon
my son shall reign after me.” His history is recorded in 1 Kings
1:11 and II Chronicles 9. During his reign Palestine enjoyed great
commercial prosperity. Extensive traffic was carried on by
land with Tyre and Egypt and Arabia, and by sea with Spain and
India and the coasts of Africa, by which Solomon accumulated
vast stores of wealth and of the produce of all nations
(1 Kings 9:26-28; 10:11, 12; 2 Chronicles. 8:17, 18; 9:21).
Solomon Cont’d
In that night did God appear unto Solomon, and said unto
him, Ask what I shall give thee. And Solomon said unto God, Thou hast
shewed great mercy unto David my father, and hast made me to reign in
his stead. Now, O LORD God, let thy promise unto David my father be
established: for thou hast made me king over a people like the dust
of the earth in multitude. Give me now wisdom and
knowledge that I may go out and come in before this people:
for who can judge this thy people that is so great?
And God said to Solomon, because this was in thine heart, and
thou hast not asked riches, wealth, or honour, nor the life of thine
enemies, neither yet hast asked long life; but hast asked wisdom
and knowledge for thyself, that thou mayest judge my people, over
whom I have made thee king: Wisdom and knowledge is granted
unto thee; and I will give thee riches, and wealth, and honour,
such as none of the kings have had that have been before
thee, neither shall there any after thee have the like.
(II Chronicles 1:7-12) KJV
King Solomon made a substantive an eloquent prayer asking the
LORD to hear the prayers of His people. “Have respect therefore
to the prayer of thy servant, and to his supplication, O LORD
my God, to hearken unto the cry and the prayer which thy
servant prayeth before thee.” (II Chronicles 6:19) KJV

If my people, which are called by my
Name, would humble themselves and
pray, and seek my face, and turn from
their wicked ways; then will I hear from
heaven and will forgive their sin, and
heal their land. (II Chronicles 7:14) KJV
Solomon’s SupplicationsSolomon completed a wondrous time of worship with singing, uttering praises unto the LORD and with generous offerings. Solomon was very rich and had acquired many riches for the nation of Israel. The choicest animal sacrifices were offered unto the LORD. Later in the evening, when all was quiet the LORD God visited Solomon.
And the LORD appeared to Solomon by night, and said unto him, I have heard thy prayer, and have chosen this place to myself for a house of sacrifice. If I shut up heaven that there be no rain, or if I command the locusts to devour the land, or if I send pestilence among my people;
If my people, which are called by my Name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. Now mine eyes shall be open, and mine ears attent unto the prayer that is made in this place. For now have I chosen and sanctified this house that my Name may be there for ever: and mine eyes and mine heart shall be there perpetually. (II Chronicles 7:12-16) KJV
Again, it is of the utmost awesomeness to know that your prayers have been heard by the LORD. First of all, Solomon did not come empty handed. Solomon was about to make several unselfish requests unto the LORD. These requests would benefit the LORD’s people, whom He loved. Solomon desired for the people to have a way back to the LORD when they transgressed. His prayer covered the children of Israel, also strangers who sojourned in the land because they had heard about the awesomeness par ‘excellence of the LORD and desired to live in the land of Israel.
Solomon did not pray selfishly, but with sincerity of heart unto the LORD his God. Solomon gave unto the LORD, let his request be made known and waited. He and all the people saw the power of the LORD as He accepted their offering and how the GLORY of the LORD was so great, that the kohanim/priest could not enter the temple (see II Chronicles 7:1-2).
